When I started up my MBP this morning I got a series of pop up windows that made me a little uneasy. Since then they have been unceasing and disappear before I can click deny. I have since shut down my computer and am resorting to using my boyfriend's PC...
Any help would be appreciated. It looks like someone may have hacked my computer or something...
I installed a second hard drive, installed iphotomanager, merged some iphoto libraries onto the new drive and all was working fine. I changed some permissions ("unlocked" all of the drives as the merge was having trouble writing to the new drive but then it worked fine after I unlocked). Then I started getting the message again that it could not write to the iphoto library plist and the merging stopped working. So I thought maybe if i restart the computer, it would sort itself out but noooo, now it won't start.
It just starts to power up then you hear the drive die down. Tries over and over. So I took out the new drive I'd merged all the iphoto libraries on (which had been working fine until it didn't). But i suspect it had to do maybe with me changing permissions in the middle of the process maybe?
I tried restarting in safe mode, by holding down the shift key when I heard the start up tone until the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel appeared, and it takes longer now, but still ends up trying to restart and never gets to the login screen.
I have my Mac Pro installation disc 1 but can't find any others. I have Disk Warrior 4.0
But I can't get the disk drive to open since it won't start.
The issue I'm having is very weird taking into consideration that I just upgraded my hardware two months ago. I have an Intel X-25M SSD as my boot drive for OSX and a 1.5TB WD HDD with my Home Folder on it. Whenever, I launch an app it never launches immediately. I get a beachball that lasts about 5 seconds. When I try shutting down the computer I have to hit shutdown about 3-4 times before it does. Otherwise, it warns me with a message thats something like this: System cannot logout of user account because Safari is still in use. (but it's closed). Launching an app from an ssd should be instantaneous. So I don't understand if it is a hardware or software issue. I reset the PRAM ... helped for about a day but I'm back to the slowdowns. Any ideas. Also when I performed a software update for iTunes, the update installed but I got this warning so I have a feeling something is wrong.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was browsing with safari reading email from my msn account when safari failed to load the page. I then decided to do a force quit. Usually, when I hit command option escape, it will show me the programs then show which program was not responding, this time, it did not say that Safari wasnt responding. After waiting for at least a couple of minutes, I decided to restart the Mac by pressing on the power button to shut down. When I powered up after a minute, the gray screen with the apple in the center appeared and the cursor was forever spinning. After waiting, I decided to shut down again and then tried to zap the PRAM. This did not work so I shut down again and tried to reset the SMC.

I recently set my Mac Mail preferences (using a me.com account) to send an "away message" to the senders of all incoming messages to my mail account. Little did I know the hassle this would create -- while I was away, there were problems with neverending back-and-forth away messages to various recipients where hundreds to thousands of e-mail messages were automatically exchanged back and forth from my account to the recipient that was also away or unable to receive messages. Then I really goofed up big time and sent myself an e-mail from the same away e-mail account, and I couldn't even stop it, there were so many messages upon messages it was just ridiculous. How can I avoid this problem in the future? Is there a simpler way to set an away message using Mac Mail and a me.com account?

Have deleted and reinstalled the program from the App store with the same results. Purchased Aperture a few months ago and began without difficulties. However, recently, the program simply stopped working.

Is it better for me to buy the upgrade for windows 7, from vista to windows 7 or to buy the full copy? If i buy the fully version, should i get rid of my pardon, and re-do it with bootcamp, or should i just do it over my current pardon? (Vista) I just want the best way, less pain, less anger. Im willing to pay more for full IF IT IS THE BEST way to do it.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

Only thing is that holding down the option key during restart does nothing, and although the partition in which Windows 7 is installed under shows up in finder, I am unable to view it in system preferences so that I can boot from it. Last night I installed VMWare Fusion and Windows 7 on my Unibody MBP running SL. When I use Fusion, my computer slows to a crawl. I spent a few hours getting Windows set up and installing software last night.
I would like to try using Boot Camp instead, but do not want to lose all of the software and files that I have installed. Is it possible to set up Boot Camp, and keep the same Windows setup?

Im having trouble with VMware.. If I set the wireless network connection to NAT, the internet works, but my xbox 360 wont show up in the media streaming options in windows media player. However, if I change the network settings to bridged, I lose my internet connection (well.. sometimes it works.. 80% of the time it doesnt..) Connecting to bridged is the only way I can connect to my 360, and only some of the time where the internet will work. Is there a way to fix the problem with bridged or NAT so they both work together?

Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac. I am using a 26" tv as an external display, it works on OS X (very easily), windows XP (also very easily) and even Vista (also easily) and connecting through a DVI/HDMI connector. Why not windows 7? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macpro with OSX on one drive and windows 7 on a partition of another drive. Both systems work fine and I boot into windows by holding the option key down. What is odd is if I go to the system preferences startup disk my windows install does not show up. I did move my windows partition a while ago to a new drive. I used bootcamp to create the partition and winclone to move the data. It's not a big deal not having the option in the preference pain but would be nice. If I am in windows and go to the bootcamp control panel both OS X and Windows are there.

View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know or have the same problem where pressing the F7, F8, F9 keys (which are previous, stop/pause, and forward) doesn't work in iTunes unless iTunes is the "active" window? I know that in OS X that if i pressed those buttons, it would do it even if I was in another application, but in the Windows 7 version it won't do it if another application is "active." Also, the same applies to the Apple Remote.

The screen sort of hangs for about 20 seconds in a black screen with an underscore at the top left corner before even starting to boot into windows. I know its normal for this to happen for like 5 seconds tops, but this is happening for about 20 seconds and its dreadful trying to boot into Windows 7 because it takes so long. When windows is done starting up i don't even get any messages saying startup failed or something like that. This is so annoying that I even reinstalled everything but the same thing happened.

Actually I have some sort of annoyance with boot camp. It works as it's intended (with windows 7, which is a miracle, because everyone complains about that combination). But whenever I boot up and press "alt" to select the hard drive i want to boot, it always shows Windows. Can i change it for something else? and, how can I do it? Both of my partitions have names of their own... they're not generic... but still, they are not working, what can I do??
