Mar 22, 2012I have a problem on my IMac 27" (early 2010) when I want so listen to some CD. The Superdive doesn't read the disc (is clean of course) and it ejects after a few tried. On the other hand, no problems with DVD. So I don't know if is a software problem.

PowerPC :: G4 Combo Drive Works Fine But Not Eject Properly
Dec 15, 2006I found this iBook in my dad's attic at his business. He said he had bought when they released and planned on using it for financial stuff, but figured his Windows laptop would do better. It was in its box BTW, not collecting dust.
Anyways, it's out of warranty and it's specs are:
1.07 GHz PowerPC G4
768 MB DDR SDRAM
Combo drive
12" screen
30GB HD
The combo drive is not fun. It takes a good push, no shove, into the slot for it to go in. It reads it fine and all, and can burn CD's, but pulling it out is plain horrible. I can't just take it and pull it out, I have to have my dad hold the iBook, and I grab the CD and pull it out. The CD ends up having deep scratches and is unreadable from then on. What do I do? Replace it? Or is it repairable?

I have just purchased my first Apple with a Superdrive, however I find once I have purchased it that you cannot easily Multizone or reset the Multizone software for playing DVD's (nothing about this on the box or sales pitch online). Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to multizone the drive > those of us who have jobs that move us from country to country have a large number of DVD's from the various zones.

Apr 4, 2012I held back from upgrading to LION, but recently installed it in a partition on my MacBook Pro (15 inch, late 2008). The OS is now updated to Lion 10.7.3.Since the instation and upgrade some of my video DVDs are not playing. My DVDs are all Region 2 PAL. I'm based in London, England.Specifically, my Shaun the Sheep collection are not being detected or mounting in the superdrive. Other DVDs are unaffected and play just fine.
I've a second partition on the hard drive with Snow Leopard installed, but when I tried the DVDS on that they no longer worked either though had previously been fine on that OS.Should I stop thiinking of playing them on the MacBook Pro?

Jun 3, 2012My Imac has recently began to show some problems with Dual layers DVDs that I did not experience before. It doesn't burn any DVD9 anymore. Even worse, I can not play any DVD9 I'd burnt on the same drive before, because they are constantly ejected, while before that (till 1-2 months ago) I had no problem with the same discs. With retail dvds or dvd5s (+R or -R). Does it mean that my DVD drive has become defective?

Jun 2, 2012I'm new to using a Mac (and thus the forums), however, I am generally PC literate. I have recently purchased an Elgato eyetv DTT TV tuner stick but for some reason can't get it to work. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips from the manufacturer (including software updates and resetting the PRAMS) but nothing seems to fix it. It keeps coming up with the error message 'Device Not Found In Setup Assistant' and therefore I can't watch any TV with it. The only thing I haven't done is tried plugging my mac directly into the wall, as opposed to the surge protected power board its in (it wont reach my wall powerpoint without great difficulty anyway). The product comes from a Mac authorised seller.
The other product i've been having trouble with is a trickle saver (TrickleStar brand). I connected it all up (including with and without the added trickle switch) but my Mac wouldn't power up. I tried plugging the trickle switch in at the wall, not just the surge protected powerboard (with individual switches) but the Mac still wouldn't power up. The product states that it is PC & Mac compatible. However, i've had NO trouble connecting my Seagate external hard drive. I've also switched around my mouse/keyboard into different USB ports to test that they all work and they are fine.So I'm wondering if these products are made for/compatible with Mac, why doesn't my iMac like them?

Dec 14, 2010Ok so i have an early 2008 Mac Pro, that has been reformatted couple days ago. So when i install my softwares again and i realized some of the DVDs can't be read anymore, the drive just makes a certain sound every 5 secs or so and eventually it just ejects by itself. Now the weird part and the thing i just don't get is why it's only like that for certain DVDs.
For example, i was installing Ableton Suite 8 again, and there are 4 discs. For some reason disc 2-4 work but the Disc 1 doesn't read at all. And i know it's not a problem with the DVDs cause they work on my macbook pro and even my PC. And i tried to burn a copy of that disc 1 into a blank DVD and tried to run that to install and it worked, so it can't be any data issues or whatever with the DVD.
Is this a firmware issue? if so how do i fix this? I thought at first it could just be because i reformatted my mac recently and then this all happened. But i've reformatted my mac several times before and never had this problem. Or this is optical drive just laming out and its time to buy a new one?
But then again why does it work for some DVDs and not for others? It's just BUGGING me ALL DAY.

