OS X :: Preferred Email Service For Mac Users?
Mar 4, 2009I was wondering if there was a de facto e-mail service that Mac users prefer (i.e. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.). Or do people have their own domains?

View 18 RepliesI have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver rpcsvchost[32619]: sandbox_init: com.apple.msrpc.netlogon.sb succeeded
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver sandboxd[32620] ([32619]): rpcsvchost(32619) deny file-read-metadata /Library/Managed Preferences
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver sandboxd[32620] ([32619]): rpcsvchost(32619) deny file-read-metadata /private/var/root
Feb 20 09:24:39: --- last message repeated 3 times ---
[Log] .....
Why only the DNS name doesn't work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently I purchased Mac Pro with installed Lion OX. I transfered all my files from the old Mac Pro to the new one. Everything seems to be fine except one thing. On my old system I had diferent User Name and 3 email accounts under that user. Now if I want to check new emails on this accounts I have to switch users.
Is there any way that I can have all the emails under one user?

I have searched everywhere for this with no luck. I am new to iWeb. I just created a site in iWeb and a blog. Currently my blog has a RSS subscription button that iWeb put in.
But how do I allow users to subscribe to my blog via email? How do I put a tab/button, etc. on the blog so that users can be notified of new blog entries via email?
i have linked up my AD environment to my Lion server. I have all my users populated perfectly and i have added a few email address values for users. When i try and login via webmail to my account it will not login. When i look in the logs it shows that its trying to authenticate to the local server and not the AD server for the user. how i can fix this so that it uses my AD credentials and such for email also?

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8). Â
When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.Â
As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).Â
Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

I am currently am MBA student and must create projects using power point/ keynote, very often. Many of the power points/ keynotes created by students are informative but lack the ability to hold an audience’s attention (boring). Since I have this wonderful Macbook pro, I would like to create a dynamic keynote presentation which would include clips of audio and video files (I already know about converting keynote to power point). The only problem is, the videos I want to use in the keynote presentation are not able to be manipulated in iMovie (due to their format), and if they where able to be manipulated in iMovie, I’m not sure that PC users would be able to properly view them.
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?  If this is possible, can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files (including embedded audio) so that it can be viewed by both Lion and PC users? Preferably one that does not need access to the internet in order to convert the files ( I’m on the go allot and use an air card for internet access), but I will take it if this is the best option. If the app store does not have this type of application, is there a place that I can download a safe one?Â

In my house, there are several available WiFi networks, including my airport. I tried joining one of the others once when mine was down, and now my computer regularly attempts to join that one when ever it wakes up. Can I make it forget to join that network, or make mine its first preference?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having lots of problems with my network lately I had to reset it. But since then my Macbook will not remember it as a preferred network. (At least I think thats what the problem is.) When I open the lid my computer wakes up and then I get the popup message (look at picture 1) then I have to click on my network which is called linda. Then my the space to write my password is already filled (see picture 2), I have to click JOIN and only then I can go online. But I've had to do these steps at least 10 times a day for the past month and now im sick of it!
View 4 Replies View Relatedyou would be kind enough to perform the following test and tell me what result you get (it should take five minutes)?
1) login to MyInfo page: [URL]
2) select "Contact Prefs" and set "Preferred Language" to a language different from your country default language
3) Logout (very important)
4) starts iTunes, go in the iTunes Store and connect to view your account (click on your AppleID in the top right corner)
5) select "Edit Payment Information"
6) change nothing, just press Done twice to go back to the iTunes Store
7) login to MyInfo page again:[URL]
8) check if Contact Prefs->Preferred Language was set to your country default
9) come back to this thread and report the result (with your country)
In my case (from Switzerland iTunes Store) my Preferred Language is reset to German each time and it is quite annoying. I've tried to report this to the iTunes Support, but their answer was something like: "we need to test your account." And after having done that:we're happy to tell you that your preferred language is now set to English." Not very useful as you can see.

I have a macbook air, but this seems to apply to any mac's with airport. I connect once to our corporate wireless network, I type in the password and it connects. On occasions, when I start up the computer, it doesn't connect and a window pops up with my network listed but it says "none of your preferred networks are available". When I first connect I do check off remember this network. So why isn't it remembering it?
When I go into system preference and click on network, select airport and click on advanced, that network does appear under the preferred networks. Does anyone know why its not letting me automatically connect the next time? Sometimes its ok, sometimes it doesn't even know I connected to this network before.
All of our Macs when first started begin Airport scanning. They log in to an unsecured network from a neighbors home instead of the network we have set as preferred. We then must select manually from the list of available networks which is quite a lot in our community. Why is this and what can we do to stop this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you go into System Preferences>Appearance>Font Smoothing Style, You'll see a drop down menu with different choices. I think the best looking font smoothing type is "Standard - best for CRT". I've tried all the other styles and they don't look good to me. I think the other styles look too sharp, too bold and I don't like colored pixels around the edge of my text.
By the way, in Snow Leopard, there's only 2 options now. It's just a checkbox that says: [ ] LCD Font Smoothing. When checked, it acts like "Medium - best for flat panel" and when unchecked it acts like "Standard - best for CRT". What is your favorite font smoothing style? For changes to take effect, you have to quit and relaunch your apps to see the difference.
This is going to be a series of threads/polls with the main objective of finding out what applications the members of MacRumors use. These threads/polls are not meant for discussion on whether or not one application is better than another or to ask any questions about these particular applications. It's only purpose is to discuss what application you use (or don't use) as it pertains to the topic. The goal is to collect these series of threads in the end and compile a list of all the polls so that members can view what the members of MacRumors use most often. The applications listed in the poll are by no means definitive and/or complete. If you use another application, vote Other and post the name so others can look into it. Even if you don't use any of the applications listed, you can simply click None. I've tried to list as many applications as I could find for the particular topic. Some are paid, some are free. Some cover all versions of OS X, others only a few versions.
This particular thread focuses on Audio Players for OS X. While iTunes is probably used by many due to the iPod and iPhone, it certainly isn't the only application out there to listen to music. So what audio player do you use for your music?

Under previous OSs (Snow Leopard and earlier that I am familiar with) the Software Update pane let you choose a preferred update and there was a menu item to ignore it, so it wouldn't appear again. I don't see anything similar in the new App Store update system under Mavericks. I am using an older printer driver - OEM, not the generic Apple ones - and definitely don't want to lose it to an update of those infamous generic and mostly useless Apple printer drivers, but I am afraid I might get distracted and update it inadvertently or with others.

I was reading a thread about Snow Leopard bootup times, and one of the posters said that what with the fast wake up of Macs, shutting down is useless unless an update requires it or you use bootcamp. {URL]. So, my question to you is, do you sleep your computer or shut it down when you finish using it? I've only had mine for a week and personally I shut mine down, but maybe thats a hangover from the Windows part of my life.
