I have a MacBook that has my niece's and cousin's user accounts and I am trying to delete it. I am the Admin on the laptop and I know how to delete a user account, but when I go to System Preferences > (There is no "Account" icon to click on)...does anyone know another way to access the Account window so I can delete their accounts?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got a new MacBook Pro, wanted to transfer my data from the old (2010) MBP. I've done this dozens of times before, but always manually, via Finder copies from external hard disks, etc. This time I decided to try the Official Method, using Migration Assistant. After numerous tries, I couldn't get Migration Assistant to work between the two MacBook Pros (both running 10.9.3), even with Apple's assistance. So I decided to try it with a MacBook running 10.6.8. It worked (though poorly; Migration Assistance needs some serious repair), which was useful (now I know that Migration Assistant works, and it's not a problem with the cabling I was using, but something in the old MBP). But now I have two user accounts on my new MacBook Pro, which I don't want, plus the added account has now been made the primary account, with (some) data from the previously primary account moved to it.
So I want to delete the new, added, now primary user and return the MBP to its former, pristine state. So I have to go through all the data (fortunately there isn't much; both the new MBP and the MacBook were only recently set up) that's been moved from the original account to the added account, move it back to the original account, then delete the added account (if I can). This was somewhat complicated by the fact that the ~/Library folder is now invisible by default, but I figured that out. However, what I'm wondering now is, when the second, added account was made the primary account, did it assume all attributes of the former primary account, including its number? I know that user accounts in Mac OS have numbers, like 501, 502, etc.
How can I see the numbers of these two accounts? And if the added account is now number 501, when I delete it, how I can I restore the number 501 to the original account? Or perhaps I should just return the new MBP to its factory state, and start over? But I can't, since it didn't come with any Install DVDs (nor indeed, with an optical drive). (I've been out of touch with the Mac world for several years due to illness, am only now learning about the changes since 10.6, which I'd been using until less than a week ago.) I can wipe the MacBook Pro and reinstall 10.9.3, but that might lose some information specific to this computer that came with it.
I purchased App for MacBook. It is alternative to lock screen.
I set password etc followed instructions (no need of lecture me) and it has locked me out of my MacBook and the password I set up does not work...
Im just wondering if there is a way to delete this App without having to log in as the only other account on my MacBook is Guest. I can't use my Mac at all with this app as it will not allow me to enter my account
When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was working on a iMac running Snow Leopard, trying to change the home folder of the previous owner, call her Kathy, to the new owner, Barb, because Barb needs access to all of Kathy's folders, email, etc.
Right now all I have in Users is Admin. Barb's account is appearing in Groups, not Users. And I'm not sure if all of Kathy's data is in Barb's account.
How do I get Barb's account back into Users?

At one point I added a new account to my print sharing. I later turned printer sharing off for that account. But here's what's strange: If I go into Sharing > Printer Sharing, and click the "+" to add a user, that account still shows up as eligible to add. However - that user account does NOT show up anywhere under "Users & Groups" in the general Systems Preferences pane. So, essentially, I have a User Account that can share resources, but I can't remove it. How to remove a user account from sharing eligibility when it's NOT showing up in "Users & Groups"?
Ive a weird problem with the trackpad of my brand new 13" MacBook:
there are three user accounts on it, lets say "Admin", "User-1" and "User-2". While the multitouch option is working fine for the "Admin" and "User-1" accounts, it does not work in the "User-2" account, no matter which settings I try in the trackpad system preferences panel.
Im pretty sure that this has something to do with the fact that the "User-2" account is the only one that was migrated (using the migration assistant) from my old G4 iBook. I reckon that this caused some incompatible system preferences to be installed somewhere in the depths of the "system" or "user/library" folders.
I just got the new MBA, and I already set up an account and then went home and used the Migration Assistant. When doing so, it created a second user account, so all the information I created on the first one over the past few days, it separate from the information I needed transferred over from my time machine? How do I go about merging these two accounts, so I have all my files on one?

