View 4 RepliesI've had my 13inch MBP for almost 3 months now. I love it. However within the past month and a half the hard drive on when I press the button for the laptop to turn on makes a horrible sound. A mechanical sound of the hard drive..turning on or starting up or something. It's like, kinda embarrassing to turn it on in public cause it sounds like a disabled electronic robot baby yelling for help. When I first got my MBP when it turned on it did not make a noise at all. at all. but now all of a sudden it does? And let me tell you, when I had my original white macbook from 2006-early 2009 it began making the same noise in like mid-07. Therefore I know I'm not the only one to have ever heard this noise before.
View 11 Replies View RelatedCirca early January 2004 12" iBook, 800mhz running 10.4.?? (my daughter uses it - i think i upgraded it last month when i put iWork on it). She's been having issues with it turning on - can take awhile. But once it's on, it runs and runs (gee the battery is better than my MBP). She just went to turn it on, and there was this NOISE. Not a normal "problem chime" - i've heard those before, unless they don't chime like they did in the old days, it wasn't that. It then turned on, made the normal power up chime and she is now moving some files she wants to save to the Time Capsule Disk. It could have been another noise that got stretched out. She says sometimes if she plugs it in as it's booting it will freeze. Could she not tell me these things when they happen? I don't want to sink any money into it for repair - but dang, the budget needs to squeeze ME a new computer for recording school classes, not her a new laptop. So basically, could it just be a random noise? She said it's never done it before, here is hoping it doesn't do it again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Vista/OSX installed on my 8-core Mac Pro (early 2008). When I'm attempting to switch OS by holding alt/option during the loadup, it's no longer detecting the keypress. I have the USB wired Apple keyboard fed through my 24in dell monitor and then connected to a USB spot on the back of my mac. I've noticed that when I plug the keyboard directly into the USB on the front of the Mac, the keypress is detected just fine. The weird part is that the way I have it set up now (with the keyboard connecting through the monitor) used to work without a problem to get to the OS load screen. I recently had to reinstall OSX because of a hard drive failure and ever since, it's not detecting. It's annoying to have to unplug/replug my keyboard, just to boot in windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm not sure what to do here, but when I was using my MacBook Pro (Mac OSX), the sound suddenly stopped working, volume up, no mute, correct output, when I unplugged and plugged in speakers and headphones. I tried rebooting several times. Then I booted into Windows XP via Boot Camp. The sound works just as it should in Windows, which is where I am writing from right now.

For the past few days the sound is not working on my macbook pro; even if i put headphones on or without them it still does not work. I've went to system preferences, then went to sound and it says that everything is not muted.

I just opened up my MacBook about an hour ago, and for some reason the sound output isn't working. System preferences are as they should be (mute is not activated). I'm assuming that this is a hardware problem, but am hoping that somehow it is not. It's completely mute, btw, no sounds of any kind. When I restarted it, no sounds when it booted up again.

I have a macbook running the same OS and every thing with the same sound, and it works just fine everytime.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo recently my macbook decided to stop working properly and now the sound cuts in and out. I called up apple and they said to repair it, it was gonna cost upwards of 300 dollars 0_o. So i was wondering is there anyway i can fix it by myself or are there any other ways that i can get it to produce better sound ie speakers that will work of their own soundcard.

My Mac's audio doesn't work anymore, except for the "starting sound". The audio icon now is grey, instead of black. When I try to turn up the volume nothing happens because a "prohibition signal" appears under the volume symbol in the middle of the screen.
