Mac Pro :: Quad Mac Pro Has Been Having More Frequent Kernal Panics And Is Pretty Random?

Jul 16, 2009

I've been noticing that my early 2008 quad mac pro has been having more frequent kernal panics and is pretty random.I've also noticed that my video card fan(ATI Radeon HD 2600) has been reving up and down and has been more noticeable.Could this be related? Do I need a better card?

PowerPC :: Random Kernal Panics QuadCore G5?

Dec 17, 2009

I've searched, but I haven't found any info on a situation like mine. I have a 2.5ghz Quad Core G5, it is outfitted with 4 gigs of ram and 2 500gb HD's. Everything was purchased in December of 2005. Over the last 8 months or I have been getting random Kernal Panics. Sometimes the machine will be sitting unused for hours and then I'll come back to it and it's locked up. Other times do not seem to have any pattern, it can be with multiple programs open, just safari, or FCP. The machine always starts right back up with no problems and typically continues to operate for hours or days before reoccurring.

I did the hardware check, and everything tested good. I switched to blutooth keyboard and mouse, and have disconnected all USB devices.I don't seen any signs of leakage.I am pretty much to the point that I assume the logicboard is bad. But I don't really know how to confirm this.

Being that the machine always starts back up and never has problems consistently I really don't know what to think. I wish it could be solved with replacing the ram and/or hard drives. But I just don't know how to determine the actual problem. All I have read is a lot of speculation.

Power Mac G5 :: Frequent Kernel Panics Freeze Up?

Dec 18, 2007

I'm using my G5 for both personal use and work so it's on all the time. It has worked flawless with this same hardware config for almost 2 years, but for the past week or so I've had about 4 to 5 kernel panics or complete system freeze a day. This happens when doing web browsing, Final Cut Pro editing, playing a game etc, so basically I can't pinpoint it to a specific application, or to a piece of hardware I've added. I have ran REMBER to test my ram and all seems fine.

OS X :: Frequent Kernel Panics When Playing Games

Nov 21, 2010

As the topic suggests I keep getting kernel panics when playing games on the 9600 m GT (it never happens on the 9400 m). I never have kernel panics when playing left 4 dead 2, but I get them playing left 4 dead 1 and games like WoW and Age of Empires 3. Here is my crash report, and I don't game in bootcamp. Running 10.6.5 on a late 2008 unibody macbook pro. Can anyone tell me from the crash report what's going on?

MacBook Pro :: Frequent Kernel Panics When Waking From Sleep?

Apr 19, 2012

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running the latest iteration of Lion. Recently, the computer has experienced frequent kernel panics (three today alone) requiring the laptop to be restarted. I have noticed that these tend to occur more frequently when I wake the computer after letting the battery drain down to near or below ten percent of its capacity and subsequently plugging it in after it goes to sleep.

The only other clue I have is that every time the computer experiences a kernel panic and restarts, Spotlight re-indexes my hard drive (i.e., the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right-hand corner of my screen has the little blinking red dot inside of it).

I have read a couple of things on the internet about how this may be due to Symantec Anti-Virus, which I have installed on my computer. However, that is pure speculation on my part based on a random post on a non-Apple-sponsored discussion board somewhere.

MacBook Pro :: Has Frequent Kernel Panics And Blue Screens On Startup

Sep 1, 2014

My friend has been having trouble with his 15 inch, early 2011 macbook pro. He is running OS X 10.9.4

It seems to work great until he streams media or connects to his school email.

I've taken a picture of what the screen looks like when it last froze while he checked his email:

Shortly after this, he had trouble booting the macbook back up. He would see either a blue screen with light and dark blue vertical lines. He would also boot up the computer and it would be stuck on the white loading screen without the apple logo.

I also have the console logs for the past few bootups:

OS X :: G5 Quad Frequent Kernel Panic

Nov 26, 2008

I recently upgraded to OS 10.5 on two desktops. The PowerMac Intel works fine. The G5 Quad seems to be having weekly kernel panics and frequent software crashes (an example yesterday: Word and Safari were open. After a few minutes of no keyboard input whilst reading a webpage, Word crashed, followed by Safari). Running Maya seems to cause the kernel panics. It did so, once in a while, on OX 10.4, but with 10.5 it's become a frequent occurrence. Calling Apple (still on Applecare) doesn't help. They run some diagnostics and can't pinpoint anything. Clearly if they don't recognize the problem, they can't fix it. (I also run Maya on the PowerMac Intel with no problems, so Maya isn't the problem.)

Realplayer, streaming, has been playing during some of these occurrences — is this a known culprit? Any suggestions? Was the G5 Quad just a bad model? Can I turn off whatever causes the kernel panic alerts that freeze my computer? Should I be demanding more out of Applecare — is there anything I should expect them to replace? Should I downgrade to OS 10.4? If so, how do I do this? Many questions I know...

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Frequent Kernel Panics Seem To Happen Primarily When Using Adobe Premiere Pro

May 28, 2012

I seem to be having constant kernel panics when using my 2011 iMac (OS X 10.7.4), they seem to happen primarily when using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and happen from about 5 minutes of using the program to about 30. Even if I am not using adobe though the kernel panic still happens after about 30 minutes. I uninstalled Adobe and all seemed fine, so I attempted to reinstall it, but part way through the process it kernel panic's again. I was wondering if it could be when I am doing stuff on system intensive programs, so I tried running a game of Civ V, and that didn't seem to have any problems.

