OS X Mavericks :: What Can Cause - False Disk Needs To Be Repaired - Message
Jul 1, 2014
when using OnyX or Disk First Aid, a message states to restart the computer, holding Command-R and to repair my disk.Every single time, the disk turns out to be OK.
Question 1: Is this a false reading, or is the disk actually being fixed by the Control-R combination?
Question 2: If it is NOT a false reading, since my programs don't crash and I always shut down properly, what could cause the errors?

I have often a pop up message : your hard drive is full. If I am looking on my HD information there is written 0 mg remaining . If I restart the computer, I can read 51 G. Few minutes after the pop up come on again and it's like if the HD lost 51G of space ! Some time remaining space is changing when I am reading on the screen. I rebuilded the volume, used Disk utility for permissions, I tested the Hard drive ....

So, I just did the update last night, and I think after that my internet stopped working. It was late, so I just went to sleep. This morning, I wake up and open Firefox. Internet not working. Even though I know it won't work, I open my remote desktop connection and try to log on to my work computer using the WiFi in my apartment. Well, for some reason that worked. I am typing this message right now through a remote connection, but using the same WiFi that firefox and safari tell me that is no internet connections when I try to open it up from my computer.
To make it even weirder, I opened quicken on my computer here and tried to download transactions, and not only did it download them, but it took me to the actual bank site and I could navigate all over it. But when I tried to go to a different website, it did the exact same thing and stalled out again. How can I use this internet connection to log on remotely and use the internet remotely, but on local programs, it tells me I have no internet connection?

I've been using OSX since OSX.1 and I have yet to run into a time where Disk Utility did not come up with False Positives. In latest version Yosemite, all Print Driver components from all supported manufacturers that are part of Yosemite, show up as false positives. I haven't counted but seems close to 100 +files.
What I would like to know is. Why is it so tough for the systems developers which mst likely some of the best in the world, Ca not come up with a script that would monitor Disk Utilities for false positives and mark them as invisible after say the third run. This would be reset each time a new Disk Utilities version comes out.
How long has OSX.1 been out 15-20 years? You would think in that period of time this issue would be fixed. I realize as OSX used FreeBSD UNIX that it is a Constantly moving system being updated al most daily. But still you should be able to come up with something to prevent wasting tim repairing items that don't need to be repaired.
I used Mavericks previously a smaller portion of the same Driver files came up as false positives. When I switched to Yosemite the list grew 3 fold.

I'm not really sure what to do or what exactly is wrong. I'm hoping not to reboot or reinstall all together, but if I have to... I suppose there's no choice. I tried 'Verify Disk' from the utilities, but is fails and says
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 712836 instead of 712840)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 171417 instead of 171413)
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
I tried doing a 'Repair Disk' from the installation CD, but it says it fails because it could not unmount the HD.

Since a week or 3 my Imac is bleeping whenever the harddisk is put to work. Before this it was impossible to make a time machine copy, it would hang at a certain point. I recently did a disk utility scan which could not be finished (aborted by the system) as it was saying (translated from Dutch):
"Volume-information being checked Wrong amount of free blocks on this volume (Has to be 38684126 in stead of 38684119)The volume 'Macintosh HD' is damaged and need to be repaired.Error: this disk needs to be repaired. Restart system with another disk (like Mac OS X-installdisk) and use disk utility to repair this disk."
So I put the installdisk 1 in, but the Imac spits it out, refuses to start up in harddisk repair mode or any other mode at all. It just spits it out and starts as usual. Install disk 2 it doesnt spit out, but I can only open a read me file. Like said, the Imac works fine, except that it is guided by literaly hundreds of beeps in high and low, short and long. I feel like being at a supermarket having my items scanned. That is what it sounds like. It is quite vocal but annoying and seem to multiply every day. In the beginning it only did at start up just a few beeps, then it got more, and now it beeps also in sleep mode.
I cannot do a disk repair, also not with the latest OS X update (snowleopard, since Lion is not working on my 1GB drive). I do notice though that the difference in this error code is getting bigger, it used to be just one block difference, now it is 7.
Also I took the memory modules out yesterday and put them back in, as I heard this can also help get rid of the beeps. It did not solve anything at all.I can't find anything on this problem on internet, because all beep related topics are about the error codes for the RAM drives. These are not the same sounds. Another attempt was to install the cms program to avoid overheating fans. Also no improvement.

