View 1 RepliesI've had my MBP for about a year and recently I noticed that when I open Safari or Firefox it takes FOREVER to load a page.Even a small page like Google! I tried a reset for both browsers but that didn't help.I did some maintenance but no help there either.
This is my first Mac so I wanted to ask if I'm missing something.. should I be doing something maintenance-like that I'm not?
When I go to YouTube to look at any video with Safari ( 5.1.7 ) on my iMac the video never loads up correctly. I try to pause the video to let it load up but the video won't pause right away. Then I get the spinning beach ball. The video will not play until the entire page is loaded and the video has to be loaded before it will play correctly. This has been going on for at least four or five months. Now if I use Firefox ( 4.0 ) there is no problem at all. I don't want to use Safari for everything and then use Firefox just to look at YouTube.

I have an iMac model identifier 9.1, with Mac OS X v10.5.8 and safari version 5.0.6. All programs are running normally (fast) except safari. When I try to load webpages it takes about 11 seconds to fully load. All other computers in my house are connected to the same internet and running fine. What do I do to make the loading faster?

The ISP was just out and tested my connection. Any other computers are reaching 15Mbps whereas my Mac is speed testing at 6Mbps (when I'm lucky). There is inconsistency, reaching 0.1Mbps up to 6Mbps. I cannot open up youtube--It defaults to an html layout. Videos don't buffer. I also cannot open up any graphic rich websites. It doesn't take very long for webpages to load but they automatically fail to load the images. It's not an airport issue because the same thing occurs when I'm hooked up to my ethernet cable.

I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLoading web pages on my Mac Dual G5 is painfully slow, maybe 5-10 seconds to load a popular website (like this one, e.g.).
I'm running Safari v. 3.2.3, but the problem occurs with other browsers like Firefox and Camino.
I also have a Macbook Pro connected by ethernet to same router (Airport), running Safari 4.0.2, and it's just as slow as the desktop Mac.
My ISP is cable and various speed tests show download/upload speeds of 20 Mbps/2 Mbps. I have a PC running Windows Vista on same LAN, connected to same router, and it browses blazingly fast. So the problem is not ISP or modem.
As a lifelong Mac user, I hate to say this, but I'm jealous of my PC!
What could be the issue(s) and fix?

I've been having intermittent web browsing problems with our mid-2009 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.2... our network has an AirPort Extreme with an AirPort Express being the booster router, and the problem seems to have been pretty much only limited to web browsing, that is, other activities like emails, VOIP phones (we use a program called Bria), Skype and iTunes sample streaming seem to have been pretty reliable... I've tried deleting my safari cache.db file as another thread in this forum suggested, and it's a bit too early to tell yet whether that has made a lasting difference, but if it doesn't, does anyone have any ideas about what else might be causing the problem? If it helps, an iPhone 4 on the same home network seems to have significantly better performance when using its web browser.