MacBook Pro :: Random And Frequent 10.6.2 Freezes Or Spinning Wheels Of Hell

Dec 13, 2009

For a few days now, my 13" MBP (purchased in August; painfully clean-install upgraded to Snow Leopard in October) has been freezing into spinning wheel mode randomly every few minutes. It would seem that this happens particularly often in web browsers (but also when no browsers are operating and I'm typing away in Text Edit or chatting in Adium and Skype). When the browsers are on, the FlashPlayer would occasionally crash. No matter what app froze first, whatever else I click on also freezes.

The freezes happen most frequently after the computer has been to sleep and woken up by opening the lid. The wheels go spinning for up to two minutes, and then everything goes back to normal (for up to 3 mins before freezing again). The longer the comp operates after that, the rarer they become, and after a few hours they rarely happen at all (then again, some times they do anyway). On some occasions, everything freezes so badly I need to hard-reset, and then it takes the comp upwards of 15 minutes to reboot - and then everything keeps freezing, of course. Contrary to other reports of similar problems here, no CPU jumps appear to be happening during the freeze. I tried:

- Running Disk Utility after booting from Snow Leopard . Some permissions (which in forums here were referred to as inconsequential / not related to freezes) were repaired; HD in general "seems to be ok."

- Running RAM tests (with Rember, supposedly updated to Snow Leopard). Everything seemed fine

- Getting rid of the ARD agent (which was related to some of the permissions mentioned earlier)

- Stopping Bluetooth (as someone here with a similar problem thought it helped)

- Installing the Beta Adobe Flash Reader (same as above)

Nothing helped. I really don't want to take it to the lab; I live in Israel and the comp was purchased in the States, which means that the only licensed lab here reserves the right to keep the comp for up to 26 working days

OS X :: Kernel Panics And Random Crashes On 09 Macbook Pro?

Nov 13, 2009

I got a new macbook pro a week ago. The first time I shut the machine down it experienced a kernel panic right after I selected to shut down the computer. Programs randomly crash while I am using the computer. The apple store said that crashes are most likely due to CS3 because it was not properly updated for the system, so they installed the CS3 updates. The next time I used the machine after installing CS3 updates, it experienced another kernel panic upon shut down. I would like to hear about known issues with the Summer 09 macbooks. I am trying to determine if this is a hardware, software, or an OS issue.

Safari :: Its Causing Kernel Panics And Random Shutdowns And Overheating?

May 11, 2012

However Safari is causing all kinds of hangs restarts kernal panics overheating with my machine and yet if I use google chrome for the exact same web sites these same problems are not present.  I much prefer to be able to keep using safari and I realise that I haev not got the most up to date software since Lion is not supported on my machine but it is as up todate as snow leaopard allows.

I also realize that a more than 5 year old machine is doing very well especially since it is rarely off. It has outlasted 2 timecapsules and countless airport express but the anomyly between 2 browsers is weird. I doubt this has a solution but maybe the odd apple tech who read this might find it a challenge to know why one browser causes heart issues but another doesn't.

OS X :: Late 06 Macbook / Freezing, Random Restarts, Kernel Panics, Running Hot?

Oct 5, 2009

my late 2006 macbook running 10.4.11 has been acting very strange since yesterday. first, it freezes while i'm recording something off of isight and i have to restart. works fine for 30 minutes until it randomly restarts (probably due to heat) and takes me two reboots and some time to fix it (i have to put an ice pack to keep it cool). then later in the night, it randomly restarts again and takes two reboots to get it back. then in the past hour, the screen has frozen, it went into a kernel panic and it randomly restarted again while i was trying to post this the first time. and also, it's been running very hot despite having no applications running.

Mac Pro :: Can Fit Pretty Much Any Graphics Card?

Mar 4, 2008

Can you fit pretty much any graphics card into a mac pro? (Im new to mac so sorry if thats basic) Also say the card only worked with windows, if I plugged in a card and booted to windows would the card run that way? Reason I ask is that some of the work I do requires running high end games but I hate vista and have always wanted a mac. Im fine with dual booting if I have to but I was hoping that high end graphics cards would work on the mac pro so I dont have to buy two machines.

It was SO fast. So, my question is this:Is the only true way to get speedy again to reformat and basically start again? What is it that I've restored that keeps me slow?

MacBook :: Hard Drive Making Clicking Noise / Fan Is Pretty Loud?

Sep 26, 2010

I am so upset right now, this is my 2nd macbook with this problem. I just got this macbook yesterday and the hard drive is making a clicking noise, but it isn't a click....click...click... like a lot of people have had, it's actually more of a quick series of clicks every few seconds, almost like the hard drive is shaking. It goes away for a bit when I am typing, like right now, but after I stop it comes right back.

Also the fan is pretty loud, considering I haven't put anything on the computer yet.. I've already been to the genius bar and all they did was give me a new, worse macbook, so there is no way I'm going back. Are there any fixes for a noisy hard drive aside from voiding my warranty and putting my own in? If it is normal, I might just invest in a good pair on noise cancelling head phones... Thanks!
