PROBLEM:
when a RESTART my device, I don't see the PASSWORD FIELD. I see the pointer, the "welcome message" below,the name of the admin (myself) above, the picture above. i see everything but the space in wich you write the password.i can write it without seeing it neither its field.
If you have a contact in Addressbook (AB) with a nickname, if you also use Apple Mail (AM) and create a new email and start to type the contact's email in the TO field, AM will finish your typing giving you a list of related possible email addresses to choose from. The problem is that in addition to the email addressk AM adds the contact's nickname as opposed to it's firstname/lastname or even business name. We need a preference for this, per contact.
Example: In AB you have a contact:
Name: Jon Doe
Company Doe Company
Nickname: The Doester
email: jon.doe@doecompany.com
In AM you start to write an email: and type: "jon" and AM shows you a list of possible related emails one of which will be: "The Doester" [URL]Commentary: now if a casual email to a friend, this is OK. But what if this is a business oriented email and "The Doester" isn't appropriate? You can only stop the inclusion of "The Doester" by deleting it from the Nickname field in the AB. This is presumptuous on Apple's part, or a bug, that the Nickname should trump the first/lastname or company name.
I don't exactly know the answser to this. If we could easily choose which name to append in front of the email address (firstname/lastname, company name or nickname) that would be cool. Or maybe no name gets added if it has to be: all or nothing from a programming point of view. But having nickname as the primary, if it exists, can be a problem in certain correspondence IMHO.

I have a log in password on my mac , i was be able to see my typing password before ( the black circles presented for hidden words ) but now i cant see my typing , the password only appear when i incident type the password and hit enter .

For the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent.
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.
I migrated from an older OS X Mac to a newer 27" iMac via Time Machine backup. The user accounts were created perfectly during the migration, as was the Admin account. On first start up on the log in screen, and ever since, the users' icons or names & passwords will not be displayed, but the Guest and Admin icons will display properly. I can log in as Admin, then go to the fast user switching screen, and all the accounts are displayed and behave the way they should. Automatic log in is turned off.

I have added a new mailbox called archive in mail and selected "On My Mac". I was expecting that it would show up in my sidebar under "On My Mac", but nothing shows.
I tried recreating the mailbox and I get an error that it already exists.
I am not syncing with iCloud so I know that is not the issue.
How do I get "On My Mac" mailboxes to show in the app?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently experienced trouble with my iMac Late 2012. As a result of this I was wanting to do the step of reinstalling the OS completely. Complete with Time Machine backup and so on. So far so good.
As I tried booting into recovery holding R nothing happened. Tried again booting with options hold down. It then only showed me my hard drive to choose from. With another Mac I made a bootable Flash Drive which worked perfectly in my MacBook Air. So tried booting to the flash drive with my iMac by holding C and then again with options and again I was presented only my regular hard drive.
I already did this terminal thing { diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit and the result showed that there is no Recovery Partition installed. Still no problem. I did research and found out that it is possible to reinstall it by reinstalling Mavericks. No the only problem is: It won"t let me reinstall anything. I only got prompted a message that it can't be installed on my hard drive.
So now my question: Is there any other possibility to get rid of anything there is on my hard drive and do a clean fresh install of Mavericks?

I have a number of email accounts, most of them IMAP.
It seems recently (say the past month) its been very slow. The Activity windows shows the accounts seems to just not move. They do eventually process but it takes a long time. They will sit for a minute on stuff like:
"Opening mailbox"
"Getting unread counts"
"Checking status of mailbox"
It seems sometimes they are fast, but when an account gets "stuck" it just takes forwever........
Shutting Mail down (or trying to reboot) takes a long time because it always has to wait for these processes to try and finish.
Perhaps the bigger problem (maybe related maybe not) is that sometimes when I send an email, there is not record of that email. Its not placed in any Sent folder, its not uploaded to the IMAP account. However, they do seem to be actually sent. I *think* this may account while Mail is "stuck" trying to process an account, but I'm not sure....
I have tried Rebuilding all the IMAP folders (not all my offline folders). I have deleted the Envelope files to have Mail reindex.

