Aug 25, 2009I'm new on the mac. Suppose I have a bunch of files open on the desktop. Is there a way to get a list of the files so I can bring a given file to the surface?

Software :: Opening Files In The Desktop Via Open With Option?
Jun 13, 2010I want to add a file to the Desktop, and I want to open it with a specific text editor (emacs) whenever I click on it. So far, I made that file, copied it into the Desktop directory, and I tried to set the application which opens it via a right-click "Open-with" menu item. But when I try to select executable for that file (again, emacs), that application is greyed out and I can't set that application to open it.
So, how can I do it. When I click on the file, I want a window to be opened with emacs running and editing that file.

Aug 17, 2006I recently downloaded a music production program (FXpansion Guru) onto my desktop. Out of nowhere all the files on my desktop dissappeared. When I try to open it i get: "The folder "Desktop" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." I tried to repair disk permissions but no luck... I have OS X 10.3.9.

Oct 30, 2009I just "upgraded" yesterday from a Power Mac G4 to a 17" MacPro. Among other adjustment problems, I can't open PDF files. The message I get is "You can't open the application Adobe Reader because it is not supported on this kind of Mac."
I've tried downloading the latest version of Adoobe Reader, an although it seems to download, I can't find it.
How do I deal with PDF files on a MacPro?

Feb 21, 2012I want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

Nov 29, 2009Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.

And not to the, sidebar. What do I do, they're not just shortcuts. I tried removing a program that I already have in the sidebar to dissapear from the desktop but I was unsuccesfull. I also want the Hard Drive to go away without deleting it ofcourse

OS X :: Finding Hdd Icon Location On Desktop After HDD Upgrade?
Jan 9, 2011I upgraded the internal hard drive in my MacBook Pro and cloned it from my old one via SuperDuper! after a Time Machine restore failed to boot. However, now the new hard drive's icon no longer sits in the top right corner of the desktop, despite it being selected as the startup disk. Instead there's just a huge gaping hole. If I move it there and then "clean up" the selection it shoots off down the other end of the desktop.
How can I permanently have the HD icon back where it used to be? I've tried repairing permissions and deselecting and reselecting the display of HDs in the finder prefs but neither worked.

When I double click on my hard drive icon, the finder briefly appears then disappears (just a split second) I cannot open the hard drive folder without it immediately closing. I can access material through another program, but can't go straight to my hard drive.

Apr 16, 2012An icon appeared on my wife's Macbook Air desktop and she has no idea where it came from, what it is or how to get rid of it. It has a red and white "pdf" icon with the title Acr790289319801612880.tmp. Nothing happens when it's double clicked, or if she tries to open it under "File" then "Open." I changed the extension to .pdf and tried to open it, but no dice. If she drags it into the trash it makes the sound effect of dropping into the can but remains on the desktop and doesn't show up in the trash. How to get rid of it?

Jun 16, 2010I have an external display for my MacBook Pro, and I'd like to run some short tutorial videos on the external display while I use my MacBook to take notes, recreate lessons, etc. The problem is that every time I click a new video to watch it, it opens on the MacBook display, which means I have to then drag the video over to the secondary display.
Is there any way to tell Quicktime to open the videos on the secondary display without resetting my monitor options? (I'd like my MacBook display to stay as the primary monitor.) I know I could just take notes on the secondary display, but the MacBook screen is a) connected to my keyboard (not a big fan of my non-MacBook keyboard. I like to call it my Windows gaming keyboard because that's all it's there for) so it's easier to use and b) it just looks better.
