OS X Mavericks :: Can't Open Or Drag Windows Onto Second Monitor
Jun 22, 2014
downloaded Mavericks and now i can't open or drag windows onto second monitor! I can access the tool bar, change the wallpaper, etc. in second monitor, but i not able to display anything!
I've searched for an hour but couldn't find anything but opening by dragging onto the tab bar. I've used a plug-in for firefox for years to open a link in a new tab by dragging the said link to anywhere on the page. Anything like it for Safari?
I can't drag files out of stacks (Downloads or Application folders) or app icons off my dock. I reset my SMC when I rebooted and it worked but then I reboot the next day (today) and it won't work anymore. Do I really have to reset SMC every time I boot up? I recently downgraded from Yosemite because it is incomplete and full of bugs and now I have this issue.Â

I was in the middle of dragging music into a folder and in the midst of it all it would no longer let me drag any file, photo, song or any folder around.
when I open pages, numbers, etc. that when they open they open big? In other words whenever I open a file it always opens small and they I have to drag the lower corner to make it cover the scree,.
Just migrated from older iMac to brand new, though both were updated first. Now I can't see or copy files to desktop, can't drag copy folders to visible external HD on desktop, and can't access my Contact information? I have been using Macs since 1990.
I upgraded to OSi 10.9.3 as my comptuter told me to do-I am very obedient that way. Now the bars on the side of mail and safari that allow one to move the screen up and down-are not there-except for sometimes.. I have looked everwhere in Preferences but I cannot seem to find a setting that relates to this.
anyone notice a delay when u double-click and drag something in bootcamp? it seems like there's a 1-second delay u have to wait for before you can drag a window around.
Sometimes, when i click on a window's title bar, I accidentally pick it up and drag it away without any mouse button pressed. The window moves with the mouse until I click again and then OSX puts it down in a new location. Â
The weird thing is that I don't do anything different to when normally just clicking on a window. It just seems to happen every now and again. I've tried to deliberately reproduce this behaviour and I can't.Â
OSXmust think I've requested that I want to move the window, but I can't find any settings that would make this happen. Â
So Two Questions:Â
1. What would you do to make a window move without keeping a mouse button pressed whilst moving the mouse?
2. Why does OSX think I want to do this when all I do is click on a window to move the focus to it
I am currently using the trial of both programs to find out which I like best. There's two issues though:
- VMWare seems to have a drag lag in unity mode, whenever I drag a window, I can see the background from the windows desktop behind it, it doesn't seem to refresh fast enough. Is there a setting for this? This is on the newest 27 inch i7 imac, so that certainly should be fast enough not to have this kind of annoying problem. Resizing a window also goes somewhat slower than I would expect.
Those that have Windows 7 should know what I'm talking about. You can drag your application windows to the edge of the screen and Windows will automatically resize your window to take up half the screen. You can then do it with another window on the other edge and have 2 50/50 windows open. Anyone know of software that will allow me to do this on my Mac?
I have managed to install virtualbox on my mba 11.6 with win 7 as the guest.
1. The only way I can move from win 7 back to osx is to hold esc and drag the cursor down through the bottom of the win 7 window. Is this how its supposed to work? 2. I have set up a shared folder on osx and set it up on virtualbox but cannot mount it as instructed through the command menu. 3. Virtualbox doesn't recognise my pen drive but osx does. 4. Would it be advantageous to use win 7 lite as I only have 160 hd?
Excuse my asking seemingly simple tasks but I'm struggling with it, and cannot put anything on win 7 until I master it.
Ok so just recently ive been having this weird problem with my magic mouse.
Everytime i hold down the left side of the mouse to drag a window or a file for example, it doesnt seem to actually 'hold on', and instead the cursor just carries on moving around as normal. Occasionally it will 'hold on' for a split second or two, but then lets go and drops the window/file etc i am trying to move, even while i still have the left side of the mouse pressed down.
Anybody have any ideas what this could be?
The mouse is only a few weeks old and ive checked for dirt on the sensor, but it all appears to be clean
Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

