OS X :: How Can I Get Boot Camp To Recognize My Airport?
Sep 30, 2009
Question: How can I get Boot Camp to recognize my Airport? Do I need to buy a PC wireless router?
I've also got VMWARE Fusion, and of course that works fine. But I need the extra speed and power that virtualization can't muster.
My apologies if this has already been covered. I searched with a bunch of keywords, and no luck.

OSX does not recognize the NTFS partition of Boot Camp Windows 7 I have. It is not mounted in Finder. I went to Disk Utility to see the NTFS partition, the one I installed my Windows 7 on, but it says the format is in MS-DOS(FAT) whereas I clearly see it shows as NTFS on Windows 7. It is also greyed out, named disk0s3.
I tried to verify the disk and it fails as follows:
Verifying volume "disk0s3"
** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: fcfcfc
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk..............

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my MacBook Pro purchased late 2011 and running Lion. The Windows software was purchased online and downloaded. I then copied the .iso file to a dvd. When I try and install Windows through Boot Camp it doesn't recognize that there is a disk in the drive to install Windows. I sure hope I didn't waste my money. Has anyone installed Windows 7 from a OEM download?
Info:
MacBook
Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

nstall Windows XP SP3 on my macbook with a dual boot. I downloaded it from Windows, and have an iso file. I used the disc utility to burn it to a disc, but when I try to use it with Boot Camp, Boot camp does not recognize it as a bootable disc.

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Is it possible to boot from an external Firewire DVD Drive? It certainly isnt from an external USB DVD. Real answers only please, not "I think so" ones based on HDDs or rumours you may have heard!...
Background:
I've got an MCE Optibay in my Mid-2010 i7 MBP. When installing Bootcamp it refuses to install from the external USB DVD drive. In the end I pulled the 2nd HDD out and reconnected the internal DVD. It then worked fine without a hitch. Then I reinstalled the 2nd HDD and all was fine for a few days.
Now I want to resize my Win7 partition (bigger, as MS Visual Studio's bigger than I thought, and I might stick some games on). I can shrink the OSX partition fine with Disk Utility, but windows won't grow the Win7 one because the empty space is before the Win7 partition, not after it. Apparently this can be done with GParted. Guess what? I can't boot the Linux based GParted CDROM from the external USB DVD drive! So, will a Firewire one work where USB fails, and solve my alternative OS booting issues? If I buy one I can then either use GParted, or delete the Win7 partition and start again without having to pull the laptop to bits all over again, only to put it back once I'm done, and possibly have the same issues in the future. Obviously I don't want to blow extra money getting a Firewire DVD drive though if it's a waste of money...

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .
Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.
And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .
So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.
And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

Is there a way to make the Boot Camp menu the default boot screen, as opposed to holding Alt? This is the latest SL release, if that matters.
I know this is possible in some manner, our networked iMacs all do it; they start up and give the option to boot OS X or Windows, with a countdown to boot the default OS. I'd just like the same thing to happen on my MBP.

I have done some research on triple boot systems, and it appears that a third OS must be run virtually, but all the information I came across was a few years old. Microsoft is running a deal right now on Windows 7 for students so I would like to pick up a copy and try it out.
Is it possible to run 3 operating systems through Boot Camp 3.0? I am not interested in running a virtual OS.
Current Setup:
13" macbook pro
Snow Leopard and Windows XP through Boot Camp

I have been trying to install Windows 7 (yes, legit copy) to my Macbook Pro the whole day, but I keep on getting this error message saying "Press any key to boot from cd or dvd . . . ."
When I press any key on the keyboard, nothing happens. I know this copy works because I've tried this on VMWare 3. (I'm going to Boot Camp of BIOSHOCK!)
What I've Tried:
Deleted partition, recreate partition and choose the Windows 7 disk as startup disk.

Well I installed Vista Ultimate using boot camp on my 27 inch iMac using 10.6.2 and now I can't get it to boot in OSX. I tried holding the command key when rebooting but it just goes into the windows part. Looks like windows took over. Does anybody know how I can get it to boot in Leopard?

Have the new 15" MBP with i7 Processor. I had another MBP with a 7200RPM drive and installed drive in the new i7 Mac. Computer was working fine until I installed Windows via Boot Camp. I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:
efiboot loaded from device: Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|1)/Ata(Primary,Master)/HD(Part 2,Sig********-****-****-****-************)
boot file path: SystemLibraryCoreServicesoot.efi
.Loading 'mach_kernel'...

