View 1 RepliesI am toying with switching my kids laptops to apple from windows. I bought a Macbook it has OSX 10.5.7. I don't want to have to count on my kids to switch every application to print in Greyscale (black and white). Where do I go to set this so that any printing they do from their account is in black and white by default? This is easy to do in Windows. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do it in OSX. This is shaping up to be a dealbreaker, unless I'm just missing something.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've looked all over; the only thing support can tell me is "it depends on what brand you buy." Anyways, I have a color laser printer. Works great, but most of the time I'm just printing materials off the internet and some documents for work. Therefore I do not need it to be printing in full blown color. Especially not for sites where the author decided to use dark purple or blue text (or some other color from which I can't tell from a glance that it's not black). Right now the only way to do this to manually go into the printing preferences each time to choose B&W only. Likewise, I also have to go and check the Duplex box manually. All this is very tedious when you have do it every time. Can anyone provide some insight into making this easier? Maybe how to set the default preferences so they can be used each time?

I was tinkering with the settings on the Audio MIDI Setup (in the Utilities folder) on my 21.5" iMac but I cannot remember what the default settings are supposed to be. If I remember correctly, I think the Format should be 44100.0Hz and 2ch-24bit for the Built-in Microphone, Built-in input, and Built-in Output.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering what the default Audio MIDI Setup values are supposed to be on for the internal speakers on the new 21.5" iMac. This is what I currently have at the moment.
I was hoping someone could do a quick check of their own settings and let me know. Is there any reason to or difference to have the Hz at 44,100 or Bits to 24?
My brother is going to start school in June for Film. He is all set to buy a Mac and knows the software side of things but not so much the Hardware side.
I have a few questions:
1. Should extra hard drives be bought third party?
2. Should he do a raid setup for backups?
3. How much memory should he buy for Final Cut operations? (third party)
4. Should he look into getting a Dell monitor instead of Apple? What is a comparable Dell monitor?
5. 4-Core or 8-Core?
6. Any other knowledgeable Mac Pro buying advice
I am trying to setup a firefighter's apple laptop into our linksys net at firestation. She got access fine when we did not have it secured but now we setup a wep key. All other members can get in by entering wep key when they choose the wireless router but when we input the wep key to apple laptop airport I think we get connection error. Key is definitely right. What changed in the apple setup other than the wep key, again when signal was unsecure laptop safari worked fine. The linksys is a B about 3 years old.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded my laptop to Windows Vista and I am beginning to get everything back onto the computer after a fresh install. I am now attempting to setting up the shared printers that I have on an eMac and an iMac (both are 10.4.9). I got the file sharing to work between all 3 computers. In XP, I used Bonjour and that was it. I used Bonjour and it found both printers, but it said that it could not find printer drivers. Does anyone know how to get this vista computer printing?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a Aluminium MacBook and for about a month or so it has been sharing files with my XP desktop PC easily. So I decided that I wanted to print wirelessly to my printer (which is connected to my XP PC via USB) from my MacBook. When I set up the printer, it finds it and everything, so i go to Word and try and print a Word Document. On the jobs manager on my XP PC, it says the document name is: 'Remote Downlevel Document' and it says spooling, printing, the either sits there forever or just vanishes. My Printer is a Canon PIXMA iP1800.

I'm using a canon isensys LBP7750 with UFR ii driver. I read in the printer utility help desk that it may not work with Adobe reader v 6.0. I have downloaded the most recent printer drivers and Adobe software. I tried running PostScript but the printer just keeps pausing.

I was just wondering if the following is possible.
So I have a new macbook and a personal PC, both connected to a wireless internet network (with a D-Link Router).
There's a printer connected to my PC and I would like to know if it was possible to acces my PC through the internet and print files on it from my Macbook.
I hope I explained it good enough?
Have used AppleWorks 6 for years - used for spreadsheet application. Range of sheet: A80 thru AG 80. Printing on Canon MX850 requires 2 (two) pages to legibly cover contents. Was told by Apple Tech to use "Numbers" application as found in Snow Leopard for future tech support, as AppleWorks is no longer recognized by Apple. Same spreadsheet was copied from AppleWorks to "Numbers". When asked to print, 48 (forty-eight) pages would be required! Apple Tech was unable to solve problem, after a one-hour telephone call with Level 2 Support.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy prof posts many x-rays in his pdf files which I need to print for class. However the black background of all these images is killing my ink supply. Is there any way I can print these pdf files without their black background? I don't see any such options in Preview, but I do have access to CS5 Design Premium if perhaps someone knows a technique through one of the programs in there.

I already have my monitor calibrated to more-or-less match online photo labs that I use through Flickr. However, I just bought a HP C7280 and all my pictures seem to come out very low on the magenta/red side. Rather than having to either recalibrate my monitor and edit all the thousands of pictures I have to warm them up, is there any way that I can just calibrate the printer to print a bit 'redder'?

I've had my iMac for a few months now and the printing has always annoyed me. Even though I've set the default page size to US Letter in the Printers and Faxes System Preferences, when I try and print from Safari it always initially sets it up in a 12x12 size! Also, when I try and print out soemting from a website the text or whatever else doesn't fit on the page.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a used Mac Mini (2.0GHz, 4GB Ram-seller bought in July '09) this last week. It has Snow Leopard (10.6.1). It started off with trying to install my HP printer that is shared out on a Windows XP machine. Originally when I turned on the Mini, I could see all the Windows machines (two Vista and one XP) machines on my WIFI network. I used the printer & fax function in system preference to add the printer (I could see it in the list under Windows). I sent over a couple print jobs, Mac shows it is gone, Windows machine shows the job in the printer Queue. Eventually the job simply goes away after 1-2 minutes with nothing coming out.