I never use "User Accounts" on my MacBook. So I don't know much about them.
If I delete one User Account, will it delete that user's libraries, such as their music, movies, documents, etc?
Also, will it delete the programs that were installed under that user's account, but are accessible by all users?
I was just doing a superduper backup which failed halfway through because i didnt realise my wd passport drive that was plugged in was auto backing stuff up and there must have been a conflict. Now, I dont know what to do. Email accounts.gone. Any registered apps, still there but reg details gone, any and all system preferences (like trackpad setup just came to mind) gone. Dock and all the items in it and crap I made to ,make it look fancy. gone. Stuff that loads at the stuff...gone.
I know this must have to do with my user directory but wtf? I know my timemachine backup is fine as i did one before all the problems, but is my superduperbackup screwed? I cant stress how screwed I am, I got reports due right before xmas and im like at square 1 now.
This is my first post as the soon to be proud owner of a 2010 13" MBP. I'm looking to copy all tunes/photos/settings from my 2006 mini and of course I've got questions:
1- Anyone do a new setup via wireless? I'm going to use a Linksys wireless N and was curious on a time estimate (I know its gonna be slow...).
2- The mini has all settings under my wife's user account...if I just transfer everything as is then I'll end up with my new MBP info being under her name as well. How can I get the files and settings that are under her name to show up under mine on the new MBP?
I'm the only person who uses my Mac, and wanted to know if I could completely get rid of user accounts. I have no password set, so it's really just a waste of time to have to press "OK" everytime I need to authorize anything.
Is there anyway I could eliminate ever having to authorize anything on Leopard or remove the need for a user account?
Is it possible to create a set of users accounts on one Mac and 'copy' them to another without having to do a full migration? I don't mean copying and pasting but using an application to clone them and place them on a target machine, if you know what I mean?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried very hard to find the answer to my transferring question, but nowhere do I find my answer nor does Apple offer free help or even help by email.
So here is my issue. I want to transfer all my personal data from my HOME user account on my MacBook to a NEW user account on the SAME MacBook. The reason is that my Microsoft Office has a certain issue that is only solvable by starting up in a new user. So now I want to transfer all the personality, data, files, and all that from my home user to the new user on the same computer. After that, I want to delete the old Home user and make the new user the default home user account.
I want to be able to login to two user accounts at the same time, so essentially using two screens, one for reach account. It is so I can access the same game online as two diferent users at the same time. Is this possible?

How do i set this up ?
Right now, it is not letting me access files from 1 user account to the other ??
i added a bunch of fonts and brushes to photoshop on a second account, not the admin account, and i figured id be able to use them on the admin account too, but they are not there. is there a way to somehow transfer the brushes and fonts over to the admin account? i dont have all the files for the brushes and fonts no more, and dont feel like trying to find them all again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had a MB for about 1 year now, and got a new 27inch IMac a few weeks back to go with it. When setting it up, it asked if I wanted to migrate my stuff to the new computer, and like a fool, I didn't. Then laster, I used the migration wizard thing, and it said to pick a different name for my new user, since then we was already taken (brian Folkers). So now I have a Brianfolkers and a Brianfolkers2, with no way to make the one with all my applications from my mac (brianfolkers2) the admin, so I can get rid of the extra.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs an administrator (without FileVault protection) on Snow Leopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrator I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this? If not, as an administrator, why can't I see what's on other user is doing? Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?
My wife and I just got a new Mac and are looking to each have their own login for mail, web/bookmarks, etc. but we want to have our media shared so that both users can login and see the same iTunes Library.
Additionally I want to make sure if say one person buys something from iTunes that the other would automatically be able to see it in their library (and wouldn't have to manually add the files/folders).
Lastly, we both use Lightroom and Photoshop and I need to make sure that we can access each other's files in a single location and that we won't get locked out.
what is the best/easiest way to have the itunes music accessible from another use account on one laptop?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn sunday my dad and I bought the brand new 24" iMac, it is a great machine. However today when I went to login, all of the user accounts had disappeared and was replaced with "other...". When you click on it, it will ask you to type in your username and password but no matter what you type it will never let me on. I heard you can do this using terminal a while back, by hiding user accounts. However nobody here has done this, and as everybody else's account does not work it, so it raises some suspicions. My mom immediately thought we had been hacked, which I refuse to believe but it still is possible. We were using the beta of Safari and my sister had been using google images to find wallpapers. I downloaded Quicksilver, Adium, and Amua. That is it. We booted into single user mode and all accounts are there.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have my MBP (running SL) with two user accounts, mine and my fiance's. I watch movies on my ACD and would like to be able to just pick up my remote, open front row and select any movie, regardless of which account is actually signed in at the time.
Can I do this?
To be clear, we have separate accounts and separate iTunes libraries within our respective accounts, each containing some movies.
I've read several threads that say "turn on sharing in iTunes" so I did that, but it isn't working. I can see the content in iTunes itself, but nothing is showing up in Front Row. Does anyone know A) if this is possible and B) how to do it?
I am trying to share photos between user accounts through iPhoto. The problem is that when my photos are brought up on my girlfriends account they are at a very low resolution to what the file actually is. It's like taking a DSLR photo and making it camera phone quality. How can I improve this? can it be done or does iphoto lower the resolution to get a fast transfer time?
