View 10 RepliesDoes anyone happen to know offhand how the icons that make up the Application stack get rebuilt? I've noticed that when I install new applications or update old ones, I get the following sort of "not found" icon. They generally go away quickly, other times they hang around for days. So I'm assuming there's an automated process that generates them... I'd like to kick it off manually if possible.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe only thing thats bugging me, and its minor about Snow Leopard is the icon size of a stack in grid view mode is huge.. Ive googled it but I cant seem to find any way to adjust it..

My desktop icons keep moving after reboot to the right hand side and arranged by name. Now: I have tried resetting the the views options, changing the grid size, changing the icon size, repairing permissions in the disk utility. I have tried all these, with reboots in between and in differing orders.

Anyone know a reputable place to get star wars icons? If so how do you replace them with the regular screen icons. Btw, I did probably a weak search regarding this on the forums already.
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, all of a sudden, all my files and folders are locked in place wherever they may be - on the desktop, in the documents folder, everywhere. I can't drag them anywhere. They're stuck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the black macbook and I have several folders and files on my desktop. However, lately after I shutdown my macbook and start it again, all the folders and files on my desktop move and scatter. I want to keep them in the same order that I originally arranged. How do I keep them in the same place? Is it normal for them to move around after shutdown? I don't want to sort them out by name or date modified or anything like that. I just want to keep them in the same order that I put them.
View 4 Replies View Relatednow I can't seem to create a new stack that allows the documents to actually stack on top of one another how do I get back to that stack or maybe I should say how do I create another documents stack because right now I only have one stack which is the downloads stack

yesterday I wasn't able to click on my desktop icon in finder so I thought its just something silly. I turned off the computer and went to work. When I came back, I turned it back on, to realize that all icons are gone except my HDD, TM HDD and Windows HDD. Everything else is gone.
I entered the time machine and all back ups are gone too except today's and yesterday's. On yesterday's back up I do have the desktop folders and icon untouched but not on todays.
I tried permission, PRM reset, Onyx maintenance and cleaning but nothing is working. When I put a file name in the finder to find it it doesn't find it.
How (if it's possible) would I be able to save the positions of certain icons inside certain folders? My trouble is that my Applications folder looks like this picture (linked below) and looks completely unorganized, but even worse, some of the apps are overlapping.

Is there a way to create folders with the specialized icons like the ones in the Home Folder, eg a Music Folder with the music icon, Picture folder with the "watermark" camera icon?
View 3 Replies View RelatedStarting two days ago, after about 20 minutes of use on my mac, some of the icons on my desktop will suddenly have distorted pixels, as well as all of the open windows will have a black box surrounding it. I am almost positive that this has nothing to do with my video hardware going bad, rather something corrupted in the operating system. This has happened sometime after I had installed the Adobe CS5 photoshop trial. I have recently uninstalled it, but this problem still persists. As soon as I log out, or restart the computer, everything is back to normal. When the 15-20 minute mark comes, all of a sudden everything starts getting distorted. I am also running Mac OS X 10.6.3 currently.
In the image you can see that the bottom dock is corrupted looking as well but the icons stay in tact. This is very odd.
So my icon for the blue default folders disappeared out of nowhere and they are gone systemwide. I don't know what to do to get it back.
I've tried:
-Relaunching Finder
-Rebooting
-Reinstalling 10.6.4
-Cleared the caches
-Searching for other solutions
About This Mac: Mac OS X Version 10.2.8, Memory 896 MB and Processor: 400 MHz PowerPC G4
MUST FIX: I CANNOT MOVE any icons or folders whatsoever (except to the Trash)! I checked the log too, but I have no idea what to look for there. This happened right about 1-2 days ago (11/20-22/2009).
BONUS FIX: As for iTunes, well it got bugged (clicked and didn't activated), so I deleted it and I don't know how to reinstall iTunes. This happened some years back, so I almost forgot about it.
Have this reoccurring problem that when an icon in the dock is clicked it open a folder showing it's location instead of a opening the app.A reboot will fix it, but it is getting annoying.

I just fresh-installed 10.6 and updated everything. And now this.
I have not ever seen this before nor have I installed any software I haven't ever used before that did not do this.
This also shows in Columns View and the Lower Pane of Cover Flow.
... so lost ...
Get Info shows a preview of a normal folder, as does icon view.
still getting used to apple osx i just copied the app candybar and imported several folders of icons. However now when i try to make a new collection and add more icons it doesnt show the icons would i have to reinstall the app any advice would be great.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macpro 1.1, with mac os x lion server 10.7.3. Everything works great. I created a virtualHost in my server app called myVirtualHost.mydomain.com and manualy enabled +Indexes on that virtualHost. When I access the myVirtualHost.mydomain.com gives me a nice list with all the content of the sites folder.my problem is that the list is very poor files/folders have no icons, I want little icons for the different types of content in site files/folders, just like in snow leo server.

I am using OSX Snow Leopard. It's really great, but the folders and items within them are a total mess. When I copy or move anything to a folder, all the other icons move and icons even appear on top of one and other. Please is there any way to stop this - is there an app or something that will make the folders as tidy looking as they are on Windows? And please leave out all the Mac/Windows fanboy stuff - I have no problems with either OS.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI did an uninstall of Firefox, wanting to just go back and start over, clean. I went into my profile & deleted that (after saving to USB). Now I'm wondering abt getting rid of the icon and how do I check to make sure there is nothing at all on my computer. Isn't that what I want in the event I just want to start over? I love Firefox and just want to get it back on my system, operating properly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI accidentally removed my "Downloads" stack earlier today. I thought getting it back should be easy -- just drag and drop the folder back in next to my trash icon. But now it only appears as a folder, not a stack (i.e., when I right click on it, I only have the "Options" and "Open" links, not all the stack options). Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong here? My user and applications folders that I added to my dock as stacks are still working properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to change the look of my stack folder?
View 10 Replies View RelatedUsually, I have my downloads folder (from my external NTFS drive) be a stack in the dock. In Leopard, it would usually load up after a log out, or restart, but with Snow Leopard, it just doesn't seem to load after, like I said a moment ago, logging out or restarting. I have to manually drag it back down every time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm in finder or on my desktop I'm able to hover above an MP3 and it brings up the option to play it without opening itunes or anything. However when I'm in the documents folder in the stack at the bottom next to the dock and I hover above an MP3 it doesn't give me that option. You have to actually click it to open it in itunes or another program to listen. Is there a setting for this? Is it possible to have it just play there the same way as if it was on the desktop or in a finder folder?
