MacBook :: Limited VGA Resolution?
Mar 7, 2009
I purchased the VGA adapter for my aluminum MacBook, and am not satisfied with the resolution output to my HDTV.
Perhaps I was naive to think a VGA connection would be satisfactory! My problem is that that the resolution just isn't pleasing and I am not able to get a 16X9 aspect ratio to my HDTV.
Do I need to go MiniDVI to HDMI, and will this give me a 16x9 output to my HDTV?

For example, on the Apple website, it says the Macbook supports a number of resolutions, but none of them are my TV's native resolution (1920x1080). Will my TV accept a lower resolution or can the Mac go up to 1080p?

1440x900 resolution of the new MacBook Air 13.3" screen is simply too high, making everything way too small and straining on my eyes. Is there a replacement LED LCD panel with a lower resolution (1280x800 like the old MBA) that could be retrofitted?

It is clear there are people who love their high-res antiglare display; the ability to have more pallets open in Photoshop, see more of what you are doing in Logic. However, there is a fair few of us who dislike the high-res because of decreased fonts, smaller graphical interface things.if you had the choice to go for a high-res or normal res antiglare 15", what would you go for?

i am using a hackintosh for a week now. I am using it just to get used to Mac OS X because i am switching to a Macbook Pro in a couple months. I switched from PC to Mac officially now. OK, let's come to the main topic of this thread;-At first, my hackintosh couldn't get my gfx card, i couldn't find the driver(kext) so my resolution was very bad. Everything was huge and blurry. I couldn't even look at my 17" Samsung LCD screen. I made an entry to file which was something like this

Who has actually played games on BOTH the 2010 high res and standard res macbook pros?Reading through that gaming benchmark thread isn't much of an indicator as most people don't post their resolution and if they have they have only played on one or the other.Im trying to get a better indicator on the performance difference with newer games. Are we talking 2-6 fps drop or 10-20 or more?

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.
I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

I have the 2.2 blacbook, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd. Now when I first bought my macbook, I did not use Illustrator or Photoshop CS3 (for both). Now 1.5 years in, I am using Illustrator and I noticed that when I am working on both (either at the same time, or with one program closed) I sometime get the message in Illustrator "Not enough memory" or "Not enough ram" or when I am saving an image for web and devices "an unknown error has occurred"
BUT if I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS3 (for both) on Vista via bootcamp none of these errors occur. I just don't want to imaging what will happen when I use CS4. Is this due to the way Leopard is setup? I am also looking to upgrade...So do you guys think the new macbook or macbook pros would be better? I mean, my current macbook is holding up well...but I just hate these errors. I prefer to work in Leopard than Vista.

I have a rev B MBA, which is gorgeous but I have found myself using it less than any other Laptop I've ever had and it is simply due to two reasons:
- Heat, pretty much anything except simple browsing raise the heat
- Battery time, simply lousy (including charge time)
Have had it for a while, 14 months, but at this point I have started looking at the 13 and 15 inch versions as replacements down the road. I thought it would make a great compliment to the imac but due to the limitations above I use it less and less. If only they had added a fraction of an inch of thickness to allow better heat handling and more battery.

The MBP has one expresscard slot. So if you use an eSata adapter (even if it has dual eSATA ports) it would only have one eSATA channel And that would be limited further by the express card slot and more still by the type of card (make, model, etc..). My question is: with Barefeats claiming even the best eSATA card for a MBP being 200MB/s (even if you claim less) using a dual eSATA RAID connection for a stripped array would be limited to 100MB/s per port. Is this correct? Because I'm trying to understand this to see if it's worth building a RAID setup for my MBP when I'm home.
I've asked this numorous times and get helpful advice but not addressng this specific and fundamental fact. I am not interested in FW800 because I want the fastest I can get but want it to make sense. I would also reask my other questions about my situation but this question comes first.

1) Having a difficult time finding anything good on this. Anyone got direct comparison pics between the two on the 15"?2) Also how much brighter are the mid-2010 15" displays compared with the late-08 15" displays? IIRC the 2009 screens got a wider color gamut and more brightness than the original unibody screens.

How does the Antiglare screen look? Does it look cheap and flimsy like the matte screens on the pc laptops? This is my first Mac and i'm looking at going all out and getting the top of the line 15". I know I definitely want the HD screen, i'm just not sure which screen looks better. What about a 5400 vs 7200 rpm hdd? Is this upgrade worth it?