I received my 11.6 base model Air today. So far everything has rocked about it except for one thing: web surfing. When it loads up pages it jitters when I scroll or will lag on my input. I'm thinking this could either be my WiFi connection, which is my parent's and I'm not use to these speeds, or if the Air is just not that good for web work.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded (or so i thought) from a Powerboook with OSX 10.3.9 to a new MacBook with Leopard.... Ever since the upgrade I have been experiencing slow browsing with both Firefox and Leopard. I was wondering if any other users had this problem and knew how to fix it?
Some things I experience are slow browsing, pages timing out, pages loading incorrectly, pictures not loading...
I recently replaced my old Linksys router with an Airport Extreme Base Station. And as soon as I did, I began to experience hideously slow web browsing, with pages often taking minutes to load.
I ran various speedtests, but they were all normal.
The problem is browser independent (Safari, Firefox even tried old Camino), and was not fixed by clearing caches, cookies, etc...
After searching the forums and reading about other peoples' similar experiences, I disabled ip6 on my computer (MacPro - 10.4.5), but that didn't help.
I did a hard reset on the router, and on the cable modem. I updated the firmware on the AEBS. No differences. So I reinstalled my old linksys and everything's back to normal (except the wireless isn't as good and it can't seem to handle video chatting in iChat, which the AEBS does fine, so I want to get the AEBS working).
not sure whats going on, when im browsing on firefox its goes really really slow, been doing it since thursday. any idea what i can do to figure out whats going on?
View 16 Replies View RelatedTitle says it all really, just really slow when firing up safari, wasn't so slow a few weeks ago, not sure if the safari update killed it, or whether it is just the flashy websites killing the CPU, though the usage doesn't look too high, anyone got any other ideas what might be slowing it down, apart from those mentioned above?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI only use my ibook g4 for the internet, but even this is slow, like half second delay on the menus etc (FF3 & Safari). I have run Onyx and cleaned it, but it is still the same. it has 640mb memory on tiger with over 3.8gb of free space on the Hard drive.
View 7 Replies View Relatedmy imac duo core, 2ghz, 2gig ram started slowing down a few months ago. it is connected by airport extreme router. the airport signal shows half of what it used to be but nothing has changed from before. if fact i brought my macbook pro right next to it and that has full strength and fast browsing. speed tests at the same site shows 400kbs-800kbs for the i mac, and over 2mbs for the macbook pro. in the same location and 30 seconds apart. both are running os 10.5.6
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my iMac for about a year, and since I first bought it, it hangs on at least 25% of the web page transitions, sometimes for as long as 20 or 30 seconds. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and it's become even worse. Doesn't matter if I use Safari or Firefox. Also, hanging affects my widgets (such as the weather Radar), but I never lose connection to Skype or Messenger. I've tried resetting both browsers, but I don't think it's a browser issue. It's connected via cable, not wireless. Also, I have my work laptop always connected at home and never have a problem with connectivity. I've lugged my computer to the Apple store.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro core 2 duo era 2007, OS 10.6.8, with an interesting problem I've not encountered in reading other issues. Here's the system profile, to get that out of the way: [code] Enabled Other than the faulty video card that seems standard for this run of the Pro, I have never had an issue. I have just replaced the battery from the original battery that came with the computer. It was useless to the extent of the word, but my budget did not allow me to purchase a new battery until recently. The battery info only stated "Replace Now" and the LED meter no longer functioned. The battery held no charge, and the computer only ran off of wall power. Up until a few days before I replaced the battery, this provided no trouble. However, it began one day to startup extremely slowly (5 minutes or more on the Apple logo startup screen, and then more time to load dock/top screen toolbar/etc. It also failed to recognize the external HD I frequently use with this computer. My theory was that it was simply underpowered on account of the failed battery, and the internal HD or the CPU was just not able to run properly. I finally put a new battery in hoping that it would fix the issue, but no avail. My startup time seems slightly less, but it seems as if the computer has not loaded interface protocols, as the computer is unresponsive to attempts to open the dock or a finder window, or even hover over battery or volume icons. After 5-10 minutes it finally kicks in and I can use my computer without problem, with the exception of the external HD, which will still not load.I have run disk utility, verified my HD, no errors reported. I have the activity monitor up which shows a pretty minimal load on the CPU and disk usage. Nothing I can think of would explain the problem my computer has suddenly adopted.

