I just woke up a few minutes age. The Mac was switched off. When I came back into the room it was on. I am the only person in the house. And this is at least the third time it has happened in the last few weeks AT THE SAME TIME IN THE MORNING. Is somebody hacked into my computer?

Three months ago I switched to a macbook pro after fifteen years of pc use at home and with my business. I was led down this path as a result of my iPhone use mainly. I wonder how many new recruits Apple have got through the iPhone platform?

I am using Linux/Ubuntu for 3 years now . I always wanted a Mac but could not afford it. Mac OS is quite similar to Ubuntu as they share common back ground from Unix. what thing I am going to miss if I switch. Ubuntu is highly customizable (we can make it look according to our needs). I wonder if this can be done with Mac OS X. How do you use your computer with only one mouse button. I am looking to buy a MBP 15".

My Dad is having issue with his MacBook Pro. So today he shut the MacBook down, but when he switched it on again it booted fine, right through the chime and Apple logo, but when it got to the login screen it switched off. The power adaptor was connected. He has been having problems with the battery, with it not holding a charge.

Basically my i5 15" MBP will run the battery right down till it switches off without sleeping. Then it will have to be charged till it switches on again, and it boots up fresh.

I just switched from a Windows based system to a Mac Pro. How do I get Mac to recognize devices? I have plugged in several external hard drives to download photos, a card reader, and a printer. How do I install these devices? How do I install a printer? They obviously are not "plug and play". What am I doing wrong?

I have an apple iBook that I bought in 2001 (yeah, its old but then Mac's are suppose to be immortal!). Lately, I have started to have a particular problem as in the screen goes black when I switch on the machine. It's not completely blank as I can see the back ground but not enough to use the computer. I have to manually adjust the screen by getting is back and forth close to the keyboard till I see the screen brightly. When I let go the screen it again turns black.
More recently even this has stopped working and when I wake my my computer first thing in the morning it refuses to show a bright screen. And I have to wait for a couple of hours for the machine to warm up and then after fiddling with the screen it finally allows me to watch a normal looking bright monitor. I am quite fed up. Am planning to show it to an Apple authorized service provider.

I just upgraded to iPhone 4S and switched from MobileMe to iCloud. I knew I was losing some features, but since the System Preferences…>iCloud pane (in Mac OS X 10.7.3) shows "Mail & Notes" (which I checked), I figured that notes will continue to sync. Except they do not. And, unlike the MobileMe PrefPane, there is no "Sync now" button to force synchronization. So, the notes on my iPhone and on my MBP are now out of sync. Then I thought to check on icloud.com… and find no way to access Notes there. So, are Notes supposed to be sync'ed or not?? Does anyone else have this problem? (I suspect I can connect the iPhone to iTunes, and force the transfer of info, but that would not merge them and I'm likely going to lose something

I recently switched from Windows PC to an iMac a couple of weeks ago.Having sero experience with mac's I asked a friend of mine how I should transfer my itunes over to the new iMac from PC. He said I just need to copy my music and movies over from the old PC and authorise my new iMac.However, just today I plugged in my iphone4 to the mac to get some photo's off it and update some music but im getting an error telling me my iphone is currently synced with another library.Several questions:How do I get my photo's off my iphone before it wipes it?Should my app's automatically appear in my itunes now my iMac has been authorised? What about things like calendar entries? I dont see them in iCal on the iMac?

Peculiar problem. My sound suddenly switched to being internal speaker only, even though I have decklink HD Extreme card and was using it as my audio output the night before. Narrowed the problem down to anything being plugged in to the firewire ports - FW400 and FW800 ports and drives or even my Mini DV deck. When I plug anything into the firewire ports, trying to get to the sound settings in system preferences hangs, and all sound will only work on the internal speaker. This is a sudden problem and leaves me only being able to plug in esata external hard drives. There is some sort of conflict going on somewhere.
Mac Pro 2008
Mac Osx 10.5.8
Decklink HD Extreme card
Recently installed LaCie eSATA II PCI Express Card.
Use the machine mostly for video editing, so really need the external HDs.

I just switched from windows/pc and want to know if it's possible to "logout" of an account without shutting down applications/internet connectivity. I used to be able to click "log off" (in windows) when I got up to leave my computer (for security) so that I would have to type in my username and password to get back in and applications such as AIM and internet connection were still available. Can you do this on a Mac? So far I only see options to log out completely or to put it into full sleep mode (signing you off of AIM and iChat).

my display appears to have two diagonal white streaks on the dark screen when it is off - I'm finding this really disturbing as this machine is still well under a year old and I can find no reason for this. it doesn't show up when the screen is on or I'm working on it.

I have recently gone cold turkey on QWERTY in favour of the Dvorak keyboard layout, to see if it's really all that it's cracked up to be. However one thing really bugs me, and that is when entering my password in the log-in window, the keyboard remains in QWERTY mode. This is especially annoying because I have actually switched the keycaps on my keyboard to the Dvorak format, so I have to rely on my muscle memory to type my password in QWERTY when I'm logging in after a restart.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that the log-in window is in Dvorak format as well? I am the only user of this computer, so if a fix exists that applies to all users, well, that doesn't matter - as long as I can still undo it later on if I decide QWERTY is better after all. (basically, I want to make the Dvorak layout a system-level default rather than just a user-level default)

I was attempting to fix a 210 error on my 10.5.8 OSX Server Wiki Calendar. I highlighted my 58 user accounts in Workgroup manager and selected Enable calendaring and the machine hung up. I had to force quit the Workgroup Manager and restarted the machine.I then tried to log into my administartor account and was unable to. We logged into another account and had to create a new admin account where I noticed the admin account that was created on install had been changed somehow to Admin, Sharing Only.

As the title said, I've upgraded my HD and restored my system from a Time Machine backup, but now I'm having trouble with some apps either failing to open (when I click them, I get message saying "[app name] quit unexpectedly"), or some apps opening but then coming up with the same error when I try and click anything - these apps also drive the CPU usage right up while they're running.

Here's my situation. I currently have a 1st gen MacBook (black) that I purchased when I graduated high school back in 2006. I've been using it ever since, and now that it's starting to show its age, I'm looking to upgrade. The last few months I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want a 13" MBP, a 15" MBP, or a 21.5" iMac. I'm majoring in Geography and next semester I'm taking Cartography and Illustrator is the software we will be using for projects. The main reasons why I'm considering an iMac over a MBP are as follows:
1. My MacBook hardly ever leaves my desk. 95 percent of the time, it's at home on my desk because the battery doesn't last long enough to get anything done. Even when I am at home, I never use it around my house because one of my roommates has a dog that constantly knocks things over and I wouldn't want to get water, beer, or whatever kind of beverage is sitting in my living room to spill over my computer. When I do leave to go back home, it's only for 2 or 3 days at a time, and even then I usually end up using either my Mom or my Dad's iMac anyway.

I got my computer yesterday, it's a iBook G4 OS X 10.5.8. The charger worked fine until around six o' clock. Then it wouldn't charge. We switched the power pack and it worked for an hour or so, and then the same thing. What can I do? I CANNOT take it to be fixed.
