Aperture :: Can Save Filename As A Keyword On Importing Photo
Jun 5, 2014
I'd like to automatically save each photo filename as a keyword for that photo, so if the file name is changed later through different versions it retains the original filename within its EXIF information to identify it, preferably while importing it.
I there some form of dynamic keyword that lets you have Aperture replace it with the current file name?

I accidentally renamed all the file names on every single one of my 24000 photos in aperture using batch change ( keywords, metadata etc) Can I undo this action or will I need to restore from an earlier time machine/capsule backup? Undoing a batch metadata filename change in Aperture3?

Also the files save in png format instead of jpg. is there any way to change this?
This also occurs to screenshots taken by this map files names are: Photo 1, photo 2, etc instead of a timestamp filename
I've tried searching but it doesn't seem like anyone else has this problem or I am using the wrong key phrases. any ideas?

I am running iLife 11 with the latest iPhoto 9.1.1
I try to import it to Aperture 3.0
However it will not import as Aperture says I am running an iPhoto earlier than 7.1.5
This is not true my software is all up to date.
How can I import all my photos?
Nope still no joy I will just have to import pictures as I need to work on them, no big deal really.

I have just tried to import from the card reader on my iMac some RAW images and it comes up with an error message saying it cannot read the format or the files are corrupt how can that be I thought iPhoto could deal with RAW images. I am using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ72 bridge camera.

By default aperture wants to import all my photos and MOV files into aperture. By default imovie wants to import all AVCDH lite files from my panasonic LX5 into imovie. I want to import my photos into Aperture and my videos into imovie. Currently I am doing the following:
1. import photos only into aperture by deselecting all MOV files and hitting apply.
2. import MOV files into aperture by deselecting JPGs, selecting a different directory for my movies and hitting apply.
3. in imovie import MOV files directly from hard drive
I wish there was a way to force aperture to only touch raw/jpg and imovie to handle MOV/AVCHD lite.

why Aperture is creating doubles while importing photos? Within Aperture, the events only show single pictures but there are 2 copies of the same photo displayed within finder. Example:
-DC101010.jpg
-DC101010 (1).jpg
Some findings:
Happens on new files never imported and on files I've imported before (creating new events the 2nd time and unchecking "do not import duplicates") Removing the file with a "(1)" in the name does not affect Aperture...The 2 files are identical in dates and size, with preview showing the same picture.Creating a new test library and importing did not fix the problem

-OS X 10.9.4

I'd used iPhoto for years, but recently switched to using Aperture. When setting up Aperture, I "imported" the iPhoto library by electing to leave the photos in their current location (i.e. in the iPhoto library). Any photos I subsequently imported into Aperture were placed in the Aperture library. With iLife '11 out, I'd now like to use iPhoto as my photo browsing program, since I like all the new features that Aperture is now lacking from a photo-viewing, book creation, etc standpoint. However, I prefer to use Aperture as my photo editing program.
In other words, I'd like to use Aperture to import photos from my camera and do any editing (which I tend to do on nearly every photo); when I want to view or share photos, I'd like to use iPhoto '11. (Since I do some editing on most of my photos, merely using Aperture as an "external editor" from iPhoto is cumbersome). Is this possible to do? I've tried researching this, but most articles are about moving from iPhoto to Aperture, not back and forth...

First, I import RAW images from my Nikon 1 v2. When I start to look at the images at first they appear clear and bright. Within a second it seems that a light grey filter descends over the image, making it look dull. RAW tends to look a bit blah anyway, but this is a muddy appearance.
I don't understand the change back to the image I had first glimpsed when first opening the image. It's just about impossible to reclaim the first appearance using adjustments.

I'm using automator to monitor a folder and, when changed, import the photos into Aperture. It works in that the script kicks in when pictures are added, but it stops at importing one file.
It's a simple workflow - I have it ask for confirmation then after I hit "OK" the import function starts. Problem is that it stops after it imports one file. What more information do you need to diagnose?

I have a JPEG photo that's 5184 x 3456 (17.9 MP) It's too big for Twitter which has a file size limit of 5MB.
How do I resize the photo for Twitter? There are no Twitter-specific instructions in the Help Center. I have tried to follow the instructions for Image Export. I end up with identical photos.

I was going through my projects in Aperture and noticed that 1300 photos from a wedding I shot are missing. Well I found them in the trash along with several other photos I deleted on purpose. However there was a distinct difference between the files I was missing and the files I purposely deleted. There was a symbol in the bottom right hand corner. After some research, I found that the symbol meant that the original or source files was missing. But the picture looks like it's there. This also means that I can't edit these pictures of export them. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! I didn't delete these files. I imported everything together and need to figure out how to get them back. Are they tucked away some where? I know when I imported the photos I included all the originals and data associated with them.

I'm trying to clean up my projects and organize them better, but I'm stuck because I have mistakenly gathered unrelated photos into too many projects. I just want to move a photo from one project to another, but I'm not getting how to do it. I've been able to merge projects which has worked a lot, but some photos just don't belong in the projects they are in. Is there some simple thing I'm missing?

I've noticed that my Photo Stream is not updated after I've made significant edits to my photos in Aperture. If this is not working as intended, is there something I must do to have my Photo Stream updated after I've edited it? If it is just not an implemented feature, would this be something you could implement in the future. I'd rather have my edited pictures show up on my iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV when I'm showing pictures to my friends, than the raw photos that I simply uploaded into Aperture.

I'm new to Aperture, I've always used Iphoto. I've recently imported a large library of photo's from Iphoto into Aperture. I selected to store the photo's in their current location. Is there any way that Aperture can automatically update the library once I add it to Iphoto or my computer? I'm always adding photo's to my computer. As it is now I have to manually import the selected photo's into an event and then drag it from the event to my library. Is there an easier way then this? is there some option that I'm missing?
