I'm a Mac newbie. I switched from Windows a month ago. I need to covert some videos that are in the .WMV format to any (preferably, the best) iMovie 09' supported format. I searched for a mac video converter on google and this forum. All the software that turned up aren't free and the trial versions place watermarks, limit the time and mute the audio, etc.
View 12 RepliesI recorded bunch of video with iPhone 3GS and then edited a 12min quicktime movie from the clips. Problem is that the file size became HUGE, 1,24GB! How can it become so large file? Even one of the raw clips was 15min and 399MB. I just wanted to export the movie (with quicktime) to my Mac with the same quality as the iPhone recording quality. Here's the quicktime export settings details that I exported the movie:

I have a video that I am trying to import into iMovie '09. Its it a .MOV file. The file shows up in iPhoto, but when I go to iPhoto movies in iMovie, the file does not show up. What type of formats does iMovie let you import? Perhaps I can't import because its the wrong type of file? If so, is there a (free) way to convert the .MOV file into a file that can be imported into iMovie?

Quicktime will play this video, but imovie apparently does not support it. I have found a number of different video apps by searching forums (iskysoft imedia converter, handbreak, mpeg streamclip, applemacsoft video converter) of which only iskysoft imedia converter does what I want to do. The only problem is the trial version does not convert audio and has "evaluation copy" imprinted into the video. The full version costs $50

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of videos that I recorded on my windows computer, they're in an uncompressed AVI format (huge files). Since I wanted to use iMovie 09 for the editing I decided to convert them to mp4 using VisualHub (to compress them and so they would work with iMovie) and they seemed to work fine, I could still see the video on Quicktime. The problem is that I still can't add them to iMovie. Whenever I add one of these videos as mp4 or dv (I've tried both) they go through the process of adding them to iMovie (copying, creating thumbnails, etc.) and then when it's finished, that's it. No video is actually added to the event. It happens all the time no matter what other options I change when converting the file. And by the way, I noticed the "Show All Clips" option at the bottom of the iMovie main window, it's not that. Anyway, here's the info on one of the files (from the Quicktime X info page of the video):
File: Video 4.mp4
Format: H.264, 800 x 600, Millions, AAC, 2 channels, 44100 Hz
FPS: 30
Data Size: 84.3 MB
Data Rate: 4,505.10 kbit/s
(This file goes through the process when I add it to iMovie, but doesn't actually get added). Some of them have an 840 x 524 size instead of 800 x 600, but they still fail to get added to iMovie properly.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI currently own a JVC Everio GZ-MG130 hard disk camcorder. It records in .MOD files. I cannot view them in quicktime on my imac g3. I have tried opening them as is, and renaming them to .MPG and .MOV. I found that HandBrake will do the job, but I cannot find a PowerPC version for 10.4. 0.9.1 should work, but I cannot find the installer files. If anyone knows of any other way to convert them, tell me. I need to be able to open them in iMovie '04 to edit them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've searched these forums and tried a few converters but nothing seems to be good. I used to use visual hub which up until recently was okay. Untill i tried to convert the film office space which i have as a matroska file to an mp4 for my iPhone. The film wouldnt run well and was very laggy on the iPhone. I got handbrake and that works fine for converting the film and makes .mkv's run smooth on the iPhone when converted to mp4, the only problem is that the program crashes after a while usually after converting one film. to cut a long story short! can anyone suggest some more video converters i can try that will work well with snow leopard?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a video that is ".mov" and I cant use it in SonyVegas (Windows 7) cause it shows no Video (just audio) So I'm trying to convert it to other format that hopefully wont make it look like crap and that will work with SonyVegas . I try iSkysoft Video Converter and it works, but It loose too much quality , the original .mov is 2GB and the biggest better quality i can get with that app is like 400-500mb. I'm giving up, I've search youtube and google for hours in the last 3 days without any success of making the .mov to work on sonyvegas or converting it, that's why i decided maybe someone in here can help me, I'm still kinda like a noob on MAC OS X

My biggest concern is the conversion from .avi to mp4 and m4v for my ipod, iphone, and apple tv. Bottom Line: I'm looking for an awesome ALL-IN-ONE file converter for the Mac that will convert most anything I throw at it. Does something like this exist? Free or not too expensive would be good too.
I'm trying (desperately!) to copy a section of a DVD. it is approximately 1h30mins long, but I only need 10mins for a work project. I am having real trouble doing this. I am new to Mac and so am probably doing something wrong. I'll run through what I've done so far:
1-Ripped the dvd to a m4v format and put it on my desktop
2-Opened iMovie and tried to import the file
3-The file is visible, but is grey and unable to be selected
4-Clicked the file on my desktop to preview it, it automatically opened in iTunes-I don't know if that is normal or not
The file is able to be played in Quicktime.
Anyone know of a Mac OS X software that will capture streaming video and save in a playable format in Mac OS X? Kind of like Download Helper for Firefox captures FLV, MP4, MP3, etc... and saves it to your hard drive.

I have been using Handbrake which is great, use the Apple TV preset which plays on all the devices listed I have. However I'm just wondering if there is a paid for, or free program that is faster or better in any respect for converting? I know H264 is CPU intensive, so is Handbrake going to be the best and fastest anyway?
