OS X :: How To Open XP Files (INK Format) With Mac

I am presently on an IMac with Snow Leopard installed on it. I found an old cdrom disk of mine that I burned a few years back when I had a Windows computer. I think it ran Windows XP Home. Anyways, I used a burning program called Hotburn to burn the disk. I burned my address book, several photos, different folders of various things onto the disk. For whatever reason, the file extensions on every file turned into .ink. So, how can I open them on my mac? I copied the files on the burned disk to a new folder on my imac.

I'm new to mac and I have a problem when I want to open a downloaded subtitle file from for example allsubs.org. It's in zip format normally and then inside that zip file there has to be an srt file. But when I download the file it doesn't give me the zip file. It just gives me a file without extension titled 1. I have already installed Stuffit and other extractors like unrarX but nothing works.

I had to downgrade from the second Yosemite beta in order to run one of my applications for work that didn't run on Yosemite. I've successful reinstalled Mavericks to the chagrin of finder not working at all. Whenever I mount a DMG I get "Finder cannot open files in the “volume” format." Also, whenever I click to open a folder or a new window in finder, it just crashes and relaunches. I'm going to try to do a fresh install of Mavericks and recover from a backup.
I also had to regain admin privileges for my user which I have done successfully.

I found where my logs from Adium are kept: but the files are .XML and I don't know what to use to open it. Also I want to be able to send these files to a friend. My friend is using a PC so what should I tell them to open it with?

I have a document that I've been working on in Text Edit. When I went to open it today it would not open and I got the message "the file could not be opened because it is not in the right format". I don't remember saving it any differently, last time. The only thing I did was change the font to a larger size, a few minutes before I last saved it. Could it be that it then became such a large document that text edit can't open it or is there something else I might have accidently done.

I am hoping to convert WMA files to MP3 formate on a mac. I tried out the program named switch but I was unable to make that work (I was only using the trial version anyway. I did see the thread that was started in Nov 06 but it seems to be a little too old for discussion sakes. I was also hopping for new information/evolution of programs and freeware. I will try what it says about switch but I doubt it will work.
If you have any other programs, I would love to hear about them. (just as a side note, the WMA files could be protected. I don't know if they are and I dont know how to know if they are or are not. I read on the switch application page that it supports the decoded version of WMA thus that might be the reason it doesn't work).

Wasn't sure what section to put this in but anyhow. I have been downloading .cab files for my Windows based phone and sometimes they download as .exe files as they should but many times they just download as a .php document and I cant do anything with it. Any guess as to why or how to make it download as a .exe file all the time?

I'm sure a few of us in this forum own a 360, have any of you managed to play any REAL HD content without purchasing the HD-DVD player or converting your .mkv's to .wmv's. I've noticed that if I download a 1080p trailer from apple.com/trailers in .mov format it works flawlessly, perfect image and audio. Is there a (quick) way to convert a .mkv to .mov and have it play perfectly with no hitch, on the 360. If trailers off apple.com can play there must be a workaround. Below I've posted a screen of the downloaded trailers info that I got off of apple tv.

I am searching for software that will convert aif/aiff/aifc files to wma. Do not want to convert to mp3. All I can find is software like Switch which does not convert to wma. There seems to be an endless number of windows software which will make the conversion, but none that (that I can find) for Mac OS.

I know how to change Icons when they are in the Ico format but now everytime I download Icon packs the files are coming in PNGs and I have no clue how to make a png my Icon. I'd prefer to be able to do just that if there is a way, if not then is there a free converter? For some reason neither IConverter or PngtoIco will work for me. (I am on Tiger)

I have an 8GB Toshiba TransMemory? U2M USB Flash Drive and I want it to work with both Windows and Mac. I know this can be accomplished by formatting FAT32, but I need to be able to load 5GB files. This of course eliminates FAT as an option. I know there is a format that works for this, because I used to do these transfers with this very drive (with the manufacturer's format). Up until I had to temporarily reformat the drive for a little project. Now I need to get this USB drive back to a format that works for me.

I cannot get the files to open with the latest OpenOffice or TextEdit. I've been doing some research into how to convert them and came across a product called MacLinkPlus from Data Viz, but I cannot find it on there site and assume that it may have been discontinued. When I get sent an excel file (.xls) I open the attachment, however if I choose Open it doesn't let me format the cells but does let me write and save. If I choose Open and Remove Macros it opens in Read Only however it does let me save whatever changes I've made but still won't let me format the cells. Is there a way to format the cells of these files that get sent to me via Entourage. Even if I save them to desktop I get the same results.

If I try to do this in iTunes I get a CD where the songs are in AIFF format and I can't play them on every CD player. And with every other burner or converter is the same, I obtain only AIFF files. Consider that I've already tried a lot of converters and in iTunes doesn't work!

I have been trying to get my Fraps video files on my Windows 7 machine compressed into a format that will allow them to work with Final Cut Pro X on my mac.
Here is some information about the file I am trying to compress (acquired using MediaInfo):

I have tried using MPEG Streamclip on my Windows machine to convert it to an .mp4 file, but that just gave me an audio file with no video. I then tried using Handbreak on my Windows 7 machine to do the same thing, but the resulting file was not even recognized by Final Cut Pro X.

I am the owner of a shiny new iMac , aluminum and all. I am ready to do more heavy duty resource demanding things that my trusty but aged G4 Powerbook can't handle too well. One of them is video conversion. I have a huge database and collection of avi files that I need to convert to iPod format (I think that's MP4?). Can someone recommend a good program? i downloaded a few TV shows in .AVI format, and when I try to play them in quicktime on my iMac it says I need to download the divx codec. these shows play fine in Divx but still wont play in Quicktime. is there any way I can get them to play in quicktime?
