Jun 18, 2012I logged in to my Mac a couple of days ago and it said it was restore to some weird date. It does not appear anything changed, but now when I am trying to download a Sims game (don't judge me lol) it won't download saying there is no Internet connection even though there is. Is there anyone to restore the system to a date that I know it was working properly without using time machine? I never bought an external drive so my time machine is not set up.

I have 2 machines: macbook pro & mac air both both running latest mountian lion. Each keeps its own time share volume on a network server. The two have some sync'd shares, but in general, they are not fully sync'd.
the macbook pro is in the shop for repair for a few days and I'd like to fetch some of it's files from its time machine backup onto the macair. I'm a little reluctant to simply fire up Time Machine on the mac air and respecify it's storage volume to be the macbook pro's volume. I'm concerned about internal configuration changes Time Machine might make to the mac air, including making changes that might cause it to have to do a full (not differential) back up when I reconfigure the mac air's Time Machine to use it's own backup volume after I'm done getting files from the macbook pro backup volume.
In addition to simply getting access to some of the files of the mac in the shop, I want to get the mac calendar from that machine and use it on the mac air. I understand that this may be somewhat trickier.

Dec 6, 2014So I deleted some music from My Music, not to the trash. I thought I was in a playlist and deleting from the playlist but I wasn't. And apparently there is no undo function in iTunes to undo this. Why is that? If you delete something why can't you undo it? Regardless of that is there anyway to get back to the older state of iTunes that included the tracks with the play count and the ratings that were there before? Perhaps something in Time Machine that can restore this?

Dec 1, 20148 nights ago my drive failed. Tech replaced it & restored data from Time Machine. He said TM gave him no options (time/date of backup to restore). I noticed immediately that several files were missing off my desktop, no idea if other files have gone missing, too. Suspect the final backup was after the drive began to fail, therefore data was corrupted.
I don't know how to locate & replace the missing files, nor how to do a restore.

Jun 25, 2014My iMac (2010) has been having tons of issues lately. More specifically, when I attempted to upgrade to Mavericks last week, it came back with S.M.A.R.T. errors after a scan, so it wouldn't allow me to update. So, in preparation for the HDD to crap out on me, I did frequent back-ups using Time Machine. Well, the day finally came and my iMac won't "turn on" anymore. When I turn it on, it sits at the Mac loading screen for several minutes and then just goes to a blank white screen.
If I buy a new iMac or a new macbook or whatever, will it be possible to use my Time Machine back-ups to restore everything on it or will it not allow me to because the operating systems are different? As mentioned, I attempted to make a restore on my friend's macbook that I purchased as a spare but when I tried, it came back saying "Different operating systems, cannot restore" or something to that degree. Is there a way around this? Do I have to somehow downgrade the OS on my new machine? I use iTunes for all my movies/music & Adobe Creative cloud so I can easily restore those on any machine but my desktop personal data, photos, etc are on the Time Machine restore.

Jun 26, 2014my MacBook Pro was stolen last year and retrieved recently. I erased all the data via disk utilities as I couldn't access the laptop - it was asking me for a username and password made during the period it was stolen. So the next step was to reinstall OS. But when I try reinstall it, it asks me for my Apple ID - which I give - and then tells me this ID wasn't used to purchase Mountain Lion previously, which I'm well aware of- it was installed on the laptop when I bought it in 2011! My Apple support has expired so I can't ask them either!
ps I have a disk with the software on it but can't get out of Restore mode on the laptop, even when I restart it. So I can't do it that way either it seems

OS X Mountain Lion :: Computer Responds Slower When TM
Aug 21, 2014My machine has 64 Gig RAM, 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon, and my main drive is a RAID consisting of 4 SSDs. What I notice is that the user response time (for opening new Finder windows and such) is slower when the Time Machine is backing up. It's not stuck - it backs up properly, but my user interface experience gets laggy when it's active. This didn't used to happen even on a much lower-spec machine (both were using WD external USB hard drives for the Time Machine backup). What can I do to keep the TM from slowing things down? I don't want to back up less frequently - I want the high specs of the expensive hardware to give me a wait-free workflow even while backing up, and I'm hoping there's a software-side solution to that. I know it's possible, since my old 10.6 Mac Pro machine didn't do that, and I would think with the good hardware, it should be faster.

Feb 28, 2008Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.

Jun 23, 2014I ran an experiment with Time Machine. Last Monday I attached a freshly erased 2TB Time Machine external HD to a Mac Mini with 400GB of data on the internal 1TB HD with no exclusions. I left the Mac Mini off network -- no wifi, no ethernet -- and did not use it for one full week. Today the 2TB Time Machine HD has only 35GB of free space.
