Final Cut Pro X :: Consolidating Used Portions Only In Project In 10.1.2

Jun 29, 2014

I have some video clips that are very large.  I have projects that use only a very small portion of these clips.  Id like to consolidate a project with only the used portions (maybe a handle on each side for future edits).  Is this possible with 10.1.2 and the new media management options, or is this still unavailable?

ITunes :: Track/album Article Sorting Script?

May 22, 2012

Am sorting/tidying my iTunes library and exporting to a new external hard drive. I am being a tad OCD about this....I have found scripts that are great and are helping but..... I would like to sort using the full title including 'A' 'The' and so on for artist, track and album. I can't find either a script app that would turn off aotosort or blank the relevant sibling field, I am hoping there is one. (There is a scipt for windows). My library is 100,000+ tracks compiled over the last few years so going through one by one would be extremely tedious.

MacBook :: Unable To Use HDTV As Primary Screen / Cuts Off Portions Of The Screen

May 12, 2009

I've got my MacBook attached to my 40" Sony Bravia HDTV (KDL40W4500), and when I mirror the display or use the HDTV as the primary screen it cuts off portions of the screen like the main toolbar on top, as well as some of the dock. I tried to change the Screen Format on my TV but that doesn't seem to work, does anyone know how to fix this?

IMac :: Using I7 HD Editing?

Sep 9, 2010

Im planning buying a new camcorder and are not sure which road to go in regard to video file format. Im planning using Premiere Pro CS5. I know the AVCHD format is very demanding for many consumer setups, but will this HW/SW setup do the job? I have also considered the Canon HV40 that uses the HDV format which is less demanding. Real time editing is of course the main goal. Anyone here who have experience?

Applications :: Editing An ISO?

Dec 23, 2004

I am trying to create a custom ISO for installing linux on dedicated servers, based on a standard ISO. For this, I need to edit a file which contains parameters for partitioning the HD, as I have replaced the supplied HD with a larger one on many machines, and want to modify partition creation, so I do not have to install fdisk and modify the /home partition later.

I have the ISO and can mount it, and edit the necessary file, but I cannot save it back into the ISO.

How should I do this? I've googled widely and found nothing.

OSX 10.3, Toast 5, trying to alter Cobalt Raq 4i ISO.

OS X :: Editing An Icon?

Oct 25, 2010

I want to be able to edit an icns file I have. I tried copying/pasting into an image editing application, but the transparency copies as a black background. Annoying.

I got the icon here. I basically want to take the Bender icon, add a beard, and rename it Flexo (for fans of the show). I have two identical raid5 boxes that will be mirroring each other, and I would like Bender and Flexo to be identical.

Anyway, is there any simple way to edit an icns file with OS X 10.6? All I need is to be able to add Flexo's beard, then save an image with transparency. I use iconverticons.com to convert to icns format, so I wouldn't need the application to save to icns.

Mac Pro :: Best Configuration For Editing DV?

Aug 7, 2008

I am planning to buy a NEW MAC PRO optimized for my purposes, which are: editing, with Final Cut Studio, independent movies originated on DV format. I'm primarily concerned with having a system maximized for speed in terms of real time editing as well as rock solid stability. So, my primary questions revolve around these issues:

(keep in mind cost is an issue for me - the total for tower and internal hardware should not exceed $5000)

First, is there much of a speed difference in Final Cut Studio between the 2.8 gHZ and the 3.0 gHZ processors - enough to justify the $800 price tag?

Second, I want to have plenty of storage space but I'm finding it difficult deciding on which hard drives (brand, speed, etc) are best for my purposes. (And for cost reasons I don't want to order the stock drives from Apple) Again, I would stress dependability and speed. My initial idea was to get three to four 750 gb or one tb drives. I thought I could have one drive be the system drive and the remaining two to three be raid 0 - arrayed for media storage. Is this a feasible storage configuration? Any consensus as to which brand and model drives out there are best for speed and dependability? And how about the Raid 0 setup - does this sound good, or any other recommendations? I know this is risky as far as data loss, so I was thinking of getting an equivalent amount of external drive space to back up to.

