Nov 15, 2009I ask because QTX can't play .qtz files and there is a beautiful screensaver I've been in love with since Tiger called Snowfall. You can download it here:

Under Tiger and Leopard, the screensaver was amazing, but in Snow Leopard the screensaver is jittery.
I'm assuming this has something to do with it being a Quartz file? Does anyone know if the qtz file can be recompiled to work fluidly again? I've contacted the dev, but have heard nothing back.

Sep 4, 2009As anyone found a way to create a video playing screen saver in Quartz Composer in Snow Leopard. These screen savers work fine in Leopard but crash System Preferences when you attempt to load them in Snow Leopard. They seem to work just fine within Quartz Composer.

Dec 26, 2008Ichat is working fine but each time I want to send something, a file, it says: waiting for reply (accept) and when my friend accepts, nothing happens ! I've tried on many friends and they all use ichat with a gmail account (like me). Maybe it's because i'm doing it in France ? I use english ichat while they are using french ichat. I use a macbook and they use the imacs. we all use leopard.

Feb 18, 2012I have installed a free trial of Avid Media Composer 6. I had it on my computer and it was working fine, but I thought there was an issue so I unistalled it, and then reinstalled it. Now I am getting an error message whenever I attempt to open a project. It reads..."Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address 0x0 ... and then the Avid Media Composer shuts down. I have read that it is necessary to unistall any existing software first which is exactly what I did. Im using lion on a 2 ghz i7 macbook pro.

Feb 20, 2008I'm running 10.5.2 on a 2GHz C2D BlackBook. Recently I've encountered 3 symptoms that suggests Quartz Extreme stops working after the computer's been running for a while (and by a while, I mean it could only be a couple hours).
I've recently (a few days ago) set my desktop picture to change every minute. It's supposed to fade smoothly between pictures, and it did for a while, but then eventually I noticed the fading transition had stopped and the pictures were just switching without any kind of transition. The problem was resolved after a restart.
I don't use iMovie often. But I opened iMovie '08 yesterday and I got the following error message: "iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme." My only option was to quit iMovie. I noticed my desktop picture was also not doing the transitions any more. After a restart, both problems were resolved.
Today, I got the same error message in iMovie and the desktop isn't transitioning again. I haven't restarted yet, but I assume it will fix itself when I do. Also, I tried adding a widget to my dashboard to see if I get the ripple effect, to test my theory that Quartz Extreme (or is it core image, or core graphics?) stops working after a while. I did not get the ripple effect I usually get when adding a widget.
Since I just started using the changing desktop feature and 10.5.2 is a new update, I don't know if one of those could be causing the issue. I'll try turning off the desktop transitions and see if it continues.

Oct 15, 2007I've just got a Radeon 9600 Pro PC/Mac edition, as the 9600XT that came with the G5 died on me last week. It's taken an age to get it working, I could only boot in safe mode, in the end I deleted all my existing ATI extensions, installed the ATI Displays 4.5.7 and it works. BUT ... (and it's a big but)... performance is VERY slow and System Profiler says Core Image and Quartz Extreme are not supported. If anyone's got any ideas I'd be most grateful.

OS X :: IChat Hacking Warnings From IChat?
Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.
