There must be a setting that is just not right, but I can't find it. When I try to type in a message on a forum or message board, I can't use contractions. Every time I type ' it opens up a search box on the bottom of the browser. The only way I can use forums at this point is with Safari.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't like Firefox 11 one bit and am yearning for 3.6. I read online to drag firefox 11 to trash and that, of course did nothing to actually uninstall. I then dowloaded 3.6 and 'installed' that, restarted but still firefox 11 lives on in my computer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Mac and modem had easy passwords and I noticed someone connected to me in the attached servers list. At one point my wifes PC announced that the modem had no password. I checked my firewall that was not on and allowıng all connections. Need help as I do banking online etc and did turn on Console logs but to be honest I dont understand it all and only turned it on when I thought I had a problem.

Just Archived & Installed about 2 hours ago, and everything looks fine so far. No installation problems (though I was food shopping and by the time I came back things were fine).
However, the first weird quirk I found was that when I attempt to delete one of my inbox messages in Mail, it won't let me delete. I get this error message:
"The message "(e-mail subject name)" could not be moved to the mailbox "Deleted Messages - AOL Mail. The IMAP command "UID COPY" (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox "INBOX" with server error: UID COPY failed Deleted Messages: no such mailbox."
In OSX (Leopard), is there a way to allow the actual physical eject button on my external DVD drive to actually eject the disk? Obviously it is not a hardware limitation, seeing as I can do this just fine in Vista...
So is there a terminal command, a .plist to edit, or even some 3rd party plug-in that will allow this to happen? It is really frustrating when OSX is locking up due to a bad DVD or something, or if I am in a hurry and need the damn drive to spit out the disk PRONTO..
I am trying to create on my Macbook a mysql account but it doesnt allow it. I suspect it is the same one in the "/etc/passwd" file: _mysql:*:74:74:MySQL Server:/var/empty:/usr/bin/false I am curious though why in that same file I dont see my normal login account. Where is the 2nd list of users? Is it a plist file somewhere? Also anyone know of a utility that shows all the users including root and all the other special accounts in one place?

For some reason, when the storage unit is in, and I close my laptop, it goes to sleep, wakes up, goes to sleep, wakes up, and so on. Is there a way or some setting to just allow my MBP to just sleep with this Express Card inserted? It's really a pain to eject it when I'm using the data on the card and just need to close my laptop for a little while.

The first screen asks for my apple id and password. The second screen says I can be reached at my apple id then below it has two two buttons "Go Back" and "Done". When I click the done button it says I need to enter my email address, but there is no place to enter it.
My macbook is not letting internet through from ethernet or airport but when i boot up xp with bootcamp both work so the drivers must be fine, this problem might have something to do with when i turn the computer on it doesnt always start up it go to the gray screen with the spinning loading wheel but also it gets the loading bar which you can see for 30 sec till it gets about 1/32 of the way though the bar so not far at all and sometimes doesnt boot at all. I am running snow leopard and luckily used time mach.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought an mp3 and although the file plays in QuickTime or other media programs, the mp3 will not add itself into iTunes or even play it on either a Mac or PC. I've attached my settings (Windows, but my Mac settings in iTunes are the same) and I don't know what's wrong with this file.
It's frustrating because it's just an mp3 file (from everything I gathered from the meta tags/information) and I've never had any trouble adding files into iTunes by just double clicking on them but for some reason this is different.
In Firefox and Minefield I am able to post on peoples walls, but often I am unable to load their profiles well. In Safari, I am able to get to Facebook profiles, but when the profile is fully loaded, and I click in the area marked for writing on the "Wall" my text is grey, as it was when the profile first loaded and Facebook alerted me where I can write. When I click post, Facebook does not recognize that anything has been written, and will not post the text.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a friend that just switched to the Macbook pro and Timemachine and I set them up with iChat using their MobileMe name and I was able to screen share while I was there and video chat later at home. Today she needed help so I was going to screen share from work but it comes back immediately as 'XX has declined your invitation'.
It does not even pop up on her side for authorization. I can type / text her in iChat and that works. I had her send me a 'Ask to share my screen' request which I got, then when I accepted it it failed.
I can turn right around and screen share with my wife at home so I know my side is working. Is there anything in the TimeMachine (used as router to cable modem) that could be causing this or some other setting I am missing? I will have to try from home later.
I thought it was odd that it says declined right away. I have secure connection turned on and it shows we are chatting securely.
we have recently purchased Microsoft Office for the Mac and installed it on my wife's macbook, replacing an old version. The reason was that the old copy used to block her use of it in university due to it saying that their were other users using it at the same time. So we installed it, waiting for it to ask for a product key but it didn't at any time...? Consequently now when my wife tries to use it in uni the same problem occurs.
We have product keys coming out of our butt from the original box but no way of entering them. I have tried to 'register online' with windows but the website simply isn't working.
When I plug an iPod Touch into my MBP or a PC, iTunes starts automatically. Is there way to make it such that iTunes doesn't automatically but rather, when I say to start it?

