View 3 RepliesI just upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I did this, it did something to the fonts displayed in Safari 5.1.7. When I go to a webpage (like someone's blog) the entire body of text is in a cursive font. I've tried emptying the cache, changing the fonts in the Preferences/Appearances tab in Safari, deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist, and also deleting duplicate fonts in my Font Book.

Just bought the 24 LED Cinema Display to use with my new uMBP. The display looks great, but sometimes it's pretty tough to read things on it because the resolution is so high. Is there any way to change the font size for things like Safari, Entourage, Word, etc. JUST on the LED and not on the MBP as well?

This is what it looks like when I open it up.
just purchased an NEC Spectraview LCD2690WUxi2 display (1920x1600 26" LCD SIPS panel), and fonts are aliasing strangely, almost as if they are not falling "on the pixel" in the OS. It's not a "big" problem but is clearly noticeable in my transition from my 23" cinema display. This is particularly evident with small fonts or italics. I'm really hoping that there are settings either in OSX or on the display that can fix this issue. Images look absolutely fantastic BTWtack sharp, no banding, phenomenal color. In that respect this blows my old 23" Apple display completely out of the water. So it's likely something in the OS, no
View 7 Replies View RelatedMany are having issues with font smoothing not working correctly on external displays with SL 10.6.
I researched this issue and found this blog posting:
URL
the blog itself discusses the issue, and the fix is found in the comments.
Basically, for now the fix is to open Terminal App and enter:
"defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2″
without the quotes, and hit return.
a log out or restart might be required.
this fix seems to stick even after re-boots and shut-downs.
Fonts on screen are much smaller than printed versions. Can't hardly see onscreen & I'm sending resumes!!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have an mac pro intel 2x2.66 OS: 10.4.11
my screen died so i had to get the 27 led and have the atlona converter between the display and mac ( which works fine) I logged into my main user and then into user2 my main user's display resolution is set to 2560 and user2 was set to 1920 i opened preferences and switched resolution in user2 to 2560 the screen flashed a bit and logged me out. then it would not log back in (it actually logged me out of the main user too)
what happens is that it starts to log in, there were a few finder windows open so, it starts to open those. but it doesn't show any icons or the text with available disk space... there's a beach ball for 30 seconds or so then it just logs back out.
it's totally user specific because i can log in and use my main user fine. i can even log in to another user account that i never really used.
I tried logging in in safe mode and get the same results. I can log in in with terminal with that user and see it's files, etc... I even tried using command line to move some prefs out out (i put them back after it didn't work).
I imagine some file related to the finder is corrupted or something? one of the prefs i tried to move was com.apple.finder.plist as well as bunch of others like windowserver desktop displays, etc...
When I'm logged in as root I notice the fast user switching menu doesn't display the short or full name, just a blank space. In my regular account, it does. Is this normal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like a Terminal or AppleScript command to determine if a logged in user is using a virtual display.
The scenario is: user1 is in front of the local computer using user1 account (owns /dev/console); user2 is using using a virtual display for the local computer via ScreenSharing on a remote computer.
I know `stat -f%Su /dev/console` will give me who is in front of the local computer, but I need another command to determine if user2 is using a virtual display on the same local computer.
if the new MacBook pro ram user upgradable to 16gb or it has to be done at the factory?

Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated. The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page. I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?
Both claim to use Times 16, but there's a definite difference. How do I make them the same?

On windows you just right click the desktop > appearance and bang. How can I do it on the mac? Oh and I don't want to increase the font of safari or finder, i already know how to do that, what I'm looking for is a way to make all fonts bigger (including menus)... just like you do on windows, make all fonts 1.2 times bigger.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tried very hard to find the answer to my transferring question, but nowhere do I find my answer nor does Apple offer free help or even help by email.
So here is my issue. I want to transfer all my personal data from my HOME user account on my MacBook to a NEW user account on the SAME MacBook. The reason is that my Microsoft Office has a certain issue that is only solvable by starting up in a new user. So now I want to transfer all the personality, data, files, and all that from my home user to the new user on the same computer. After that, I want to delete the old Home user and make the new user the default home user account.
My screen appears discolored and distorted on one user and fine on another user.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got a new MacBook Pro, wanted to transfer my data from the old (2010) MBP. I've done this dozens of times before, but always manually, via Finder copies from external hard disks, etc. This time I decided to try the Official Method, using Migration Assistant. After numerous tries, I couldn't get Migration Assistant to work between the two MacBook Pros (both running 10.9.3), even with Apple's assistance. So I decided to try it with a MacBook running 10.6.8. It worked (though poorly; Migration Assistance needs some serious repair), which was useful (now I know that Migration Assistant works, and it's not a problem with the cabling I was using, but something in the old MBP). But now I have two user accounts on my new MacBook Pro, which I don't want, plus the added account has now been made the primary account, with (some) data from the previously primary account moved to it.
So I want to delete the new, added, now primary user and return the MBP to its former, pristine state. So I have to go through all the data (fortunately there isn't much; both the new MBP and the MacBook were only recently set up) that's been moved from the original account to the added account, move it back to the original account, then delete the added account (if I can). This was somewhat complicated by the fact that the ~/Library folder is now invisible by default, but I figured that out. However, what I'm wondering now is, when the second, added account was made the primary account, did it assume all attributes of the former primary account, including its number? I know that user accounts in Mac OS have numbers, like 501, 502, etc.
How can I see the numbers of these two accounts? And if the added account is now number 501, when I delete it, how I can I restore the number 501 to the original account? Or perhaps I should just return the new MBP to its factory state, and start over? But I can't, since it didn't come with any Install DVDs (nor indeed, with an optical drive). (I've been out of touch with the Mac world for several years due to illness, am only now learning about the changes since 10.6, which I'd been using until less than a week ago.) I can wipe the MacBook Pro and reinstall 10.9.3, but that might lose some information specific to this computer that came with it.
I lost the install disk for my computer (Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger), and need to change my password (I forgot it ). I can only access single user mode. Is there any way that I can create an Administrator-Status user in Single User Mode? (NOTE: The "root" user isn't really an option since I enabled it a while ago and it has the same password as my current user, which I forgot...).

When I access the user/groups window I can unlock the window to allow for changes. In order to delete a standard user you need to highlight the user you wish to delete and then click the minus sign in the bottom right hand corner. But, I cannot highlight the user I want to delete.
