i am using my monitor from old Leopard computer. It works fine on the Mac mini running Lion. When not in use, instead of using the screen settings it shuts down. I have to click the mouse and sign in.

I have been having some issues since I updated to 10.7.3: My monitor does not sleep anymore and gets woken up every 45 secs. My comp. has worked perfectly, Then I installed some updates, Itunes i think? And the comp. Shut down, and when it restarts it works for a min or two, then freezes, and i get the beach ball, that just spins around and around forever.
if I don't try to open anything, or do anything when i restart it, it will just shut down, and restart, then when it comes to the Grey screen with the apple and the little circle below it, the circle looks all pixilated, and just freezes
that is the version its on (Taken two days ago, and sent to a buddy for other reasons completely)
I own the first 'remolded' revision of the Macbook released in '08 (5,1), and have had it for over a year now. Recently though, after 10 or so minutes running off just battery power (fully charged), it shuts down unexpectedly. It doesn't say the battery is low, or near low, it just shuts down. It's really annoying, I have to use the charger wherever I go. I really need my laptop so I don't really want to take it to an Apple Store and have to wait a week to get it fixed, unless it's really necessary. My software is up to date. Any ideas on what my problem is/how to fix it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my macbook for about 15 months. i noticed a while ago it had trouble turning off completely when running only on the battery. then a few weeks ago it shut itself off and wouldn't start up again. the power cord indicator was orange, but nothing worked. ordered a new battery, that didn't help. tried a different power cord - nada. i took it in to an apple repair shop and they said something about the internal power connector (i'm not a techy) and took 2 weeks to repair. i've had it back 3 weeks now and the same thing has happened. only this time there is no indicator light on any of the power adapters. and my partially charged batteries do not work on their own either.
any ideas? i don't want to keep fixing the same thing and every few weeks it keeps breaking again. i mean, what's the point in having the computer then, right??
Ever since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" iMac and have connected a Philips 160e as a pallette monitor via a Mini Display Port to VGA adaptor. the iMac sees it but auto picks the wrong resolution 1280 x 1024 (stretched) instead of the Philips' 1366 x 768 @ 60Hz.
If I try to change the resolution the screen goes black which is symptomatic of using the wrong refresh rate, and of course I can make no further adjustments. esc does not get me out of the black screen.Â
What is worse the iMac seems to remember the wrong resolution/refresh rate after restarts.Â
I have tried Safe Mode (it stayed black) and booting off an external hard drive into another system (back into black if I change the display settings).
I have gone into System Preferences > Display > Color >unchecked 'Show profiles for this display only' > selected > Philips 160E in the list
It only contains .icc profile information, which I suppose is to be expected but is the only access I can find to any specific model data. The same display works fine with an older 24" iMac, using a different adaptor because of the different display port.
Somewhere OSX is storing the settings for the external monitor, I'd love to be able to trash it or change it back.

I just bought the latest MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3 in Australia last month. I use firefox but am having trouble reading as the total screen isn't being utilised I use [URL] as a home page but it does not fill the screen and it hard to read. I was just in the Apple store and an employee there said she was having the same issue..
The Control 2 finger gesture makes it bigger but doesn't get rid of what look like large margins. I have tried the pinch gesture but maybe I am not using the correct technique as nothing happens...Â
I tried adding a screen shot by dragging a dropping but that didn't work Finally, I don't know which forum is best: Lion or MacBook Pro...Â

Is there a way to disable or hide the sleep button at the login screen? I am trying to send updates and/or commands from ARD.... But the end users are putting the computers to sleep by pressing the sleep button. This is causing the ARD updates/commands to fail. The computers and severs are all Lion OSX. If I can disable the sleep button at login then I can send the updates/commands. I normally only do the updates/commands when there is no user logged in.So I am not concerned with the case where the user is already logged in and puts the computer to sleep. I have already setup an MCX in WGM for the Energy Saver.

Upon initial restart after installation, the grey screen with the Apple icon comes up and gets stuck there. I have tried to power down and get to disk utility to try repairing permisions but it always goes to the log on screen not the recovery mode. All user ID's get a pop up that says 'you are unableto log in to the user account'x' at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred. The spinning wheel spinns by the PW the whole time the error box is up but goes away when you click OK. It also knows if you put in an incorrect PW or not Have mac mini server 10.7 and an airport extreme the net was really slow at first on other nodes so I had to move to the guest net I cannot logon to the aitport cause it is single sinon enabled Worked yesterday not today after sleeping I can log onto my Wiki page with users though?

This is the first time I've encountered this. Upon cold booting the machine it went directly to the legacy Mac OS X Server login screen from before the upgrade to Mavericks. It would not let me login with current credentials. I had no choice but to hard power off. It returned to normal operation on restart.
It could be a possible bug.

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.

My wife has a three-year old iBook G4 and yesterday while she was doing some work, the screen just went black. By the time she brought it to me the machine was shut down. I hit the power button and it started to boot up, but about five seconds later it shut itself down again.
I kept playing with it and I was able to get back in to OS X and I played with it for a few minutes and all seemed fine. I then shut the screen and put it to sleep, then when I tried to wake it back up it shut itself down once again.
After a few more tries of getting it back in to the OS I was able to get all her files off the hard drive, but the problem is still there.
My guess is that it's the logic board, but that's just a guess.
So my computer froze while I was waking it up from it's nap, so I restarted it by holding down the power button. It now shows me the gray screen, apple sign and spinning circle for about a minute before it's decided it's done and would like to turn itself off. I have tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC. I have tried restarting in safe mode. I tried to restart it off the AC adapter without the battery. I hear the chime, I see the apple, and the status circle, and then nothing!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm desperately trying to get my 3 year old macbook to cooperate - it operates fine although it has been very slow lately but occasionally it will freeze and flash a blue screen, then either just remain frozen or shut down. When I try to turn it back on, it responds as normal, but as the desktop, wireless bars, etc start to load, the pinwheel comes up and then the screen flashes blue, and the whole process of loading the desktop starts over. This repeats endlessly until after turning on and off a few times and waiting about ten minutes it will finally turn back on- something is clearly up and I'm afraid I am going to lose data.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI received my new iMac on May 20. It is a 3.06 with an ATI card. I have not had much time to use it until this evening. I had been been setting up some bookmarks in Safari and then was working on a spreadsheet for about an hour when it suddenly shut down. The power strip in which it was plugged in still had it's light on. The iMac is the only item plugged into the strip. I then felt around the screen, the bottom section was cool but the top was rather warm.
The temperature in the air conditioned house is 71�F. Programs open at the time were Safari - which was on an idle screen as I had logged out of a site. Two sessions of Finder Entourage Excel - which I was actively using. Is this an over temp shutdown? I recall some people posting the temperature of their Macs. Are there any monitors on the iMac to see how hot it is running? There were no warnings that it was going to shut down.
I have a mac mini intel and I was in the middle of working with my blogs, then there was an annoying spinning wheel of death, so normally, I would hold the power button for few button to restart and I did. then when the desktop was loading, everything was back to the "new" desktop with alot of stuffs missing, so I restarted it again using the apple menu, then the startup screen took so long and out of nowhere, it shutted down by itself. I tried to power it on again and again, unplugged the cords, still didn't work.
