OS X :: HDMI Out Of Range With Projector
Nov 8, 2009
I try to connect my projector Benq mp625p and MacBookPro(late 2008) via HDMI(adapter + cable). And projector tells me(on the screen): HDMI Out of Range. And, of course, MacOs doesn't see any external monitor. I think it is because, by default, MacOs wants to make mirror on the second screen, but max. projector resolution is XGA(1024x768). How can I turn off mirroring before the second monitor will be connected? But maybe problem isn't in just mirror display.
Additional Info VGA, S-video, Composite connection works great. And HDMI cable with adapter are 100% good(I have tryed them before on two plasma panels). Additional Info I've tried to connect this projector in BootCamp WinXP (on the same MacBook), and first time it didn't work, but when I set: Expand Desktop on the second screen everything began work properly!

Happy to find any solution to this including an HDMI splitter box, mac mini solution, anything from Matrox or Blackmagic design, or if it is more cost effective even buying a new imac if it can output two video signals at the same time. So basically I wish to feed the same computer output images via mini DVI to two HDMI projectors simultaneously.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I bought Monoprice's Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with a plan to connect my Rev C 1.83 MBA to my 1080p Sanyo PLZ-2000 projector with a DVI to HDMI cable from the MDP adapter. However, while the MBA sees the projector in the Displays pane, nothing appears on the projector. If I connect with my Apple VGA adapter to the VGA input of the projector it works just fine.

Right now to connect to Xbox live like this
~wireless = ethernet
Actiontec router/modem(verizonfios)~~~~~~ macbook=====xbox360
Right now my NAT is set to moderate and I am trying to open it. I've tried opening ports but there are so many IPs/computers in the network settings I feel like it might be interfering. Another thing is that I manually set my ethernet ip to 10.0.0.1 and my xboxs ip to 10.0.0.2. This is obviously not one of my ISPs IP adresses so should I change it to one that is in the DNS range?

My 13 inch Macbook has been getting kind of warm on the right side lately, and with iStat Pro it appears the temperatures of the picture I'm uploading. Are these temperatures normal?? Are the fans okay? I'm not sure, but I think it's been a little slow as well, and I've just bought it 3 months ago...

I just installed iStat. It is an AWESOME app! Where have I been? Are there any other must have apps?
To my main question ... I've noticed my temp ranges from 130's (F) to 150's (youtube). Is this normal?

When I got my 26" monitor the other day it worked right out of the box plugging into my 13" Macbook Pro. I am slaving it off the macbook w/o using the LED screen on the MBP. Just the external.
Yesterday I was trying to improve the image quality and changed the frequency (common bad decision) and am getting the common "out of range" message.
Now if I run the external WITH the 13" LED of the MBP it is fine as it's using a different profile/preferences to set the right frequency.
I have deleted the pref file that everyone on the net says to do with no luck
I have reset the PRAM and VRAM as suggested with no help.
Is there another location for the preferences related to this in Snow Leopard as most help I am finding is a year old to several years old. The pref to delete in old posts just doesn't do the trick.
Again the monitor works fine when used in conjunction with the screen on the MBP but is out of range when running solo with the MBP lid closed.

I got a friend who just moved into one of our apartments at back of our home and I want to extend the range of my wireless router so he can connect his PS3. The only two ideas I have so far was to get an extending phone cable and move the modem as close down the hall of my second floor abode, however I still don't think the signal strength be enough.
So I found out be repeaters and I like an explanation more as to how these works, what model/brand would be easy to configure for mac, cons, etc.

I just installed the iStat Nano widget in my MBP 15" Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz. Amongst other things, it displays the system temperature, which is currently at 32 Celsius. However, I do not know which is the appropriate temperature range for my system, so I cannot know which level should be an alert for me. Could someone inform me about the appropriate temp levels? Moreover, I have ordered and expect soon the new MBP 15" i7. Are the same temperature levels appropriate for all Mac machines, including my new MBP?

I have the last G5 imac made before Apple went Intel 4 years ago. It works fine. It has wifi.
But heres the deal. I just moved into an apartment in NYC. There are TONS of free wifi hotspots down the block from me that I can pick up on my ipod touch when I go outside. But INSIDE my apartment, my imac is out of range.
I need SPECIFIC advice on what I need to extend the reach of my imac to pic up wifi signals.
Again, these are FREE hotspots, so it's all legal.
Do I need an antenna? Or something else? Or both? What kind and how would I hook it up. How far is the reach? Be detailed, but keep it simple so a laymen can understand it.

I have a linksys wireless system set up in my home right now, but am trying to extend my wireless range to a few more rooms. I have tried to set up my Airport Extreme Base Station as a remote and have the linksys as the main station, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know if this is possible (i.e. have the linksys as a main station and Airport Extreme Base Station as a remote)? One a similar note, even after resetting the Airport Extreme Base Station and connecting it directly to the DSL modem, I cannot connect to the internet. The computers connect fine to the wireless network, but the internet will not load.

Using the Finder in 10.5.8, pressing Cmd-F to get to the Search window. I want to look for jpeg files created during December of 2008. I first specify file type = image, press the + to add another constraint, choose "creation date before" . . . today's date comes up by default, with little up/down arrows at the right to allow changes. Well, the arrows do nothing, and I can't edit the date string directly. The only change I'm able to make is when holding down the Alt key, which allows me to use the little up/down arrows to cycle through the months (but not days or years).

