OS X :: Erratic Mouse Cursor - Jumping Or Freezing
Problem: Was surfing on my Mac Mini when the cursor starts acting erratically, when I try to move it, either freezing or it jumps all over the screen. I have tried repairing permissions using disk utility, resetting the 'pram', used clamXav to scan for virus. starting in safe mode to repair permissions. Don't think it is the mouse its self, used it on Macbook and it's fine.

Power Mac G5 :: Erratic Proceedings Of Cursor And Mouse
I'm experiencing some highly erratic behavior on my Dual 2.3 GH PowerPc G5. These problems would appear to be caused by an erratic (haunted and or possessed) mouse-but I have swapped out the mouse and keyboard with another user and I still have the same problems where as they don't. I've also tried multiple USB ports. I first began experiencing these problems in Tiger but in an effort to eliminate them (and others) I wiped the drive clean and installed Leopard over it. Since the problems persisted I've ruled out software as the culprit. Because of my mouse/keyboard swap that part of the hardware has been ruled out as well. This is what it's doing: 1)Cursor occasionally "snaps" to a random spot on my screen when I move my mouse. 2)The screen "jumps" as if I've quickly scrolled up on the mouse. Sometimes it happens even if I am not even touching the mouse at the time. 3)When I'm selecting text in a paragraph, the selection will "jump" to a wholly different part of the paragraph and highlight text there instead. 4)If I go to move an open application window-some times a completely different app. Pops up as if the window was transparent and I clicked right through it. 5)"Expose" pops up on my screen as if I've pressed the center button of the mouse (which it's set on) yet-I didn't click a single button. 6)When making selections with the marquis tool in photoshop-midway through drawing the marquis, the computer acts as if I've already finished drawing it, stopping right in the middle of the marquis creation - then before I know it - I am moving the selection that was marquise around on the page. 7) When I type email sometimes the screen "jumps" back to where I was before I started typing and there's nothing there. I have to start allover again. One time it did this, showng me a screen without my typed message then "jumped" forward to a screen with my message still intact. 8) My widget screen pops up occasionally by itself as if I've pressed a mouse button. 9) When moving a single layer in the layers pallet in Photoshop-suddenly there's a couple of flashes (as if I did a series of things in rapid succession) and my layer disappears-most likely buried somewhere in a random spot in my layers pallet. OS X :: Erratic Blinking Cursor And Repeated Pinging Sound
I noticed this problem beginning (give or take) 3weeks ago with my iMac. I'm currently running Leopard with the latest update. It seems I have an erratic blinking cursor, no matter if placed in a URL field, a search field of any sort, or anywhere just trying to type something, the cursor seems to "take off" in this sort of perpetual blinking that I can't make stop. When the problem first began, after 2 restarts, my machine returned to normal. However, yesterday afternoon, the same problem re-appeared. When trying to close applications, the problem causes a repeated "pinging" sound. I've tried 3 restarts without any luck. I generally leave my machine on all the time with sleep mode activated. I currently use the wireless aluminum BT keyboard and magic mouse. The magic mouse has the latest drivers that fixed my wireless keyboard from dying after every 3 or so days. Nonetheless, I'm baffled, frustrated, and confused on this one. I even ran disk utility this morning to see if something was wrong with the hard disk. The utility finished saying the hard disk appears to be ok.

MacBook Pro :: Erratic Trackpad - Impossible To Control Cursor
The trackpad on my one-year-old MBPro has started exhibiting extremely erratic and intermittent behavior: - Taps react as control-clicks - Cursor jumps and becomes impossible to control - Drags and scrolls behave unpredictably The trackpad becomes impossible to use. Eventually, as now, everything returns to normal. I'm very experienced in the proper use of the trackpad and am familiar with the 'phantom fingers' phenomenon, so no need to advise against keeping extra fingers and hands away from the trackpad. This behavior has even occurred when standing well away from the computer: after fighting to control the cursor and restart the computer via the Apple menu, I left the room and returned to see a contextual menu of the Activity Monitor (set to auto-launch at restart) being self-activated. I'm starting to guess that this is related to heat issues. In support of this theory, the following: This behavior was first seen a few months ago when I traveled to the south of France where it was quite warm, and the computer had been playing video for some time. The computer was indeed rather warm. Now it's summertime and the ambient temperature is warmer (though here in the Netherlands, it's not exactly tropical). The last two occurrences of this behavior (yesterday and today) have been hot sunny days. After allowing the computer to cool, the trackpad behaves as normal. Others have reported strange trackpad behavior, but they seem to believe it is caused by defective or damaged hardware, or else user-error. It is often suggested they check their trackpad System Preferences. This post which supports my theory that this is indeed heat-related problem, also remarks that the problem is more likely when the battery is charging. MacBook Air :: Cursor Jumping Around While Moving?
Just got my new 13" Macbook Air today and have been loving it so far. I used it for a while during it's battery drain and didn't notice anything wrong with it. Now I have it plugged in and I notice the cursor is jumping around the screen while I move it. My fingers are as they always are when using a trackpad on Macbook so there isn't anything strange there. I am also only touching it with one finger. If I slowly drag my finger up and down it will just left to right. What's really strange is if I unplug the Air it will go back to normal. I did see a knowledge base article for troubleshooting this. It does mention something about 3rd party power adapters being a cause. I am using the adapter that came with my Air. Information: MBA Mac OS X (10.6.4)