I'm trying to rig up a system for work that will allow me to remotely monitor an industrial job site for a few hours each day and control some equipment. I've got the ability setup to remotely control the equipment, but I need a dedicated camera on an engine tach and pump presser gauge. My original plan for a remote camera is not working and time is running short, so I thought I could end up using the new MB I got recently with the integrated webcam, and VNC into the computer. I tried it out today and it seemed to work well except for two things, both related to the display being on.
1) There is no power available so maximizing battery life is a must
2) I was getting a bit of a glare off the gauges from the screen that made viewing a bit difficult.
I think both would be solved if I could run the MB with the screen off, but I don't know if this is possible.
2012 Mac mini with a Thunderbolt display, recently updated to 10.9.3. Normally, it's set to never sleep, but to have the display turn off after 15 minutes with no screen saver. Since the 10.9.3 update, it won't turn off at all. I've tried changing the settings back and forth with no results. I've also gone into Library->Preferences->SystemConfiguration and deleted the PowerManagement.plist file.Â
I can turn the power off with control-shift-eject, but I'd rather it happen automatically. Is there something else new that came along with 10.9.3 that is preventing monitor shutdown?

I knew everything was working fine on my Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz i5, 8gb ram, Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. I loaded up my Mac this morning and tried to open Activity Monitor but wont open. When I drag the application to the dock, there is no icon picture for it. I looked on the internet and it told me to load up Console, which I then found done the same thing.
In Utilities I realised the App 'Podcast Capture' was also missing its icon, but since I do not use that, I am not worried. After looking through google again, I ended up using FirstAid and repaired the disk and permissions. That still made no difference. Finally I then decided I could delete the .plist from preferences, to then find neither of the files for Console and Activity Monitor were there? And I had not deleted them.
Once last thing, in Terminal, every time I open it, it comes up with, bash: /usr/libexec/path_helper: Unknown error: -22
Not sure if this relates to it in anyway? The only thing I know that may have effected it was setting up a Minecraft server which I had to use a chmod a+x (file location). Which I thought gave it the commands. Didn't work anyway, but whilst in the middle of doing that I realised all these other issues.

I lost my second monitor when I upgraded to 10.9.4 from 10.9.2 a few months ago.I went back to OS X 10.9.2 and it works fine right now, but I would like to upgrade to Max OS X 10.9.4Â hoping Apple has fixed the problem.Present infoOS X 10.9.2 (13C1021) 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. Who do I call?

I'm using it for video editing.Â
This happened before when I upgraded last year but now I have the new NVDIA card
So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
In activity monitor it shows that I have 16GB of physical memory, 12.77 GB used memory, 16GB virtual memory.
It also shows App memory 1.9GB, FILE CACHE 9.56GB and wired memory 1.31GB.Â
My question is in regards to file cache at 9.56GB. What is file cache and why is it so high? Does this mean I should install more memory? I looked file cache up and I think it's memory that has been used but is not being used currently, it's waiting to be used again. Not sure if that's right though, or what it really means.Â
I recently bought a monitor to my desktop and a dvi to mini display port cable. It worked fine for a couple of weeks but now it won't connect with it. The monitors little light symbol turns blue for a couple of seconds but then says No signal. In the beginning i just had to shut down my mac, log in go plug it in but now it just won't work.
running a second monitor under Windows Vista 64 Pro on my Mac Pro (Bootcamp)? I'm talking about a standard 'PC' flat screen monitor. Would I have to install the monitor under Mac OS first then under Windows? To be honest I only want it as a second monitor for when I use Flight Sim under Vista. I have never used multiple screen before on any system.
I'm getting my Mac in a week and I would like to know it I can drag files from my Leopard desktop to my Parallels desktop. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have a 13inch MBP running Mavericks 10.9.4 with a 2.7 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB HD. I just recently had the machine Factory Reset. The only APP's I've added are PAGES, NUMBERS and KEYNOTE. When I check the ACTIVITY MONITOR it indicates that out of 16GB of RAM MEMORY, 5.51GB is being used. Usually ACTIVITY MONITOR indicates that as much as 9GB RAM is being used. This MBP is 3 years old and I clearly upgraded the RAM from 4GB (I think) to 16GB. Since this MBP used to run with only 4GB of RAM total; it seems to me that the current amount of memory being used, from 5.51GB up to 9GB out of 16GB total RAM is unusually high. In addition, the above numbers were displayed when only Safari and Activity Monitor are running. Is this normal for Mavericks OSX?

Imac/Mavericks running super-slow for months. Activity Monitor shows "Finder Web Content" is the CPU hog. It also always shows that it's "not responding." Other threads say to quit process, which I do, but it pops right back up. I do use Safari, but Word is closed. Any clues?
I recently upgraded my RAM to 16 GB from the original 4. I notice thru the activity monitor that my current usage is 13.54GB. Is there a way to reduce the active usage of RAM via the activity monitor, or is this not a big deal?Â