I'll be getting a MBP (hopefully soon, darn you update cycles!) to run Maya 2009 (also coming soon) and was wondering how it runs on the current mid-range MBPs. Is it 'fast'? Regarding current models, since we know nothing of the specs for the new ones: does the VRAM matter? Since I hear it all the time: am I better off running it under Bootcamp? (Maya 64 is Win-only.)

I'm used to Bridge now, it's faster than iPhoto and I can use my own folder structure instead of the ridiculous "events". Places/Faces and the slideshow of iPhoto is great though.
Anyway, when I'm in "thumbnail view" in Bridge, the thumbnails exceed my screen width. So if I'm on the most right thumbnail on my screen, and I go one right, it goes about 3 more pictures to the right (which I can't see) before jumping to the next row (starting at the most left picture of course).
And I don't see any sliders: no horizontal and no vertical. I can scroll vertically though, but not horizontally.

On the Bestbuy website they market the airport extreme as having the capability to become a range extender and the guy in the store said it would work with a linksys. The Linksys is a WRT150N. I have the airport extreme set-up in my room and it has a solid green light. When I go into the set-up for it I click join network and It sees the linksys and I select it and it says everything is working fine but it stays on the green light and the signal isn't being extended.

I have a bluetooth mighty mouse which I bought off of Amazon a couple of weeks ago, but I seem to be having some problems with it. I can't seem to connect to it when I'm more than about 6 feet away from my Mac Mini. My Apple wireless keyboard has no such limitation. I also have trouble connecting my mouse, but this may be due to the range issue. Is this the limitation of the mighty mouse? I once used one with my MBP and I never needed to check the range. As I bought it off of Amazon, can I still get it checked out and replaced at the Apple store if this isn't normal? I live right next to the Apple store and I don't want to get into the RMA process at Amazon. If this range is normal, I'm going to have to return it and buy a different mouse.

I currently have the netgear router set with an IP address of 192.168.1.1 with DHCP enabled and no security set up (i originally had WEP enabled but this made the problem worse.
I then have two sitecom range extenders set up connected to the router wirelessly to extend the signal in opposite directions. One is set up with an IP address of 192.168.1.2 and the other 192.168.1.3 with default gateway set at 192.168.1.1 and DHCP disabled. This sets the network up working for a short time however as soon as more than one machine tries to connect to the network it all shuts down. It seems that the setup cannot assign IP addresses to more than machine at a time.

I have Mac computers, and have a wireless connection using a standard O2 router. I'm just about to build the office/studio in the garden and I need an internet connection here, but the O2 box hasn't got the range. It's about 100ft between the router and the hot seat with a wall and some planting in the way. My question is this: Will an Airport Extreme base station give me more range than the O2 box? Will an Airport Extreme work with O2? Would I be better off laying an Ethernet cable along with the rest of the electrics all the way up to the studio and do away with the Wireless idea? Can a (approx) 100ft Ethernet cable give me a decent signal or is that just too long?

I'd like to switch from a hp dv6570el SantaRosa late 2007 (8400M with 128MB Ram). What I basically do with my laptop is:- emailing / surfing / etc- some development with Eclipse / start developing something for iPhone- basic audio recording- playing games (not at maximum rate.. I'm stuck with World of Warcraft.I don't think that the 15" MBP worths its price.Do you think that the 13" will be able to do this? I'm in doubt of the gaming, I don't want extreme performances, just something playable, and of course it will be better of what I'm using now.

My internet access is through a fixed point wireless access provider whoe's antenna is about 500 feet from me. The built in Airport card does not provide the reliable connection that a directional, hi gain antenna would.
With my pc laptop I used a Hawking Technologies usb higain wifi nic/antenna that greatly extended my connection range.
When I purchased my MacBook Pro, I ordered a Mac compatable wireless-g usb adapter (HWL2A) from Hawking expecting the same increase in wireless performance. To make a long story short, I found out that "Mac compatable" did not mean "Intel based Mac compatable."

I am having trouble with my Time Capsule's wireless range. I am not a networking expert by any means. I own an old building that is 4 stories connected by stairs with thick walls.
All the rooms ethernet cables converge in a cubby on the 3rd floor. I placed my Time Capsule in the cubby, but I couldn't receive a wireless signal from the 1st floor. This is ironic because I have an old Netgear G router that sends signals throughout all 4 floors.
So I bought an Airport Express to extend my network wirelessly, but the signal has been unstable perhaps because the Time Capsule's wireless signal is too weak.
So I want to connect the Airport Express on the 1st floor using the Ethernet link from the 3rd floor Time Capsule which is my main router.
From my research, I discovered about WDS networks, which I believe you have to use in order to create a network with multiple Apple base stations linked through ethernet.
I called Applecare who told me:
-To connect from Time Capsule to Airport Express using Ethernet, must use WDS network. Setup Airport Express as Relay, NOT Remote.
-Relay- Direct ethernet connection from Time Capsule to Airport Express, then wireless connection from Airport Express to Macbook.
-Remote- Wireless signal from Time Capsule to Airport Express, then direct Ethernet connection from Airport Express to Macbook
I have several questions for you wise people out there:
1. To extend the Time Capsule wireless network using the Airport Express, but connected directly via ethernet, do I need to setup a WDS network?
2. I prefer to just use the simple Apple settings "extend network wirelessly". Will this setting only boost a wireless signal received from the Time Capsule? Can it not extend a wireless signal sent directly from Ethernet?
3. I'm considering getting a Quickertek Triband antenna to place outside the cubby. Anyone have any experience with Airport external antennas?:
[URL]
Any information would be much appreciated! These networking issues have been giving me months of headache.

Connected with 2.4ghz. band to N capable Macs.
