OS X :: Low Battery Alarm For Macbook?
Feb 3, 2009
I just recently bought a new macbook, and I've been looking for a battery alarm for it. When I'm playing a full screen game, the notification doesn't window me out, so I don't notice it, and my computer powers down. I know it's a simple request, but whenever I try to search for anything I just got iPod/iPhone stuff.

Are there any good apps that sound an alarm when the battery on a MBP is below some set percent? I've only found Battery Monitor, but it doesn't seem to run in the background. Also, it only sounds once, so if you miss it, you're SOL if you forget to plug back in.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some alarm clock software for my mac that requires some sort of puzzle to be solved before it stops the alarm - this would be great to stop me just shutting off the alarm and going back to bed. I'm thinking something like an electronic version of this: [URL]

MBP 15 inch unibody. Just over 1 year old, has been in for service at least twice.First off, let me say that I am not with the box at the moment. Am not a Mac person and am trouble shooting this for my sis. It is her box and she is in a situation where tech support may be minimal and has no access to net.
So, she's at home and drops a file of papers quite hard on the MBP and it restarts on its own. It appears unharmed, no dings or screen problems. Restart is OK and all proceeds normally, she is able to work for several more hours etc etc. Then she packs it up and flies across 12 time zones.Gets in to hotel, gets MBP out and fires it up. While it is doing that, she unpacks and is *not* watching the screen (so we don't know if there was a mac start up sound or any messages). Coming back to it she sees a blue or grey screen, nothing else.
She reboots and this time she does not get the apple sound but instead she gets a beeping noise which appears to happen in time with a flash on the indicator light (the light which is usually "on" or "breathing"). The beeping is rather a low pitch and it is timed at about a second or so. It does not appear to be in any pattern. I heard it over the phone but did not think to ask from where it was coming.I called my Mac friend and he suggested a number of remedies.
Here is what we have tried:
1. Remove battery, try wall power only.
2. Remove wall power, try battery only.
3. Reset PRAM.
4. Safe boot.
None of the above helped.
Have *not* yet tried resetting PMU / SMC by taking out battery and removing wall power and pressing power button for 5 seconds. Have instructed her to do that next. (Time difference means that she is asleep now)While she can probably survive 1 day without the box, she absolutely needs it for the next two weeks. Is doing important training instruction for ministry of health or university or something.

I have had some issues with my macbook pro lately: A few weeks ago, my Macbook started freezing and making alarm sounds. I didn't do anything about it because it happened only a few times per week.
Suddenly it happened 4 or 5 times in a row, and after x times my Macbook wouldn't go past the grey start-up screen (Apple logo loading). So I was unable to login. I solved the ''issue'' by erasing the disk. My Macbook worked again, but all data was gone. The freezing issue was gone as well. But 2 days ago, it started.. again. And today, my Macbook suddenly crashed/shut down. Now, I am not even able to start my macbook. It doesn't show anything, if I press the power button, nothing happens.
I did a SMC reset, and my Macbook worked, but only for 15 minutes. It just happened again. Something is clearly wrong and I don't know what. my Macbook instanly freezed when I connected the power cord. And I think the power cord is broken, last few days it barely charged the Macbook.

I can't create an alarm in Calendar.
It says,"You can’t add or change events in the Birthdays calendar."
All I want to do is create a simple alarm to remind me later today.

I currently use "Alarm Clock 2" as my morning alarm and it's great cause it allows me to choose any song, or audiobook as my morning alarm...however can't choose any films.
I'd love to wake up every morning to one of my files on my Movies folder, or even iTunes movies Folder, or even Podcasts...
How can I achieve this?
I would absolutely love it if I can choose one of my Arrested Development episodes on my movies folder on my Mac to wake me up in the mornings...

My alarm clock broke yesterday, and I figured it'd be cool to just use my Macbook as one. Does anyone know of a good free alarm program that also displays the time on screen?

I'm currently using a fancy app for my alarm clock which makes iTunes start playing whatever playlist I want. But what I'm really after is the ability to have iCal do this so I can setup my alarm clock in there with repeated events, would make life a lot easier. Is there any way this can be done? Preferably in a way whereby when I sync with my iPod then it will make that start playing also (for when it's in an iPod Hi-Fi which it is whenever my laptop isn't left on overnight).

I use iCal on my Mac and sync it to my gmail calendar account, but use gmail as my email program. I often set reminders for meetings/birthdays etc to email me prior to the task occurring, to my email address.
These emails are arriving fine in my gmail account, however each time I open my computer a little pop up box comes up with an iCal alarm, which also forces the mac "mail" program to start the setup guide, asking me to setup my mail program.
Does anyone know why the Mail program setup always starts when an iCal alarm is triggered, but more importantly how I can stop it? Its really really annoying having to cancel it every single day.

I have a new 2009 imac with all latest software. I am running ical 3.0.6 under 10.5.6 at present. How do I easily set up ical to say post a recurring 1 hour meeting each thursday for the next 6 months? I could do this easily in entourage, but find no clues on how to do it on ical in the online help. Also I would like to have default event alarms 24 hours before an event -- ical seems to be limited to 999 minutes before an event. Anyway to increase alarm margin?

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

I get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!
For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

If you look at apple's battery life page it states the MBA battery is removable, I thought it wasn't supposed to be?Battery Lifespan For Apple notebooks with removable batteries ? such as the MacBook, MacBook Air, and 15-inch MacBook Pro ? a properly maintained battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning.
It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery?

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.
The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?

i just ordered a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with the dual GPUs (9400m and 9600m GT) and I'm a little worried about the battery life.
-What can I expect if just doing normal every day stuff (web surfing mostly?)
-does watching a movie off of the hard disk use less battery than watching it off a DVD? Is there a big difference?
I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.
Basically, I'm asking if I made a good purchase considering I have only average concerns for both battery and game performance. They had the new 7 hour battery 15" macbook pro for the same price but it doesn't have the dual GPUs.

been using my older MBP with windows 7 for a while and have never notice oddies with the battery until now. Then recently after replacing the failed HD and re-installing Snow Leopard on my 2007 MBP, the battery panel is telling me "Service Battery"; it's battery health according to coconutBattery is fair for it's age (50%).
the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.