In the dialogue box it says the bundle print settings could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture contact the bundles creator listed here for the latest version 1.29. I have updated to the 1.29 version and got rid of the gutenburg driver as suggested by another forum but it has not changed I still have the same problem.

The computers range from iMac G5's, Mac Pro's & iMac Intel Core 2 Duo's.Our AD (Active Directory) has been setup using Windows Server 2003 & Windows Server 208 Network Setup All Macs are setup to log into the clients via the AD plug'n. Binding is smooth and we never have an error with binding. All computers are sorted and placed into the proper bins. When a user goes to login they put in their user ID/Password as if they were at a PC (Windows) desktop and the user is granted access to login.

I plug in an audio input on my mac ibook G4 and go on system preferences which allows me to select my audio input as a source of sound input BUT when i then proceed to go onto Garageband, Garageband detects my audio input on its preferences but will not allow me to select and therefore leaving me unable to record from an audio input.

I just got a new Intel Mac Pro (10.7.4) and cannot access my network. My older G5's (10.5.8) used afp to log in but now I get this message.There was a problem connecting to the server. The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.Is there something I'm missing? My networked is wired and runs to Windows based server. All my other Mac G5's can still access the server the way I always have before.

I had to force shut down my MacBook Pro today as it was freezing up and not allowing me to really click on anything. All it let me do was close out of Photoshop. What happened was FireFox decided to crash and not reopen after attempting to install an updated version of Flash Player. When I rebooted after the force-shut down (holding down the power button to turn off my computer, which has always been effective in the past), I got a screen for OS X Utilities with the following prompts:Â
Restore From Time Machine Backup
Reinstall OS X
Get Support Online
Disk UtilityÂ
So, the first one is out of the question. In the 5 1/2 years I've proudly owned my computer, I have never created a Time Machine account/backup. I have preferred to use an external hard drive. Unfortunately, the other prompts would be A-okay, if it weren't for the fact that I've been lax in updating my backup and haven't backed up to my external in about 8 months.Â
Unfortunately, to Reinstall OS X, my computer wants to erase all my data, so I need the backup of my files. (I have a lot of photos on my drive). But it says I can't even reinstall, because the hard drive is locked..And it won't repair my hard drive. The prompts for why it should be repaired are: Invalid content in journal, Invalid B-tree node size, The volume could not be verified completely.Â
When I try to create a new image to backup to my external in order to wipe my system, it says "Unable to create "disk0s2.dmg" (invalid argument). Now, I am not totally computer illiterate. I can follow a set of instructions and do my own IT work basically 99% of the time. I don't want to loose my images or lesson plans (I actually just got my school issued laptop and was going to transfer school files over to my school-issued computer as soon as I finished with my Internet needs (bills)).Â