I'm not sure if many others have found this problem but my internet has been suffering recently.
I took a speed test on speedtest.net which stated that my download speed was 9.7mbps which is what I'm paying for, but still my browsing speed is ridiculously slow on all websites.
I've tried using firefox and chrome but they all seem to be having the same problem.
I am connected by ethernet as airport has full connection but can't seem to load anything. I have also tried to configure my ethernet connection manually as i read that this would help the issue.
Browsing the internet on my PowerBook G4 is incredibly slow.
I have 3 browsers installed (Firefox, Safari and IE) and it's the same for all of them.
I'm on a 512k ADSL broadband connection and using the built in ethernet port. Browsing is slower than on 56k dial up! My housemate is connected via the same router to 2 different PCs and he has no problems.
Strangely, on my mac, email and ftp uploading don't seem especially slow.
I'm back at my dad's place for the summer and I'm trying to connect to his house's wireless connection on my MacBook. It seems to connect okay when I type in our 10-digit password next to "WEP 40/128-bit hex" in the drop-down menu, but then even with full signal bars, it loads browser pages very slowly if ever, usually just giving me a timeout error and it's the same thing across all programs, my instant messenger takes forever to connect, WoW takes forever to connect, if ever, basically the internet I get from this connection is useless. It's odd because both my sisters have MacBooks and the internet works fine for them at my dad's house when they connect, and MY internet on my computer works perfectly when I'm using any WiFi but this one. By the way, the transmitter is a "D-Link 514 2.4GHz Wireless Router" and we're connected to cable internet.
Update:
* I have tried resetting the router and that didn't help.
* I have tried changing the channel, authentication method and password and that didn't help.
* I tried a DNS troubleshooting guide and it doesn't appear to be a problem with that.
A coworker asked me to take a look at her Macbook because after the latest Apple update, browsing Yahoo and Google have become unbearably slow. What's weird is that it's only those two websites that are slowed.

i have a problem browsing with safari on my macbook pro. i am able to launch safari and it loads my homepage. i can then browse from my homepage to a another page macrumors for instance. the problem occurs when i try to browse away from that page to another, macrumors to kvraudio for example. the page does not load. the blue progress bar across the address stops in the first position. safari then 'freezes' becomes unresponsive and then i have to force quit. i have never experienced a problem like this before. here are my macbook specs:
17" MacBook Pro (May 2009)
Dual 2.6 Ghz
OSX 10.5.6
Safari 3.2.1
Network: Wireless to Airport to Satellite ISP Modem
i am posting this via my old G5 with the same network config. which doesn't have this browsing problem nor does another networked iMac. can anyone recommend a course of action?
I have just recently got my first mac, moving from a windows computer.
On my previous pc on internet explorer there was an option for 'Private Browsing' which didn't leave any files or anything and the sites visited were fully untraceable.
On Safari i have noticed the same option, does this do the same (doesn't leave any cache or history or anything like that?)
In Safari 5, cookies from private browsing session aren't being erased after closing the private browsing session. The private session pages don't appear in the history, so that much works; I have no idea if the cache is being emptied. Is anyone else having this problem? I've uninstalled the add-ons I had (ClickToFlash, Glims) and turned off the new Safari Extensions, so I'm ruling them out as the problem.
MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz (early 2010), Mac OS X 10.6.4, Safari 5.0 (6533.16)
It appears as though there may be some suspicious activity occurring on the family computer. Firstly, "private browsing", "reset safari" and "empty cache" all appear under the edit menu in safari. I don't recall having seen them earlier, does this mean they have been recently used or is it part of the standard menu? Also, in the internet history whilst no webpages can be found there are some obscene jpegs. Images found in the internet history, have they been deliberately viewed or is it possible that they find their way there behind the scenes?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith Safari 5 if I open a second tab and choose a bookmark folder and "Open in Tabs" the original active tab disappears. I can get back to the original tab if I go back in the history and thus closing the tabs from the bookmark folder. So my question is there anyway to keep my current tab while still loading all the bookmarks in that folder in tabs?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble figuring out how the Safari tab preferences work with shortcuts to websites I have placed in my dock. I have "Open pages in tabs instead of windows" set to "Never," and I have checked "Command-click opens a link in a new tab." This works fine when I am clicking on a link in a website, but when I press command and click on the shortcut in my dock, the link always opens in a new window and not a new tab. Do these preferences apply to an outside link shortcut or just when you are clicking from within a website?

I'll just be doing basic web browsing with Safari on my MacBook Air and Safari will just unexpectedly close and then the error report comes up asking if I want to send it to Apple.