Ok, here's what I have:MacBookPro 15"85 GB hard drive2 GB RAM139 GB of photos on the hard driveExternal hard drives:128 GB drive that contains old PC files (including about 30 GB of photos not currently in iPhoto library)500 GB portable WD hard drive for Time Machine backups (188 GB free)1 TB brand new Seagate Expansion desktop hard drive, totally freshThe problem:Finder says I have 1.8 GB of free space on my hard drive. I have to do something about these 139 GB of photos. I access them more than anything but my HD is so clogged that things are not saving well. Even iPhoto library tells me it can't save changes, and I am just trying to delete photos! I am thinking of running my iPhoto Library off of an external hard drive. Do I even have enough memory to transfer it? Should I just upgrade my internal hard drive and use the externals for backups? What would you do at this point? I want to eventually install Photoshop and Lightroom. Just bought Photoshop Elements 9 and hope to use it with iPhoto. How do I put all these hard drives to good use?

I have a G3 BW, 400mhz, 1gb ram. I would like to add wireless since it's away from a wired connection. Am I limited to the Mac-compatible pci cards? I have panther OS on it and can upgrade to tiger but hear that it runs best in panther so I'll wait. I've seen some drivers that you can buy which will make a select number of non-mac wireless pci cards work, but not really sure how well these function - Thoughts? Experience?. Plus I don't want to sink a ton of money in it, it's running very well now, actually quite well. I hope to spend less than $30 for a used or new wireless b-g pci card if possible. Does anyone have any budget cards that they are using sucessfully? B, G wireless specs are fine, I don't have N.

Ive been calling comcast over and over telling them that they have been throttling my internet's upload speed to the mid 40kbps range and they tell me no they havent. Finally they have been exposed in the past week, but they claim it is only to bit torrent traffic. This is not the case. I cant video chat for more than a minute or two before my internet gets throttled and the other person cant see me. The same goes for file transfers to a remote server for my graphic design stuff. Does anyone know a work around for this? Maybe changing the outgoing ports for iChat?

I've never noticed this previously but as I was moving files around this morning I noticed that I was not moving all the files in a folder, only 128 of them at a time.
The workflow is as follows: select folder in Finder, click on a file, cmd-A to select all, cmd-c to copy them, select other folder, cmd-v.
Instead of 374 files moving, only 128 do.

Currently, we live in a manufactured home that is about 80 feet in length. The master bedroom, where the computer (mac mini) is set up on one side of the house, and the kids' bedroom with their computer, is on the other side of the house. Right now, I have the airport express in the master bedroom which is where the dedicated cable internet line is. I have tried using a bridge from work on the kids computer (as it doesn't have a pci wireless card in it---yes, a PC), but there is just no signal. I have tested the signal strength with my iphone and it drops past the front door (which is halfway). So, I have read to solve this problem, is to purchase another express and put it at a halfway point (to be an extender). OK, fine, that makes sense. The express I have in the master bedroom is an older model (G) and the new one that I will purchase will be an (N). Will they communicate okay?
I would like to set up a playlist/folder with my girls' music in it. I have the music on my current setup in the master bedroom and is able to be streamed to the living room with my appletv (love that thing). I would like to install iTunes on their PC and have it see my iTunes library from across the house; but ONLY this particular playlist/folder that I set up with the girls' music in it.

I have windows xp sp3 and while playing my game, the internet keeps disconnecting about every 5 minutes. Then a bubble comes up and says, "Limited or no connectivity" and I have no internet. So I have to disconnect and connect again to get another 5 minutes before it does it again. The modem I have is this: Verizon GT704WG Wireless DSL Modem/Router To narrow the problem down I went to another house with another wireless and it worked without any problem there.

I has made a Automator app that make jpeg images to a pdf.For decrease pdf file size, I added automator task "Scale Images" and set "To Size (pixels)" to "960".
Then run Automator, the task seemed to be proceeding smoothly until 180 files.
But the task has not finished after ten minutes. The status icon was still in process "Scale Images (5/6)".
I stopped the app and try again. I have the same result. Nothing changed with the 181th jpeg file in Finder. Does "Scale Images" has limitation less than 180 files?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Samsung P2450H 24" monitor, but I'm not sure what cable(s) I need to connect it to my MacBook Pro (April 2010).
I want to be able to max out on the resolution so that I can use it in Full HD.
Do I need a mini displayport -> DVI, then DVI -> HDMI? Or is the process simpler than that?
