OS X :: Updated To 10.5.7 - Icons Missing And System Freezes
Jun 2, 2009I've been experience intermediate issues ranging from not showing icons standard in OSX (such as in my shared devices, HardDrive icons tha tmount on the desktop, etc) this is a unibody 2.4ghz i got in February that came with 10.5.5 and used combo updates on each update...ive done a blank install from scratch with nothing on it and i still experience the missing icon issues that dont happen on other unibody mbps i use ??
((the other macbook pro im connecting to is an identical model 2.4 and the other one is a unibody 17, they display the proper icons under 10.5.7, unlike shown below))
My system gets random freezes even when nothing but the browser, word or small applications, it will beachball for aboud 30seconds to 2minutes even after a clean install and a combo straight to 10.5.7 any ideas on these issues? Am I the only one who is having these missing icon issues...even after a clean isntall with the original OSX Install Discs?

I am using Mac OS X version10.5.8. If I choose About Java Preferences it says I have Java 6 Standard Edition version 12.9.0. How to find the correct update.

ICloud :: Missing Photos In Photo Stream?
May 11, 2012I take pictures with my iPhone 4s and they go to my iPad just great but I only get about 50% of them to my MacBook Pro. They are radomly not there. There will be five or six that are there then 5 or 6 that are black no photo. All the warythrough the 200 photos I took on my latest trip? Is there any reason for this random messing up of photos? Is there anyway of getting them on the MacBook short of syncing my iPhone 4s through iPhoto? I am not liking this Photo Stream right now to many missing photos.Â

Jun 22, 2014Following a system freeze-up (happened while browsing with Safari) with Aperture 3.5.1 open and a forced shut-down, my Aperture library got messed up. Aperture suggested to rebuild the database and I did. After two or three rebuilds (all by Aperture's advice), there's no visible previews/photos in the library. The library listing is right, with all folders, projects and so on in place. But no visible photos. Only empty frames. When I click on a project or folder, my Qnap NAS drive (I have the complete Aperture library on it) sounds and behaves as if it searches and finds the photos, but Aperture shows nothing. It's as if the previews have gone missing. My library, when asked to show the content in the folder from finder, seems complete.

Sep 12, 2014Saved my .AI file I was working on, the power shut down in the office and when I restarted my computer, the file was 2 previous saves before. I lost important info. Is there a way to find a hidden file from somewhere in outer space to access the most saved version of the file. I DO save my files often to avoid some basic issues, but this one seems like a software glitch.

Jun 5, 2014When I updated my MacBook Air software from 10.6.8 to Maverick I lost all my videos in the process. Where did they go and how do I get them back? Did they all end up in various events folders in iphoto? They used to also be separate from the photos in the video folder on the harddrive but are no longer there.

OS X Mavericks :: Can't Access Search Results On Finder After System Is Updated
Aug 28, 2014I work everyday with my 21.5' iMac and it had OS Lion before I updated to Mavericks last month. As I work with lots of files, I have also a 1TB Lacie external drive pluged into it via firewire and I constantly access these files. After I updated though, I'm experiencing a strange problem. Everytime I search for a file on Finder, all the results that come up can't be edited or even selected. This is driving me crazy because I must open another tab and go all the way through the file I want as I can't select any file from the searches. All the search results come up written in gray color and with a empty circle on its left side. I can't even click on them! For better explanation, here is a picture of what happens:
Before the update, I used to normally access every result the search came up to.
I have another iMac here in the network with Mavericks too and all the searches returns with selectable and editable results.

Aug 29, 2014I migrated from an older OS X Mac to a newer 27" iMac via Time Machine backup. The user accounts were created perfectly during the migration, as was the Admin account. On first start up on the log in screen, and ever since, the users' icons or names & passwords will not be displayed, but the Guest and Admin icons will display properly. I can log in as Admin, then go to the fast user switching screen, and all the accounts are displayed and behave the way they should. Automatic log in is turned off.