I want to install XP using Boot Camp but when I run the Boot Camp Assistant I get the following message
Boot Camp Assistant can not be used
You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant.
Now I have tried all firmware updates available on apple site but they say they are not needed, I'm on 10.5.6 and a friend of mine with same firmware runs his boot camp comfortably.
My Boot ROM Version:MB21.00A5.B07
SMC Version:1.17f0

I just installed Windows XP to a Boot Camp Partition on my MBP. However, rebooting is a hassle and naturally I want to avoid doing such as often as possible. I think running Parallels Desktop would suit my needs quite well. But here's the catch: I want to be able to use one partition to serve both of those needs. In other words I want have the option of booting through both Boot Camp or Parallels.
How would I go about doing this? I already have a XP installed via Boot Camp. So if there is a method where I don't have to reinstall, great, but I am fine with deleting stuff.

I just got a new MacPro (running Leopard) and I'm trying to get Windows XP to work via Bootcamp.
I used the Bootcamp Assistant to create the partition, then install XP, and then from XP install the various drivers from the Leopard Install CD. But XP doesn't think there is a wireless card in the Mac, which makes me think it is a driver issue.

I want to hand over an old iBook G3 900MHz running MAC OSX 10.2.8 to my brother. I have a Powerbook G4, which I love. I've installed an Airport card as he was hoping to use it wirelessly however, it will not accept my routers password although I know it's right. Its a Netgear provided through SKY. Does the operating system need updating?

In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

My Airport Extreme isn't recognizing the IP address from my cable modem. When the modem is connected directly to my MBP the internet works fine. When connected to the router I don't get any internet. I have powered off the modem and router and all devices, brought up the modem first (waited for all lights to come on), powered up the router, then the devices. Still nothing. I've tried deleting the DNS server information and resetting - nothing seems to work. There is a green light on the ethernet port on the Time Capsule so I believe the port is fine.

The case: I want to plug in the Ethernet LAN cable from my DSL cable modem to my Airport Express so that it provides me with W-LAN for my notebook (Sony VAIO, soon to be MacBook Pro owner). The problem: The Airport Express doesn't recognize the Ethernet Internet - it just tells me that there is nothing plugged into its WAN port. (But the cable is!) If I plug the same cable directly into my notbook WAN port, it works fine so I guess there's no defect in the cable ... Settings are PPPoE (needed to connect to my Internet). Any other information needed? Just let me know. If anybody out there has a hint for me, let me know. I wonder if this is a Windows thing? On the other hand - as the Airport Express doesn't recognize that the Ethernet cable is plugged in - it doesn't matter if MAC or Windows cause this is even a step before the computer itself comes in play.

I manage a lot of WordPress sites, and during the rare occasion I move a site from one server to another, requiring a change of DNS numbers, I find that my MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad will see the change in a browser almost instantly yet my iMac may not see the change until as much as 24 hours later. I have cleared browser caches with no joy. Everything is running from the same WiFi router. So, what's the issue with the iMac. Is there a cache in the iMac airport that needs to be cleared?

I've been hearing good things about the Spinpoint Drives and the 750GB ones are coming down in price. Here is my current setup1 - 500MB Drive - Leopard2 - 320MB Drive - Vista 643 - 500MB Drive - FAT32 (Shared, Irrelevant)I plan on replacing drives 1 and 2 with 750GB Spinpoint drives. My question is, can I boot off of the Leopard dvd and put in Drive 1 and NewDrive1 and just clone it, and do the same for Drive2 and NewDrive2 and clone it? And then go into Leopard and resize the HFS partition, and go into Vista and resize the NTFS partition?

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate onto my Mac Mini using Boot Camp Assistant. On the Windows 7 install it reboots three times. On the third time, it boots to black screen with "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...." When I try to hit any key on my Apple Wireless Keyboard, it does nothing. Same thing when I hook up a wired USB HP keyboard to the mini. It is entirely unresponsive. I have tried letting it run for a while to see if it would move on. I have tried changing the startup disk in Mac OS X to the Windows partition but I get nothing but a blank black screen with a flashing underscore.

I have a Dell Reinstallation DVD with Windows Vista Business 32BIT SP1. The DVD is supposed to be pre-activated to reinstall Windows. I recently used it to reinstall Windows on my Dell laptop and I was wondering if the same disk could work to boot a Windows installation from my Mac (via Boot Camp). I'm barely using all of my hard drive space so I may want to do this in the future.
I'm using an iMac under Mac OS X Version 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I have a G5 tower, PPC, and after opening it up to see if an old soundcard would fit the slots, I closed up and - nothing.
My mac is whirring, fan activating as normal etc, but I'm getting nothing at all on screen, not even the dreaded question mark.
I've tried booting from restore discs, which works fine until I specify which disc to restore/install, where the installation program doesn't even see my HD as a location.
