Ichat is working fine but each time I want to send something, a file, it says: waiting for reply (accept) and when my friend accepts, nothing happens ! I've tried on many friends and they all use ichat with a gmail account (like me). Maybe it's because i'm doing it in France ? I use english ichat while they are using french ichat. I use a macbook and they use the imacs. we all use leopard.
I've just got a new Macbook. I'm trying to transfer some files from one computer to the next. I get the box asking for me to accept and it looks like it's transfering the files. But nothing happens. It just does that forever with nothing being transferred. Is there a setting I'm missing? Also, is it possible to transfer folders? In the past I could only do single files at a time.
While copying files from my digital camera xD card onto my mini, the Card reader un-mounted itself and remounted its self several times, I have no idea why...Now I have a load of 0Kb files in the folder where I was copying to. I can delete these, but they come up with a "file in use" error message so I need to click for each file to be deleted... ~350 left I did try a restart thinking that may clear up any "pending" file transfers from the system to allow them to be deleted like a normal file
My iChat refuses to open. Every time I click on it to open it it will not open at all and a window will come up saying "The application iChat quit unexpectedly". How can i get my iChat to open and is someone or something hacking into my computer?
I have an OS X Server 10.6 setup with iChat and it works perfectly. This Mac is connected directly to the WWW, no firewall. I have an OS X Server 10.7 setup with iChat and it works perfectly EXCEPT for File Transfers This Mac is connected directly to the WWW, with a Netgear FVS336Gv2.I have opened all the correct ports for TCP & UDP and mapped them to my OSX Server 10.7 at 192.168.2.100
why should JUST file transfers do not work? This iChat OSX Server 10.7 is setup for people on the same server, using the same domain. File Transfer in iChat WORKS on the internal network OK?File Transfer in iChat DOESN'T WORK on external network?
I have a 17gb movie that I had to complete for school and finished it at home on my PC, now I have to transfer the 17gb thing from home to school. Names of any Portable HD's that work between both OS? Willing to spend money if that helps I just have to drop the file onto the mac so i can sumbit it, So would NTFS work?
I am planning on getting a new mac, however I have transfer them without my old mac. I have all the external hard drive space I need. But whats the best way to backup then restore my files on my new mac? I have a Time Machine backup, but I don't want an 'old system files' folder, I want it to be a straight transfer is possible.
I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.
I was copying some music over from a CD onto my computer and I can listen to it all on itunes but it still says it's copying over. I can't eject the CD because it says it's still in use! What do I do to make this stupid transfer box go away!?
my better half is moving from a 17" macbook pro to a 24" iMac. I did the data migration (used the network. we don't own a firewire cable) for her user account and files, she is still using parallels v3.0, and during the migration the 19 GB parallels volume file didn't transfer properly? so after a successful migration (other than the above) I went back to her 17" macbook pro, ran parallels successfully, compressed the parallels volume, ran parallels again successfully on the 17", then moved the volume file over the network to the 24" iMac, again the parallels program on the 24" iMac (which was just migrated from the 17") reports the parallels volume file is corrupted? what/where should I look for an answer on this one?
I am transferring a folder of files from my MacBook Pro to my MacBook over wi-fi (Time Capsule / 802.11n network). Total folder size is 1.41 GB, and Finder is telling me it will take about 30 minutes (down from an initial estimate of 2 hours, which quickly dropped to an hour, then 48 minutes a couple minutes later).
The transfer rate is roughly .5MB every 1.5s or so in real time. . .is this about right, or do I have something set up very wrong?
These are two Macs, connecting to each other over a Time Capsule network (wirelessly); I have file sharing and Back-to-my-Mac turned on on both of them.
I backed up files from my Toshiba PC not long before it crashed. This backup was done to a WD MyBook external hard drive. Now i need to work out how to download these files to my new Macbook Air, as they are on the hard drive in PC format.
Info: MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have a Panasonic VS3 phone (No bluetooth) and today I bought a USB cable to connect it to my Macbook for transferring ringtones etc. But the CD that came with it only has PC drivers on it. I've been searching all day for a solution but I can't seem to find anything. I downloaded Bitpim but it didn't recognise the phone.
I used the migration assistant to transfer fils from my Windows pc to my new MacBook Pro, but the transferred files only show up in a new user created by the assistant I supose and I cannot access them from my user account.how to transfer them to my user account or access them from my user account?