On one of our MacBook Pros (Late-2011), running the latest OS X 10.7.3, Disk Utility says the volume needs to be repaired. When I use Disk Utility from the Recovery HD, it says the volume appears to be OK. I verified by using fsck in single-user mode, and it found no problems either. Which do I believe? Is this a sign of a soon-to-fail hard drive?

I already repaired the rights on the disk. Mac does not drive down, obviously after certain programs have been started. One of those programs is itunes. I have to use the power switch button for switching it off. Mac can be driven down normally immediately after start-up.

I am having a very slow running iMac on snow leopard 10.6.8, and using disk utility, am being told the disk needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Missing thread record (id = 1322757) Incorrect number of thread records
Invalid volume file count (It should be 880464 instead of 880473)
So I need to find my installation disk, and my question is: is this installation disk internal, somewhere within the iMac, or is in on a physical cd somewhere in my mess?
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), only 6GB free space

Disk Warrior reported a damaged resource header that cannot be repaired. The resource header is in an "older" file format (rsrc). I have been having fairly frequent freezes of the system and Disk Utility reporting a corrupted HD which Disk Unility is always able to repair and report the HD to be O.K. Could the damaged header be the cause of the freezes? If so, can anything be done about it if Warrior says it cannot be repaired?

Started G5, got a question mark. Rebooted from disk. Tried to repair. Told me it could not exit and complete repair to HD. Restarted again. This time everything in utility window red. Message is Fatal Hardware error to disk utility. Back-up if not completely failed and replace with new drive.
Not great at behind the scenes with my mac. Does this mean a shop visit. Any estimate on cost to me. Had lots of Macs. This is the first to crash and burn and its not that old.

I seem to be getting an error message when i run Disk Utility, it says "Invalid Block Count, your disk is corrupt and needs to be repaired". I then repair it using the Lion recovery disk and it repairs it. Maybe a month or so down the line it appears again I then do the same and the end result is the same, can anyone help with this as it is worrying me. Also is there any way you can get rid of the bad sectors in the HDD when problems appear?

3 emails from the same sender, to the same recipients (a BCC: email group), but at different times on the same day, and with different Subjects and content, were grouped together as Duplicates.
The only reason I knew they were 3 different emails, is I had first downloaded them on my iPhone, where they do show up as 3 different messages.
This is a serious bug in my opinion: the emails were from an important prospective client for my startup company, each with important content, and had it not been for the fact that I was away for the weekend without my Mac, and first downloaded them on my iPhone, I would never have known that the emails were all different. Apple could be causing lots of people to be missing important emails.
Since I do now know they are not duplicates, I can click on the "2 Duplicates" link at the top of the one email that shows up in my Inbox, and see the other 2.
But don't want this to happen again (and I'm guessing it has probably happened before and I simply didn't know).

Recently my MacPro has been giving multiple errors that I can't open a particular application because PowerPC application are no longer supported. It references an application that I don't have on my computer and I'm not trying to open. I keeps listing the error over and over. Last night it listed it 88 times before I woke up this morning. They list one on top of the other running down from the middle of the screen to the right lower corner and then pile up there. I don't know what to do other than erase the drive and reformat and I really don't want to do that. I'm attaching a screenshot.
This shot shows 8 repeats in about 4 hours one day last week. This started about 3 months after I installed Lion, and I haven't installed anything else since I upgraded to Lion.

Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems.
Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.
Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

I have a MacBook Pro running Mavericks.
Recently I noticed that if I run Check Disk in Disk Utility, all the process works correctly but at the end it doesn't tell me that everything is correct (in green).
On the contrary, if I run it in recovery mode, (reboot w cmd-r), it works correctly to the end with the correct green result at the end.

I just got a message that my startup disk is full. It happened while I was importing some videos. I do have a lot of videos on there. It's my daughter's macbook, but I use it for video editing. Is the startup disk the hard drive on these things? I'm not completely used to Macs yet, I was planning on deleting some of the older video files that are no longer needed, but should my daughter delete photos, etc. too?
