View 1 RepliesI accidentally renamed all the file names on every single one of my 24000 photos in aperture using batch change ( keywords, metadata etc) Can I undo this action or will I need to restore from an earlier time machine/capsule backup? I recall that was a mechanism / trick to take a snap shot of a webpage and immediately it would load into email for sending. I can't recall how this was done.I have already tried command shift 4 and this did not work.

I just tested mkv file on vlc and they work fine with vlc and quick time player.
But does anyone know how to make snapshot and create thumbnails from the video?
I am trying to export a snapshot from a QT Pro move and I keep getting error 11005.

Will the Quicktime Pro software allow pausing a video and creating a snapshot for printing?

I want to use automator to make a time lapse video, but I'd like the video snapshots taken to come from my external isight camera (not the built-in isight).
I see that someone else had the same question a few years back (https://discussions.apple.com/message/11257733#11257733), but I thought I'd try again. Maybe things have changed since 2010?

I take loads of videos of my friends and I snowboarding, wakeboarding, and other stupid stuff. As well as making short films with the footage I like taking snapshots/freeze frames out of the videos to post on facebook and make slideshows. On my old Windows computer with the Kodak MediaImpressions software, although that program *****, I could take good snapshots out of the videos and it saves them as normal photos. But I can't figure out how to do that with iPhoto or iMovie. I know how to do a freeze frame in a project movie on iMovie but that is just in the project and doesnt save the photo.

Hi y'all: i just purchased FCP Studio 5 retail (ouch) and installed it, but not before i had a deal fall through with someone who had "sold" me their copy but then rescinded the deal. So, i have my own copy now, but i have THEIR license key registration - i need to enter mine, but throwing the apps away doesn't delete this info; it's stored somewhere else.
can anyone point me to the correct file for deletion, so that when i relaunch any of the studio apps, i will be prompted for (correct) license key information?
I imported some movies into itunes library. But the names of those movies are disordered and confused, so i try rename them to make the style clean.
Since there are a lot of them, i write some python code to do the work. I rename them directly from the source directory which is in iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies. But when I open itunes, the names are not changed. Then I try to use organize library option those names in the source file are changed back to old names.
After that, I move all those movies to other directory, and delete them in itunes. I try to rename those movies in that directory, and then import them to itunes. Surprisingly, when importing to itunes, they all changed to old names! I don't know why itunes still remember them.
For some reason when I go to save a jpg that I've received by email for example, the finder window opens and tells me I need to use the extension jpeg?! But it does offer me this....You can choose to use both, so that your file name ends in “.jpg.jpeg”. Now this is new as I've never had a problem with this before. how I stop it?!

I have a .mkv file on my iMac and when I rename it, it works but it also doesn't work.
I rename it by clicking on the .mkv file and clicking Get Info, then I can enter in the new file name there.
But then when I did open the file in VLC Player, it shows the original file name which is something stupid like "dizo".
I'm looking for a program which will let me edit this file name properly (hope that made sense).
am primarily on macs, but i have bootcamp on my main computer and I need to make sure my working files are completely windows compatible... that includes their file names...!
Is there a program that i can use that will scan a bunch of files, bring up file names that are not compatible with windows xp pro, and give me the opportunity to change them?
I just tried to save a file with a rather long name. I got an error message that said I could not use filenames longer than 31 characters, I seem to remember that before I got this computer (iMac 21.5"), I used to have longer filenames than 31 characters! Is my memory faulty or is the operating system, "Mavericks" 10.9.3 deficient in this area, also?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 1Tb Iomega Minimax attached to my Mac mini that has started acting strangely.
It would appear that some of the file names have become linked to other files on the hard drive.
Example - I can double click on an mp3 file that used to be fine, but now a video file gets played that is stored elsewhere on the Minimax.
It only appears to be some of my files. I use this drive mainly for mp3 and AVI video storage so the mix ups are typically between these file types.
I ran disk utility but it says the drive is fine. Is there any other Mac software that can help me figure out what the problem is and maybe fix it?
I've never seen a hard drive do this before, and my Mac experience is pretty limited!
I'd like to copy the filename and the date created (basically, whatever my Finder's List View shows, which is minimal) so that I can paste it into a plain text document. Is there an easy way to do this without a script? As it stands, when I copy and paste to the text document, I just get the filename with its extension.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new MacBook Pro. Reinstalled all my applications from my MacBook. But for MPEG Streamclip, it is asking for The Apple QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which I bought back in 2009. The Apple Store isn't letting me download it again so I need to find the .dmg on my old MacBook. What is the filename?

If I have the following folders or files (the numbers in which represent dates):
"20120211 abcdef" and "2014 abcdef" then, if I sort the files by Name in Finder, they will be sorted like this:
"2014abcdef"
"20120211abcdef"
so Finder seems to be treating the numeric characters as numeric values and sort the files by numeric value.
How to change this behavior and tell Finder to treat numeric characters as alphabetical characters and sort the files/folders like:
"20120211abcdef"
"2014abcdef"
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 240 GB SSD/1 TB HDD/8 GB RAM
Also the files save in png format instead of jpg. is there any way to change this?
This also occurs to screenshots taken by this map files names are: Photo 1, photo 2, etc instead of a timestamp filename
I've tried searching but it doesn't seem like anyone else has this problem or I am using the wrong key phrases. any ideas?
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday. In Tiger, I was able to click a filename and it would highlight the entire filename + extension. In Snow Leopard, I do the same thing and it only highlights the filename.
Is it possible to highlight the filename AND extension in Snow Leopard?
I've read the other posts about this issue, but have not found a thread addressing automatic resizing a Finder column width to the longest filename. Is there a trick to configure Finder to do this? So far it looks like only a manual double-click of the column handle will accomplish this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this script line:
do shell script "lpadmin -p CIN-East-Copier -E -v lpd://192.168.51.78 -P '/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/LANIER MP C5501/LD655C'"
The filename is "LANIER MP C5501/LD655C", the forward slash in the name is a character, not a folder structure. The script above works perfectly for drivers without the forward character. How to make it work? I tried replacing the forward slash with URL encoded character, changing the structure to colon delimited (i.e. Macintosh HD:Library:Printers....etc), none work.
I've recently discovered that while searching in Finder I am not getting any results of files that have underscores in their file names. For example, a photographer sent over hundreds of files that are named "IMG_1234.jpg." When I search in that folder for any files named "34", I get no results, even though I can see the file is right there. Files with names like "AC-1234.jpg" are fine and come up in the results right away.
What gives with the underscore? Is this a Mavericks thing? I've never had this issue before with Finder. Is there a setting I can change to include these file names in my search results?

I'd like to automatically save each photo filename as a keyword for that photo, so if the file name is changed later through different versions it retains the original filename within its EXIF information to identify it, preferably while importing it.
I there some form of dynamic keyword that lets you have Aperture replace it with the current file name?

I've just installed Google Drive, but it's created a series of duplicates with a "(1)" inserted in the filename. Quite maddening. Is there any way to quickly search for filenames that contain (1) so I can quickly separate them?

Q1: how can I delay printing? This was possible in OS9.
I have a thermal printer wich permits me to change the ribbon (Black, CMY, CMYK). If I have a mixed type of files to print, I'd put on hold (in the "print" window) the files that requires the unloaded ribbon while waiting for the other to print.
Of course, I can print all the CMYK, wait until it's done then print the B/W ones but I don't find it practical. Or I can also rush to the print center and hope to have the time to suspend manualy the ones that need it.
Q2: Once a printer is created, how can I change the associated ppd? This also was possible with OS9.
Q3: It is possible to change the printer name once it is created?