I have just bought s 15" retina display MacBook Pro so am running 10.7.4.
My previous Macbook Pro is 5 years old and running 10.5.8.
How do I transfer files - in particular photos and iTunes stuff. Migration assistant does not work - it just spends hours looking for other computers. I could not get hold of a Thunderbolt/Firewire converter (none in stock). I have got a thunderbolt to ethernet converter but cannot seem to do anything with this.
Im at a point where more drives is not the answer.5+TB is plenty (i need disk archives).I quietly waited for WWDC 2008 Thinking Blu-Ray BANG NOT A WORD.Has ppl had any luck with aftermarket blue ray burnz if so which?
This issue has been bought up b4 but i hoped "WWDC 2008" (wrong)would have changed that so back to the same BS of buying drives
I have an iMac and MBP. When I transfer files over the network (wireless) from one computer to the other, it is quite slow. I think around 1~1.5mb/sec. Is this normal or expected performance on file transfer via wireless? If so what can I do to increase the performance? Settings on the wireless router?
I have a G4 1.25 Ghz MDD desktop unit and have just purchased a 2010 Mac Pro. I have my Mac Pro all set up with the new software. I wanted to move documents to the Pro from the G4 using migration assistant. I made the necessary selections and deselections to copy documents, but not copy applications. I did not choose to copy users or settings. What I got was a copying of the applications [why, I don't know, since I did not request that], but not of the documents. I since have learned I needed to copy users, too, in order to get documents. I have an idea that I have some problems now because of the G4 software being on the Pro. Word, for example, saves very slowly; the saving is marked by prolonged spinning of the colored pizza of death. This machine has 12 Gb or RAM, so it is not a RAM issue.
I debate on trying to strip all the old mac's software out, but might miss something, or might remove something I don't want to remove. So, I consider just erasing the drive, reinstalling the OS, and reinstalling all my new software. Then, perhaps, moving documents in some more manual way. Can you connect two macs with ethernet or firewire and simply drag files between two finder windows? Rather than this migration assistant which seems to be able to cause problems? I do have two other internal drives, so I could build a new boot drive with new software as an alternative. The Mac Pro came with only two DVD's of software. Are those enough for a new install?
when i do wireless-n transfer of files from imac to macbook, it locks the permission on the file and i have to unlock every folder and file. how can i get rid of this issue?
I am trying to transfer a 2.35 GB file (it is windows 7 .iso) to a MicroSD card (using the USB adapter that comes with the micro sd) and when I try to transfer it, it stops and eject the drive and then it tells me "ERROR you disconnected the drive without ejecting it, it can get damage doing that" (something like that) and it says it cant finish transferring the file cause I don't have enough privileges or Insufficient Privileges. The thing is, that the file can be put on the micro sd cause a few hours ago it was in there, i put it on the mac, till I use the micro sd for something else, then now when i want to put it back it does that...
At present I'm using my MP constantly but it's not always doing work stuff... and have recently I've notice the electricity bill to be astronomically high! Kinda like having a one or two bar heater on twenty-four-seven. Know what I mean?
And, for a little while I've been using a MBP for the same task but I find condition the battery every so often to be a right pain in the rear, especially since it's not my main laptop and it's cells are constantly pumped full most of the time, thus constantly connected to the wall outlet
cut down on my super high fuel bills and make my life a little easier. I'm thinking about buying a Mac Mini of my own, it'll probably be completely headless, cause I'm thinking of using it purely for downloads and huge online file transfers etc.
I am however curious, does anyone else use theirs as a slave, for the same or similar tasks?
Earlier i posted to ask how can i format using SL upgrade disk. I came across a problem. I have a work .ISO image which is about 9 GB and i tried copying that to my External HD with 20GB free Disc space. I am not able to copy it. I tried searching for a program which will make it into an archive and split it (like WinRAR in PC) but wasn't successful.
recently purchased two Intel X-25M 80GB G2 drives. One will be used as a boot drive for Snow Leopard and the other for Windows 7. I also will have a RAID array of one WD 640GB Caviar Black (on order) and one Hitachi 640GB (stock HDD from Apple) on which I will place my files. In the past I have used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone one HDD onto another. However, this time I have to approach things a bit differently.
