I'm not sure if my Mac Pro is starting up with the grey progress bar because of updates. I don't remember updating tho. When the progress bar finishes the computer shuts down. I've been turning it on for four times now and I still get the same result. I'm really anxious because I don't have backup and I need to finish my thesis in two weeks.

I came home to discover my power cord had died and my laptop turned off due to no power. I used a friend's power cord to turn it on later that night and send some emails. I bought a new power cord the next day, plugged in, and turned the laptop on. It stayed on the gray screen with a spinning wheel beneath the apple logo for a while. I restarted it and it turned off after a few seconds of the gray screen. An empty bar flashes twice horizontally at the bottom before the spinning bar begins.I tried booting in safe mode, but it would just stay on the gray screen. I tried doing shift+command+v and received a message about keys out of order and disk error full, can't repair. I was able to boot from the install disc, and when I click "Repair Disc" I get the same erros. Not sure what to do now?

My MacBook Pro will not start. It chimes and the gray progress bar starts and then the computer shuts off. I am able to start it holding the Command +R keys and access Disk Utility. That is where it says my S.M.A.R.T. drive is "failing". I have a backup from Time Machine from a week ago. I am concerned the computer is going to die. This morning, I would turn it on and it'd go to the grey screen with the Apple logo for a few seconds and then go to the icon that is a circle with a line through it. After reading online, I was able to boot it up in Safe Mode. I went to Startup Disk in Preferences. I chose the MAC OS X, xxxx and then clicked the lock to prevent further changes and then clicked restart. Now when I turn on the macbook, it goes to the grey screen with the Apple logo for at least two-three minutes and then just shuts off. Won't boot into Safe Mode now. I already tried the Command-Option-P-R keys trick like five times.

Unfortunately I bumped the switch on the power strip that my Mac Mini (1.42ghz G4, OS X 10.3) is plugged into while it was running. Now it won't boot up. All I get is the gray screen with the gray apple logo and the spinning wheel but no OSX.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2009 iMac with SSD drive and 2TB drive.For the last 6 months, I'd get kernel errors every now and again, and I would reboot and things would be fine. A few days ago, the computer totally froze, and when I turned it on, it would shut right off. I tried booting to recovery partition, nothing worked. I took it to the apple store yesterday and they hooked it up to an external drive and then did a diagnostic test and the genius said it needed a fresh install of lion, that something was corrupting it. So we did that (for some reason though, it took about 4 tries for him to get it), and then I took the computer home and ran time machine.
Every thing worked as it should for about 12 hours, I did reboot a few times in that time. Anyways, now, it's back to where it was where I turn it on, there's a status bar on the bottom that fills about halfway and then the iMac shuts down. The apple genius said that a corrupt program/application might be causing that. I find this hard to believe ... I can understand a corrupt program crashing or not starting, but is it possible for that to not allow the computer to even turn on? The other thing is that when the computer crashed a few days ago, I hadn't installed anything new/etc .... ???
How do I get my documents from Microsoft word? I have them backed up.

Whenever I try to install the latest preview of Mountain Lion, it says"Some features of OS X Mountain Lion are not supported for the disk "R2iMac". The warning directs me here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649 It seems like it'll let me continue, but once it restarted it eventually said the installation failed. The point is I do have a Recovery HD and I don't know what to do about this. I am currently running version 10.7.4 from what I read and what I was able to make out from my serial number I wont be able to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion as it says my imac is a late 2006 model.I am just curious if I am able to run Lion why Apple isnt supporting the older models that can? Seems odd to me and it is not in my budget to buy a new mac and my current one is running perfectly. I'm not sure how much I will miss out not having Mountain Lion.

I inadvertently deleted my OSX 10 Lion operating system on my Mac Mini -- tried redownloading it but continually received an automated response saying something like ".... unable to download the software, try again later"  That is not an exact quote but close. I tried several times to download the software but always received the same message. I did verify that WIFI was up and working properly on my separate laptop.

I know Mountain Lion isn't released, but I know Apple has published quite a bit of specs and requirments already. So my question, which I havent found an answer to...as it sounds a little rare. Would it be possible to send video and audio (think Netflix app, Apple Video app, etc.) from an iPhone to an Airplay Mac running Mountain Lion? I don't have a tv, don't really need one as my 27" LED dispay is just fine. But at times I'd like to send video at times from my iPhone to a Mac. One main reason is Netflix Silverlight messes with some software I have, rendering Netflix streaming impossible on the Mac. I have seen a Mac desktop app that will do this—Reflection app—but I beleive there is a lot of compression that effects quality.

I've tried to verify/fix permissions/disk but that didn't work. I even reinstalled Lion, but not from a fresh install. I'm trying to avoid a fresh install as this machine is used by many different people and it would be a pain to reinstall everything that is currently installed on it. This machine does have Deep Freeze installed. Could this be related to the issue? Even though the kernel panics on shutdown/reboot Deep Freeze is still able to save it's changes and boot thawed or frozen. Conversely, I have also tried to run a thunderbolt stability update and it can not complete due to the kernel panic.
