Final Cut Pro X :: Corrupt File Won't Allow Project To Open?
Dec 9, 2014I have been working on a project for school fine until today. When I tried to resize the FCPX layout I got a white screen and then it crashed and I had to force quit it (see image).
Having tried to reopen it I just get the beach ball and have to force quit each time. I have tried other macs in the room and it is the same. Other projects appear to open fine, so it seems that a file with the project might be corrupt? Â
I have attached images of the package contents . The school system is set up so that we have to save on external drives and any work on the mac is wiped as soon as you log out so auto saves are a no-go Â

Dec 8, 2014Everytime I've opened an Excel (Microsoft for Mac 2011) file today it opens as read-only, and the only way I can save changes is by changing the name of the file, which I don't want to do. I did not have this problem last week when working with the same file. I hit command-I -- I'm listed as read & write and then it said Staff (it's just me -- read-only) -- I just switched it to read & write& did the same for Everyone. Yet it still opened (from the Finder) as Read-Only. P

Sep 3, 2014Last night I spent 8 hours downloading a game for my MacBook pro, which is running the latest version of Mavericks. I have the .dmg file on my desktop, but when I double click it nothing happens. I've been trying online for an hour to find a solution, but nothing's worked! The file is 4.4 gigs, but I've opened .dmg files much bigger than that, before.Â

Mar 20, 2010I just recently got my hands on the Kodak Playsport waterproof 1080p shooting mini camcorder. Have pretty much loved the thing until this point.
I responded to a call to a pin-in accident yesterday with this little fellow strapped to my chest on my fire coat. It's the first time I've taken it on a run, and it turned out to be a pretty bad one. I hit record while on the truck enroute. We worked for about 35 minutes extricating the sole passenger, and when all was said and done, I returned to the truck and removed my camera. The record light was still on, the screen still showing a live preview, but the recorded time number had stopped at about 37 minutes. All the controls were unresponsive. Not even the power button worked. After about 5 minutes, I had no choice but to remove the battery to shut the camera off. I turned it back on, and was shown an exclamation point where the video I had just shot was. The video would not play. I removed the 8gb SD card and plugged it directly into my computer, and the file size of the last video shot was only 67MB, not nearly high enough for 37 minutes of 720p @ 60frames per second. I am still unable to get even that fragment to play.
Any ideas on how to either recover more of the movie from the SD card, if it is there (nothing more is shown in the finder, though), or how to get this fragment to play?
I've tried VLC with no luck, and File Juicer, Visualhub and iSquint to no avail.
Thanks guys. If I can get it to play, maybe I'll share the video with the MR community
Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1 Corrupt Project File
Jun 24, 2014I was editing a music video last night and finished the edit. I then began to do my color grading. I use Magic Bullet Looks and was using Neat Video Noise Reducer as well. Nothing out of the norm as far as my workflow goes. I got about half way finished with color and turned my computer off when i went to bed. This morning when i reopened fcpx the project loaded but showed a few spots of the timeline that needed to render (the orange bars). BUt once i clicked inside my timeline fcpx froze and i would have to force quit the program.. I have tried uplugging the drive that the events and projects are saved on and opening fcpx that way..it works and other projects from other drives are working fine but when i plug the drive with the corrupted project it loads the project in the timeline but still freezes every single time i click in the timeline and the render percentage is stuck at 0%....Every once in a while when i try it will render about 9 to 30 % then freeze again..

Mar 27, 2010I've searched extensively on this topic, and I'm pretty sure I am out of luck.However, my perfectly fine pages document from yesterday will not open today. The .xml file seems to be the problem; when I view the package, the index.xml.gz file won't "unzip" to an xml file, and if I just change the file extension, I get a garbled mess. Is there any way I can get the xml.gz file recovered? I am very sad. I will no longer be using pages because I can't trust it. What I have read on the 'net is very discouraging. Yes, yes, backup yes yes all that stuff. However, unless someone has instant simultaneous backup, this kind of thing could still happen - it was just one day, and I don't backup my files every day.

Final Cut Pro X :: Corrupt Video Library And Will No Longer Open It

When I went to reopen it it said it was corrupted and will no longer open in final cut. in fact, it just crashes final cut. I have a video editing business and have hours worth of work in the library.

Aug 24, 2014I have an event file that when selected crashes the app. I don't need it, but cannot select it to delete it.Â
I opened the package contents of the Library and found the offending file, and successfully moved it to my trash. However, it still appears in the event list when I restart FCP X (version 10.1.3). I have attempted to close the library and reopen it, close the app and reopen it, but still it persists.Â
Is there a way to force the library to rebuild itself, or something else that will remove it from the event list? (FYI it appears with a warning triangle).

OS X Mavericks :: Cannot Change Default Program To Open Specific File Type
Jun 2, 2014Whenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously. I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constantly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."Â

OS X Mavericks :: Removing A Corrupt IPhoto Library?
Dec 6, 2014removing a corrupt iPhoto Library.
The file suggests it is 500Gig in size, and no matter what i try i can't delete itÂ
What i have tried
Deleting it through the trash can - system just hangs
Deleting using OmniDiskSweeper, using this app it suggests the file size is 11Gig, but when you ask it to trash it again just hangs
Running disk verify and repair to see if that would resolve the problem
Repair the file by holding down Command and Option while opening in iPhoto - it brought up an error message and would not let me proceed
I have even tried deleting using Terminal with no success, however in saying that i am a beginner using this launguageÂ
At the moment my Mac thinks its occupying 50% of my hard drive space, i know it not that size, but i am at my wits endÂ
Note i am running the latest software, and i no longer require this file

Aug 24, 2009I am trying to install Win 7 through Boot Camp, everytime it gets to installing at 1% I get an error message. Windows cannot installed required files. Files missing or Corrupt 0x80070570. What I've tried:
- Using 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit Windows
- Burning both at low speeds (Disk Utilities and IMGBurn)
- Tried installing XP then doing an upgrade to Win 7, but only have XP Upgrade and eject key doesn't work during installation when prompted for older version verification.
Anyone experinced or heard of this before?

Oct 18, 2010Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
Software :: Unable To Open Encrypted File / Recovering The Original File?
Aug 23, 2009ok trying not to get a panic attack here. I downloaded espionge to encrypt my valuable files and while it was encrypting (AES 128 bit i think) the program froze and I had to Force quit it. Now I try to open my file (that i was trying to encrypt) and it looks f*^&# up. I can't open it, and when I tried to unmount the partially encrypted file, espionage gave me errors that it couldnt recover the original file.
I had basically all my life's valuable accumulated data in that folder (it was 10 Gb+). I will praise anyone to the end of my days that can somehow tell me how to restore my file to its original state. Usefull info:
1) AM planning to pay gazillions for recovery software if need be, but free alternatives are always better.
2) I never secure delete if that helps
3) I still have the .sparseimage for the file created by espionage. (P.S. sparseimage's size looks really close to the orignal, also 10 Gb +).
4) Newest version of OSX, and have an IMac.
5) after incident I haven't done anything (no installations or downloads) apart from writing this.
6) the encrypted file was gonna be in HFS+ i think

Apr 10, 2012I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.Â
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).Â

Aug 27, 2014I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.Â
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.Â