I am trying to figure out why I can select some email addresses from senders, and when I right click, I get the option to add that address to my contacts, while in others this selection is missing. In either case, the email address or contact IS NOT in my contacts.

Since upgrading to Maverick 10.9.3 my Photoshop Layer Style icon (.asl files) has disappeared and there is only a generic white piece of paper instead.
The other icons for Actions and Brushes are there so I'm wondering why the .asl icon is not appearing.

I am using Mail from my 15", late 2012, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 MBP running Maverick OSX 10.9.5 with 16 GB memory. I have 4 mail accounts with approximately 30 folders. Everything has worked fairly good the past year, with a bump here and there. Suddenly today nearly all mail in these folders has disappeared. There are a few folders that have retained all their mail, however the majority is gone. Is there a remedy or is it gone? Rebuild has done no good.

I have lots of emails missing from my mailbox from the day i upgraded to mavricks
Example i have a mailbox called "machines" which shows only email from 20-02-14 all mails before that date are missing..
I tried rebuild mailbox but it just shows mail from 20-02-14.
The interesting part is the mail from before is still there..
when i search for a mail in spotlight from a sender it shows the mail and shows it to be in the machines folder.. i can open the mail read its content. But when i see the machines mailbox the mail is not listed there.
what could be the problem and how can i get the mails back this is happening on almost every mailbox.

I attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD. I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp. When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery". I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.

I scroll through my incoming mail and find a message I want to reply to or forward. I move my cursor to the body of the message and swipe up and down to try to make the mini tool bar (trash reply reply all forward) appear within the message.Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried clicking on the message and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I noticed that System Preferences, App Store no longer shows a padlock at the lower left hand corner, yet other System Preference windows show the padlock. Why is that? Is there a way to restore the padlock? I have already tried "repairing" my install and the padlock did not come back.

The time and date, wifi and other icons are missing from the toolbar. Other icons are missing from the finder window and the dismiss and minimize icons are missing from all windows. I have tried to delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and also tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. When I do reboot, the some, but not all, of the top bar icons appear then disappear. It must be a plist file but I haven't a clue as to which one...

I have 2 software updates for my Epson CX5000 all-in-one printer listed in the Software update. The Printer Utility file/folder/software is missing. I have done multiple searches with no success in finding it in my iMac with the newly upgraded OSX Mavericks. It is so difficult to get the software for this printer. Unable to get it from the Epson site. Can get only from Mac Software update. Is there a way to remove the software updates which are the same and start anew? Updates are dated June 19th.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a lab of ~30 MacBook Airs running OS 10.9.4. We have MS students login using the Guest account with no password. The Guest account folder is deleted after every logout. Starting this week we are seeing keychain popups saying: A keychain cannot be found to store "Safari." or "Chrome." selecting Reset To Defaults makes no difference.
Opening Keychain Access is a slow process, but it does eventually come up. There is no Login keychain. And the Local Items and System Roots keychains are locked and do not open with a blank password.
Frankly, I don't want this guest account to be remembering any URL related password. So is there a way to shut down or highly restrict the Keychain functionality? If not, what do I need to do to fix or prevent all these popup messages and system pauses as the MacBook figures out for the nth time that Keychain isn't working as it expects it to?
Disk Utility Crashed whilst creating a Partition, and I now have ~100GB missing, which was the amount I had allocated to the new partition.
The new partition didn't get created, and I now have 100GB missing from the Hard drive. I have a 1TB hard drive, and when I go to Disk Utility, it says: Capacity : 999.35 GB (999,345,127,424 Bytes)Available : 586.1 GB (586,103,844,864 Bytes)Used : 310.52 GB (310,524,317,696 Bytes)
Which adds up to about ~900GB.
I tried Repairing Disk in Disk Utility, booting into Recovery Mode and Repairing Disk there, but neither made a difference.