MacBook Air :: Jumping Cursor Came Back After 10.7.3 Upgrade
since the upgrade to 10.7.3 on my MacBook Air (4GB mem) I am facing the problem with the jumping cursor again. I had this a while ago when using a Logitech M510, switched then to a Magic Mouse which worked fine. The cursor is not moving when I don't touch the mouse (I see some other people having that problem which is even more annoying) but when I move the mouse the cursor is following, then stopping, moving again etc. Now, with 10.7.3, this problem came back, so I assume it's directly related to the upgrade. And I have it with both devices now, the Logitech and the Magic Mouse.

MacBook Pro :: Cursor Was Freezing And The Entire MBP Freezing - Drop Down Menus Don't Highlight

Mac Bluetooth :: Magic Mouse Erratic With BT Apple Keyboard
I just bought a new 24" ACD, and a the wireless Apple keyboard (the small one). Immediately, I noticed my Magic mouse behavior erratic. It was lagging, stuttering, and all around a mess to deal with. I reset the PRAM/SMC (old standards), I deleted the mouse and keyboard, then paired them again, restarted. It seemed to work fine for a while, but then again it comes back. Could it be interference with the wireless keyboard? Besides the 24" ACD the only change was the wireless keyboard. I'm working now, but tomorrow I may try turning off the keyboard and see if the mouse exhibits the same behavior. I don't think it could be because of the new display. IMac Intel :: External Screen Flickering And Erratic Mouse Behavior?
I have purchased a screen Medion 25.5 inch to connect it to my IMAC 27 inch.I have noticed two unexpected behaviours:from time to time, after the IMAC comes out of the SLEEP mode, the external screen is flickering, I need to put the IMAC to sleep one or several times before the display of the external screen becomes stable. since I connected the external screen, the behavior of the mouse is highly erratic, eg when I move the mouse by a fraction of a millimeter, the display of the mouse pointer moves by half a screen, or even disappears completely. I have performed many tests, with several apple mice, a Dell mouse and a Microsoft mouse. As soon as I completely disconnect the screen (not only power the screen down) the mouse works normally again. IMac :: Stuttering During Video Playback - Magic Mouse Jumping Around
During video playback (itunes, vlc...) stutters every 50 seconds or so (no exact interval) and the video currently playing pauses for a few seconds, the audio however continues on. After the short pause it skips a few frames ahead. It doesn't seem like a big problem, yet it's very annoying while trying to enjoy a movie. Also, I'm not sure if these issues are related, but every minute or so my magic mouse jumps around the screen for multiple seconds (not only during a film, all the time...). Also very annoying, as I work with Photoshop & Illustrator, meaning I do very precise work with my mouse.

Its loaded with the current version of Snow Leopard, version 5.1.5 of Safari and version 4.5 0f the Mail App. The screen of the MBP freezes up 3 - 4 times per day. Ninety percent of the time Safari is open when this happens (some of the time, the Mail App is open as well. The remainder of the time I may have another browser open, but the Mail app is open. I can move the cursor around the screen and "force quit" any open applications except Mail and Safari when this happens. The icons for Safari and the Mail App in my Dock turn grey if I click on them. Otherwise the spinning pizza wheel shows up. I have to use the power button to turn off and restart the machine. I have tried resetting the PRAM. I also got a couple of error messages concerning Hazel (v3.1.1) via Growl on one occasion. Simply stated that there was an error when Hazel started to run, checking .docx files for Music and video. (Hazel runs from startup and I have rules set up to remove partial and duplicate downloads and clear all Trash files within a set period). I uninstalled Hazel, but the freezing still occurs. The apps I have running most of the day are Mail, a browser, Omnifocus, Preview and either Pages or Word in Office for Mac 2011.