Third, I am wondering about RAM. Again I don't want to spend the $ to buy RAM from Apple. Two questions then about RAM: 1) how much realistically do I need for speedy editing? I was thinking 8 gbs - is this too much? not enough? 2) I need recommendations on which RAM brand and type to buy? And where should I buy it from? Again, dependability is all-important.

Fourth, is the 2600 graphics card sufficient for my purposes? Or will spending the extra $ on the 8800 be worth it? I will probably be connecting only 2 monitors to it.

Fifth, do I need any additional capture cards or some other video card? In the past I've always just captured video from my camera through firewire.

OS X :: Editing Folder Rules?

Mar 19, 2009

When I organize my Photo's I copy all the RAW images into a ' Lightroom imports' folder which is in 'Pictures'. I have also made a similar folder and want it so as soon as I copy files into this folder ' lightroom imports' it will automatically copy them into another folder called ' lightroom imports copy'

The reason been is that I have 2 copies of my RAW Photo's and so one copy will be completely untouched and the others will be imported into the Lightroom libary. I would prefer it to be automatic so that I don't have to copy them twice and also so that I know that what ever I copy into one folder it will automatically go into the other folder?

OS X :: Editing (Add Text) To PDF File?

Jul 29, 2009

I have a ton of job applications to fill out and hopefully turn them all in tomorrow. I have so many job apps, but rather than filling them all out by hand I'd much rather type the info into the PDF file directly and then print them out, ready to go. What's the best way to do this? I started out downloading Adobe Reader, later realizing there is a difference between Reader and Adobe Acrobat. Then after searching for a while I noticed the trial version of Acrobat I downloaded from Adobe's site is for Windows only; discovering Acrobat for Mac only went up to version 8.

There are no free trial downloads of version 8 for mac out there. I'd really hate to have to print out over 70 sheets of paper and fill them out one by one, box by box. Will "Preview" allow me to edit and add text on each job application? I'll respond quickly, as i'm looking for a solid solution on the matter. The only thing I've found, though don't really like it is uploading the PDF file online to a specific website and editing it there, text box by text box...seems, a bit of a hassle.

Applications :: MP3 Ripping And Tag Editing

Oct 20, 2009

For a community service project I volunteered to help out someone with their audio book. The audiobook is about getting your life in balance by looking through the lenses of the ancient Navajo Coyoteway ceremony. All the sales are going to charity and I need to help put it in the proper format on a website. Here are the instructions I've been given: "Rip the cd's into a relatively high compression mp3 format and tag each file. There are between twenty and thirty files on each cd and the idea is that tagging them for an mp3 player will be very helpful for reading the book and listening to the mp3's together.

Each file needs to be tagged in a way that references a specific chapter in the book. The idea of the relatively high compression will enable the smallest possible zip file (containing all three cd's) to be downloaded." I think I understand most of that but I don't really know where to start. They specifically told me to not use iTunes, I don't know why but that is what they told me. There are three CD's, each with about 30 tracks and I need to put each track in mp3 format and tag each file according to the page number of the book.

OS X :: Editing Files In Textedit?

Jan 18, 2010

Hi everyone! I made the switch to Mac recently after my Dell laptop crashed, and I had just had enough of Vista. I'm LOVING it and getting accustomed to it, but one thing is driving me completely CRAZY and I hate it-

I run a website and on my PC, I would simply edit the coding myself, in notepad. They are PHP files, and uploaded perfectly, no problems.

I opened the file to update the site tonight and it opened in Opera, and didnt show my code. I selected to open it in textedit, and edited it fine, uploaded, etc. After awhile, I found something else that needed to be updated and opened in TextEdit again and now it only shows me a PREVIEW of that PHP file, and not the coding. How can I fix this-- or what else can I use that's going to strictly show me the code only and edit it?