Aug 26, 2014I have added a new mailbox called archive in mail and selected "On My Mac". I was expecting that it would show up in my sidebar under "On My Mac", but nothing shows.
I tried recreating the mailbox and I get an error that it already exists.Â
I am not syncing with iCloud so I know that is not the issue.Â
How do I get "On My Mac" mailboxes to show in the app?Â

OS X Mavericks :: Recovery Partition Missing
Jun 19, 2014I recently experienced trouble with my iMac Late 2012. As a result of this I was wanting to do the step of reinstalling the OS completely. Complete with Time Machine backup and so on. So far so good.
As I tried booting into recovery holding R nothing happened. Tried again booting with options hold down. It then only showed me my hard drive to choose from. With another Mac I made a bootable Flash Drive which worked perfectly in my MacBook Air. So tried booting to the flash drive with my iMac by holding C and then again with options and again I was presented only my regular hard drive. Â
I already did this terminal thing { diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit and the result showed that there is no Recovery Partition installed. Still no problem. I did research and found out that it is possible to reinstall it by reinstalling Mavericks. No the only problem is: It won"t let me reinstall anything. I only got prompted a message that it can't be installed on my hard drive.
So now my question: Â Is there any other possibility to get rid of anything there is on my hard drive and do a clean fresh install of Mavericks?
OS X Mavericks :: Mail - Sent Emails Missing?

I have a number of email accounts, most of them IMAP.Â
It seems recently (say the past month) its been very slow. The Activity windows shows the accounts seems to just not move. They do eventually process but it takes a long time. They will sit for a minute on stuff like:Â
"Opening mailbox"
"Getting unread counts"
"Checking status of mailbox"Â
It seems sometimes they are fast, but when an account gets "stuck" it just takes forwever........ Â
Shutting Mail down (or trying to reboot) takes a long time because it always has to wait for these processes to try and finish.Â
Perhaps the bigger problem (maybe related maybe not) is that sometimes when I send an email, there is not record of that email.  Its not placed in any Sent folder, its not uploaded to the IMAP account. However, they do seem to be actually sent.  I *think* this may account while Mail is "stuck" trying to process an account, but I'm not sure.... Â
I have tried Rebuilding all the IMAP folders (not all my offline folders). I have deleted the Envelope files to have Mail reindex. Â

Dec 3, 2014I am using Mail from my 15", late 2012, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 MBP running Maverick OSX 10.9.5 with 16 GB memory. I have 4 mail accounts with approximately 30 folders. Everything has worked fairly good the past year, with a bump here and there. Suddenly today nearly all mail in these folders has disappeared. There are a few folders that have retained all their mail, however the majority is gone. Is there a remedy or is it gone? Rebuild has done no good.

Example i have a mailbox called "machines" which shows only email from 20-02-14 all mails before that date are missing..Â
I tried rebuild mailbox but it just shows mail from 20-02-14.Â
The interesting part is the mail from before is still there..Â
when i search for a mail in spotlight from a sender it shows the mail and shows it to be in the machines folder.. i can open the mail read its content. But when i see the machines mailbox the mail is not listed there.Â
what could be the problem and how can i get the mails back this is happening on almost every mailbox.Â

OS X Mavericks :: Bootcamp Not Starting - BOOTMGR Missing
Dec 2, 2014I attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD. I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp. When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery". I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.Â
I have a Mid-2009 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.53ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.9.5.

Aug 27, 2014I scroll through my incoming mail and find a message I want to reply to or forward. I move my cursor to the body of the message and swipe up and down to try to make the mini tool bar (trash reply reply all forward) appear within the message.Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried clicking on the message and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Sep 6, 2014The time and date, wifi and other icons are missing from the toolbar. Other icons are missing from the finder window and the dismiss and minimize icons are missing from all windows. I have tried to delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and also tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. When I do reboot, the some, but not all, of the top bar icons appear then disappear. It must be a plist file but I haven't a clue as to which one...
