I've had it I've gotten twenty kernal errors. After some perusing of the forums I learned this is not a normal thing, which makes me hate it even more. I haven't altered the hardware on my computer at all.

My computer keeps freezing and applications keep shutting down unexpectantly. So when I went into the activity monitor I saw that Kernal_task and inkjet1 seem to be taking up the most CPU, threads, and memory. What are they? How can I make my computer more efficient? Are these processess causing my computer to be so slow and freezy?

I have been experiencing the fan running at high rpm and the computer completely slowing down when there is slight pressure applied to the bottom of my macbook pro. I went on Activity Monitor and it shows kernel_task running at over 100% cpu usage. I have already tried resetting PRAM and SMC but those did not work.

I have a late 2008 macbook unibody. The computer won't go into sleep mode with the lid closed or if I hit the power button. i have to manually do it with the apple icon in the top of the screen.
The ambient light that blinks while in sleep doesn't light up when I do this either. Its been like this ever since Lion, Mountain Lion and now Mavericks. I've done a clean install of Maverick on a brand new HDD. No change.Â
I have modified the computer since I've owned it. Upgraded from the OEM 2GB of memory to 4GB which is the max for my model. It didn't come with the illuminated keyboard so I bought the backlit one and installed. I also had to swap the motherboard to do this since my original did not have the backlight connector.
Note the old motherboard also had the same problem with the computer not going into sleep. So I don't believe its a hardware issue. (yes I plugged everything in and seated everything in a appropriate manner, I build custom PC's for friends all the time so what to do and what not to do).Â
I have checked my sharing preferences and they're all unchecked as this is a fresh install of mavericks. Everything else is all set to system defaults.Â

I had my first leopard problem on my 1.67 15" powerbook last night. I lost bluetooth so I restarted, I went to the activity monitor and there was a kernel task eating up 152 mb of my ram. All updates are current and I have 2gb of ram. Any ideas as to what this action is doing. I also have a dual 2.4 g5 with 3.5 gb of ram(but no kernel task issues).

I've noticed this on my MacBook Air and also on a friends MacBook so it is in no way unique to this model. In Photo Booth both models seem unable to render the effects at a moderately respectable FPS and fluidity is severely impinged. This is especially noticed when keying the background out and recording video from that. It seems to bring the MBA to it's knees! How can such a novelty application have such a drain on system resources? You would think Apple would have designed the application in mind of the constraints of these models. The MBA isn't especially cheap and if potential customers are seeing it failing to render a novelty webcam application properly I don't think they are going to be particularly impressed.
I'm not particularly impressed and I've bought one. Performance in Photoshop and Illustrator is exquisite, I haven't had any problems and filters etc can be applied quickly. Photo Booth is the one application that I have noticed the MBA struggle to perform in the past week I have been using it. The iSight camera seems to be of a lower quality than for instance the MacBook due to apparent high levels of noise. iSight camera live footage appears to lag behind by about 1 second in Photo Booth and by about 3 seconds in iMovie. The Intel GMA X3100 has proved to be great in rendering streaming Quicktime H.264 720p media from the Quicktime HD Gallery but unable to work Photo Booth properly?

I have a Black Macbook. 2.2ghz, 1GB Ram, running Snow Leopard. Recently I've been finding my laptop rather sluggish and slow when performing tasks and opening applications. Firefox will often be quite slow at performing mundane tasks as well as flicking between applications that are open which is also slow. I use a couple of apps to help clear out unnecessary files etc to help with performance and stuff but clearly this doesn't appear to be working.

Product name: Macbook pro 13-inch
Processor speed: 2.5 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Storage capacity: 500 GB
Software: OS X 10.9.4 Â
In the memory tab in activity monitor, it shows kernel_task which takes up 440 MB. It takes a huge amount of my memory. Also, my macbook pro is running down. I believe that one of the reason for this is kernel task. How do I fix this?Â

Over the last week I've had 2 of what I have now discovered are called "kernal panics". I've had this SR 2.2 for about a year and a half. I had one prior to installing SL last week 1 this week after installing SL. Other than the "You must restart your computer" message following the crash I've not noticed any other problems. I have not installed any RAM or other hardware. I've pasted the kernal panic report with the hope that someone might be able to help decipher what it means and what the issue might be.

I've written recently about my kernal panics on my imac g5 I reinstalled the original software and moved on to Tiger and it says "cannot install this on this computer" I have installed it before, it is my software bought free and clear. I don't know what to do. My son's college papers are due and we cannot get on the sites because our flash/etc. is not updated. I am now at 10.3.9 (I go to "about this mac", more info, and my system overview app will bounce on my tool bar and not come up.) I dont know what's going on. My hardware tests all came out clean.

I'm having them 2 to 3 times per day. In my limited research, I know it can be related to memory and I am in the process of pulling out pair by pair to isolate which one may be causing it, but no luck as of yet. Or is it related to something in the operating system. Below is the kernal panic report. [code]

I am having serious issues with my Apple PowerPC G5.. Its the 2.5 Dual Processor version of early 2005 running os x 10.5.8, i have installed; 2x500gb hds along with 4.5gb of ram... Ok now heres the problem, yesterday i came across an app called "CHUD" this apparantly was developed to help speed up an OS X system, so i downlaoded and began to install the parts to the app suite, after installing 1 or 2 of the CHUD apps i came to Reggie SE, i doubled clicked on the install then my G5 decided to freeze, completley! I tried Force Quit and nothing happended, the system would not respond what so ever, so i left it for 30mins or so to see if it would figure itself out and it didnt so i had no alternative but to cut the power and reboot....
Now, after reboot, my G5 will boot up to the User login dialogue, once i enter my password the dialogue accepts my password and dissapears (astho it is logging into my account) but then the screen turns Blue and the system returns to the Username & Password dialogue box..... Also the fans within my system begin to speed up and dont stop for a while, almost sounds like my G5 Tower is about to take off!

I am pretty sure I have just maxed out the space for start up. I can't get past the message box that pops up and says you need to shut down your computer in 4 languages. I so hope this isn't the logic board.
I tried restarting and holding down command option p r and command option n o and unplugging the power cord from the back and plugging it in as I press the start up button. then release the start up button and press again. I cant get past to free up the space or use disk utility. Do I start it from the start up disk holding down the c key and do a reinstall?

I've searched, but I haven't found any info on a situation like mine. I have a 2.5ghz Quad Core G5, it is outfitted with 4 gigs of ram and 2 500gb HD's. Everything was purchased in December of 2005. Over the last 8 months or I have been getting random Kernal Panics. Sometimes the machine will be sitting unused for hours and then I'll come back to it and it's locked up. Other times do not seem to have any pattern, it can be with multiple programs open, just safari, or FCP. The machine always starts right back up with no problems and typically continues to operate for hours or days before reoccurring.
I did the hardware check, and everything tested good. I switched to blutooth keyboard and mouse, and have disconnected all USB devices.I don't seen any signs of leakage.I am pretty much to the point that I assume the logicboard is bad. But I don't really know how to confirm this.
Being that the machine always starts back up and never has problems consistently I really don't know what to think. I wish it could be solved with replacing the ram and/or hard drives. But I just don't know how to determine the actual problem. All I have read is a lot of speculation.