Sep 23, 2009I have searched this forum and the internet. My number pad on the right side of my keyboard works with everything EXCEPT the calculator. What did I do? cannot find anything anywhere to address just that. The numbers work fine everywhere else.
I did all the jumps to make sure on the system pref and the mouse off, holding my tongue just right and jumping five times...hitting the option key five times, the fn button and the clear button. the number work everywhere but on the calculator.
OS X :: After Working Fine, Suddenly, The Scanner Doesn't Want To Work?
Dec 6, 2009I'm using the printer that came with my Mac when I bought it, last year. (Photosmart C4385 All-In-One)
After working fine, suddenly, the scanner doesn't want to work. Another computer in the house, a HP Desktop seems to work fine, but as far as my far superior Mac, I get a scan error message. this happens in both wireless and connected. The printer is working fine in both wireless and connected methods.
Worse, HP is no longer allowing for on-line support via chat for Mac users! Then when trying to call them, they say that their call centers are not available. It almost seems as if HP doesn't want to hassle with Mac related problems.
Are any of you having similar issues?
Safari :: Unable To Work For Admin User - Fine For Others?
Feb 18, 2012When I open Safari no page opens - I am the administrator. The pull down commands are at the top, but most of them are in gray and don't work, even the quit command. Safari appears to work fine when I log in as a different user. I have done a disk repair and verify and have had no luck. I also downloaded OnyX and did a system clean - still no change. One of the other Apple groups said to empty my cache and last few internet plug ins. None of this has worked. I would like to continue using Safari as I am very comfortable with it.

Jan 3, 2010I have Elgato EyeTV Digital TV Recorder Version 2.5.3 (3313) running under OSX version 10.4.11 and using a Miglia TVMini (TVM01) USB 2.0 DVB-T Digital Video Recorder device.
Recently, (after no software changes except maybe a osx/safari/itunes update, but I can't imagine why this would cause a problem), certain channels now display "No Signal", and when I check the preferences Signal info, these channels have a strength and quality of 0%. This seemed to happen all of a sudden, and I now cannot get the channels working again (despite trying a signal booster, re-scanning all channels) while other receivers (i.e. a TV) seem to work fine from the same input.
A full listing of the channel titles (and numbers) which are displayed as having 0% strength and quality are: Yesterday (12), 4music (18), Film4 (15), Viva (21), Ideal World (22), ITV4 (24), Dave ja vu (35), Big Deal (32), Virgin+1 (35), Create & Craft (36), Rocks & Co (40), Lottery Xtra (45) Russia Today (85), smileTV2 (94), Babestation (96), Babestation2 (99).

Aug 31, 2014I have got a macbook pro and an iPhone5 .. my macbook and my iPhone connected to the same WiFi but for some reason the airplay don't work .. so I tried to use a (cable) goes from the router to the macbook .. and i turned on (sharing internet) so my macbook can become a WiFi .. from that my iPhone is connected to the WiFi (macbook pro WiFi) and the airplay was working fine .. the thing is i don't like the cable idea because my router on the first floor and my macbook on the second floor.. so any one have any tips for me .. by the way i need the airplay because i was streaming using (Reflector)

Sep 17, 2009My friend just got a 1.25GHz MDD but he says he is having problems with it. He says that when he starts it up, his mouse light (sensor) flickers and the keyboard does not work. The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

Sep 12, 2014I haven't been able to send or receive iMessages on my Macbook Pro or my iPad. They do not receive any incoming messages or have the ability to send out any messages. Every time I try to send a message to a phone number REGISTERED WITH IMESSAGE, this error message pops up. Even though iMessage refuses to work on both my iPad and my Macbook, it has been working flawlessly on my iPhone. Every number that I try (and fail) to send an iMessage to on both my iPad and my Macbook, I have been successfully able to send a message to on my iPhone with no problem.
This is what gets me: I have signed in to my Mac and my iPad with several other Apple IDs and iMessage works FINE when there is another Apple ID involved. There is no problem when someone else signs in using their Apple ID. So far, the only thing that has been affected is iMessage. All other aspects of iCloud work great. FaceTime hasn't stopped working once, for example.
I have had two separate cases with Apple Support about this issue. I have brought all my machines to the apple store TWICE, and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Dec 27, 2006Are there any specifics I should know about the second drive bay? I'm planning on buying just a really fast CD-ROM drive to put in there - can I get any ole' one? I noticed that the Apple drive does not have a faceplate - does this mean I have to remove the faceplate from whatever drive I get? Are there drives available that already have no faceplate?
I never used Mac OS X with more than one optical drive - how does opening a drive work? Does the eject button open both drives? One at a time?
MacBook Pro :: Eject Key Doesn't Work?
Dec 8, 2009the eject key on my mbp doesn't work. However, i can still eject CDs and DVDs from my computer by using disk utility and choosing to eject the DVD from there. This is opposed as to pressing the eject button on my keyboard which does nothing other than show the eject symbol on the desktop. The media in the drive also does not show up in finder at all.

The light changes on the drive, and the eject icon disappears, which I interpret to mean the ejection is complete--but when I disconnect the cable, I get a scolding message from OS X saying the device was not properly ejected.
