There's a thread in the macbook pro forum about this (that I bumped) but I didn't realize it was the wrong forum so I'll post here too.Whenever I plug Firewire audio interface into my macbook , even with no programs running and the computer essentially at idle, the CPU temperature quickly rises several degrees and then the fan quickly ramps up to maximum. Nothing appears to be placing the CPU under load at this time (measuring temps and fans with iStat nano). Of course, if I do put the CPU under load, the temps get very hot, 80C
I'm trying to find a gigabit fiber NIC for a powermac g5. The one is found is the Stallion GE-II
[URL]
I've tried a couple other cards that have been lying around, but none of them fit in the two pci slots. The pictures of the Stallion GE-II on the website show that the copper connectors don't match the motherboard PCI.
If it is possible to connect an IMac to a macbook pro and use the mbp's keyboard and screen as an external monitor? The reason is I need the most powerful IMac for the programs I am running, but i love notebook interfaces.
Has anyone tried connecting a WD My Book Studio Edition external hard drive to one computer via USB and to another computer via FireWire 800 simultaneously?
What are the chances that both computers would be able to access the drive simultaneously?
Following upgrading to 10.7.4, both of my Ethernet interface are dead."Unplugged cable" is what the network preferences panel reports.Starting from the Recovery HD the interfaces work.Mac Pro 2 x 266 GHz Intex 6-core 16 GB of Ram.
I need to transcribe audio files and need an application that will play audio files at double their rate (and half their rate) so that I can quickly go through audio files and then concentrate on the pertinent portions. Any applications for Mac OS X? Free is always good!
Bought a new 13" Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display back in June, and ever since I set it up, I've been having issues with mail. Both issues relate to deleting messages, so I figure they're likely related.
First thing is, sometimes when I delete emails, close the program, they magically reappear in my inbox when I reopen mail.
The second thing is, if I close mail right after deleting an email, it gives an error message like 'The message “...” could not be moved to the mailbox “Trash — On My Mac”' and 'An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox “Trash — On My Mac”.
This never happened on my last Macbook Pro, which was the mid-2009 model, even though both laptops run Mavericks. I'm assuming that it's some setting that I'm not aware of causing this issue. I thought it was the fact that my iCloud account was set up to work with Mail, but I turned that off, and it's still doing this.
One of the funny things I've noticed, is that under Mail Activity, it will say "Incoming messages 12 of 48" or whatever number at the time, even when there are no new messages. It never did this on my last laptop.

A few weeks ago I upgraded to 10.9.3, enabled keys function, etc. Since then, I've been having major issues with my computer - there seems to be a hidden user who changes permissions. I get error messages at times saying files are being used by another user or I don't have permission to view some folders under Documents or Library//Application Support that I routinely use.
In Terminal I ran whois on some of the hidden folders this user has on my computer and was able to see various .com / .net addresses associated with the files, which I ran who's to learn more about.
Net / net, I need a command line in Terminal to list hidden users and then delete them. BTW, I've spoken with tech support for hours yesterday and we even erased my hard drive, reinstalled OS X and the hidden users are still there. We've identified it's not a problem with our carrier. things are routinely in my Trash, such as music files I never deleted and other misc. files that even after I Secure Empty Trash, show up again (random plist files, keys, etc.). I deleted a bunch of epubs by bringing up my time machine drive in Finder. I did not delete the epubs through time machine. I now have pointers to the epubs in time machine. How do I delete the pointers.
I got lured by adbait and clicked on a retailer site. Ever since, this retailer's annoying, flashing ads are popping on sidebars on a number of other web sites I routinely use (e.g., NY Times). Eerily, the exact two items I looked at are what are showing up -- presumably to lure me back!
I went into Safari preferences, cookies, details, and found the retailer and deleted. Yet, those ads still appear. Is there something else I need to do? (and yes, I've restarted since then, and gone back and checked, and that retailer does not appear in the list of cookies).
Is there some other malevolent thing they've managed to track on me, other than cookies??
My Macbook Pro desktop is cluttered with icons. How can I clear it without deleting certain items that I might need later on. Where can I transfer them to be safely stored.

Back in March my system crashed. I have a vmware external SSD drive that lost its formatting. Any how, I had been using time machine before it crashed. Now it says my drive is full. Its like its not deleting old backup files. I have a 1 Tb external usb drive that I back up too. I am using OS X Mavericks. Not sure what I am supposed to do to fix it. Cant afford another data crash like that.
I'm wanting to delete a user (non-administrator) account and it has been "... removing user account and directory" for the last 12 hours. I also cannot restart the system because of this message. OS X 10.9.4
I sometimes like to put times (e.g., 10pm) in the titles of my events. I do this because I want to see the time in the event title for certain events. Apple's ical thinks it knows what I want (it doesn't!) and deletes this information from the title, probably to schedule the event at that time, which is ridiculous because I sent the time of the event when I create it. how to turn this function off.

I am planning on buying a device that will allow me to convert cassette tapes to mp3 output. The output interface is usb. Can music be input to a Mac through a usb port?
I am trying to rip my Audio CD's onto my Mac, but I am not able to do that. These CD's were burnt by me when I had the OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion. But when I insert these CD's into my Mac now, they say that it's a blank CD. I'd read an article on Cnet.com that you cannot read the CD's which were burnt in an older OS when you insert the CD when you upgraded to a new OS. They said that you can also try repeatedly inserting and ejecting the CD's.

I have a 13" Retina Macbook Pro and I'm connecting it to 2 Asus monitors that I will be getting soon through thunderbolt to HDMI. The 2 monitors have built in speakers and I would like to have them both pick up the audio from my computer. Is there a way to do that? I know in the preferences I can't choose more than one audio output. Is there perhaps a software that can tweak that? I'm not looking to get a sort of hub that will pick up audio from the audio jack on my laptop because the monitors only have an output jack (green jack) and therefore, I assume, you can't insert audio into them that way.
My 500 GB hard drive is getting full, so I moved my entire ITunes music library (160 GB) to an external hard drive, and then moved the iTunes Media folder to the trash, and deleted it on my Mac. The moved files are playing fine from the external drive.
Surprise!
No disc space was freed up at all, because iTunes (I guess) cleverly backed everything up automatically.
I've tried to find these backup files in order to delete them -- to no avail.
how created an unused network that is showing up on the list of networks in the building. i need to delete it. I went to System Preferences, then Network, then Advanced but the next screen befuddled me as there was no "Wi-Fi".
Using iTunes I converted a mp3 music file to wave and then burnt an audio CD. on a CD-R Everything worked fine. Now the CD plays fine on the any computer but not on my stereo. I am using a MAC OS X 10.9.4. The recording speed was 10X.
