I do remember that on Mountain Lion somehow I did that CPU load was shown @ a bottom left corner of desktop with horizontal transparent thin bars.
But I cannot find how I managed to make it in Mavericks...

Does anyone know a way (script, add-on, etc.) to create a floating window in safari, just for everyday use (i.e. not webdesign). The reason is I'd like to be able to have a movie/show playing in one smaller floating window, and still be able to browse but still see my movie/show.

I need to install windows on my iMac. The plan is to install it in under bootcamp so that my better half can boot to windows for her stuff, which is straight forward enough. I will probably install parallels (or similar) to give myself the option of either boot to windows or access it virtually. Now, on the basis that this is a first for me I have a couple of questions that I could do with answering from those that know this stuff.
1. Am I likely to run into any windows licensing issues. I'm assuming that I will only need 1 license.
2. If I edit a file, a word .doc for example, in a virtual window, is that edit saved to the original file? e.g. if I then boot to windows and open the file, then the edits made virtually are there. Simple stuff I know, but like I said, it's a first for me.
3. What are my options for backing up the windows partition, can I back it up using Time Machine / Capsule?
I have Boot Camp set up so Parallels Desktop can access it. Trouble is, whenever I boot up using Parallels, Windows Activation fails. If I boot up in Boot Camp, and reactive, all is fine. Rather annoying - Windows functions fine (as far as I'm aware) when the activation fails, but it just means that I have to keep closing the popup box that appears. Best way to sort all of this?

I don't want to do it all the time, but want to be able to do it when I'm focusing on a single program, or want to use as much screen real estate as possible.
Are there any plugins, programs, or Automator settings that would allow me to do this?
Is there any way of making a window stay in the back no matter what, as if it was stuck to the background? I want to do this with my adium since there is no use to have the contact window anywhere but the background, and it would have been kind of cool if it stuck to the background somehow xD.

Firefox' site rendering is much more fluid than Safari's. Safari loads the BACKGROUND again and again with each click completely upsetting the eye. Firefox has the background steadily black as it is and loads the randomized image properly without any kind of irritation.Is there a way to make Safari load pages more efficiently like Firefox?Or is it just a rendering of all WebKit browsers that behaves like that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just tried to mess around with some stuff in iTunes so i can sync my iPhone on both of my Macs. I did it all as instructed but when I opened the window was huge, and I can't make it any smaller. It's like a copy of my iTunes on my 24" iMac.
I tried deleting everything iTunes related and reinstalling but still the same.
Anyone got any solutions as to how to have a COMPLETELY clean version of itunes, or how to make the window smaller?
The red green and blue buttons in the top left of a window. Is there any way to make them bigger like in 10.6. They're too small.

I have an MBA 2011 with 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1.7. I am very shortsighted and have struggled with the poor contrast levels between tabs and the rest of the Safari UI. My solution has been to switch off tabs, use windows instead. and configure my right option key as an App Expose shortcut. This works very nicely, but the only fly in the ointment is that when I click on a link I wish to open in a new window, it defaults to always opening in a new ACTIVE window, when I'd usually prefer it to open in the background as per tabs.Â
I have checked and unchecked the option in the 'tabs' preference pane with no luck- do I need to re login to make this stick? CMD-Click works to a point, but it's not reliable, and I find it finicky, even though I've routed it to a touchpad gesture through BetterTouchTool. Is there any other way to force safari to open new windows in the background - perhaps by adding a new item to the context menu? I'd really like to resolve this as I'd love to make the switch from Chrome to Safari, especially with ML coming very soon. Â

At a random time months ago (I cant pinpoint what triggered it) certain windows started to make themselves half-opaque when inactive. They seem to be "cocoa" applications (though I'm not sure the exact definition of that). The windows that are effected are: Skype v2.8.0 (chat windows only, not main 'buddy list') iMovie / iPhoto... I think there are more, I can't figure out which though. I'll update. The windows that are (surprisingly) NOT effected are: Windows Live Messenger v7.0.2

I have the program named "Afloat" and it seems to be inconsequential to the problem.
I bought a macbook pro off ebay it's a 15in model # A1211 and I just put a new hard drive in it. The hard drive is a seagate 500gb 7200rpm. The real question I have is that I cloned my hard drive but in disk utility I cant just move my hard drive down extend my space to fill in the empty space for my mac partition. Also my hard drive is dual boot via bootcamp with windows 7.

Prior to Lion, if I clicked on my Dashboard, my widgets would all appear "floating" on the desktop. Post-Lion, if I click on Dashboard, my widgets appear on a separate screen with a blank background. Is there any way to get the widgets back to "floating" on the desktop. (I'm sure floating is not the technical term.) I don't have a ton of widgets -- just the basics. I need the calculator widget to appear on the desktop so I can use it when looking at a spreadsheet. (It's not an urgent issue, except that I am working on my taxes -- and it would make life easier.) My adorable cat Ari, decided to sit on the keyboard of my ibook and now I have what I can only describe as a "floating desktop"--the entire screen floats or moves with every move of the cursor. Cursor to the right, page moves left, cursor up, page down. While his entire bottom was on about half of the keyboard, he seemed to be mostly on the volume key, because I could hear the blip, blip, sound that key makes.
View 10 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine, who's new to apple computers, is using an old powerbook g4 (15" inch) running OS 10.4.9. Everything was normal (except for the screen which is screwed up in the bottom half. But suddenly now as soon as it boots up, it doesn't show the apple logo, but shows a blue screen with a yellow satellite kinda looking graphic, floating around. I can hold the shift button and boot into safe-mode, but I have no clue of what to do, as I don't know what went wrong.

There are light vertical wavy floating lines visible on the screen when running Windows XP. They are more clearly seen when you look the screen at an angle, from down below you look upwards to the screen. The floating lines can be precisely seen on grey backgrounds. These lines are not noticable much, but when you closely look with grey backgrounds, they are visible.
The problem is very strange because I've tried updating the drivers to my HD2600XT, and no luck at all.
I'm not able to determine wether the problem is hardware of software related, due to the problem not existing in Mac OS X.
