OS X :: Distribute Printer Installation On Network?

Sep 16, 2009

Here's our situation:We're going to install 7 new network printers (the multifunction copier type) in our network of about 100 OS X computers (and a few PCs).I was wondering if there is a way to "copy" the print&fax settings from one computer to all of them. This would save us the time of manually adding and configuring each driver.I had a look at /Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist. "The document "InstalledPrinters.plist" could not be opened". Which seems logical as it is a 0k file.Nothing of use in /Library/Preferences either.Any hints/solutions?(We currently still run 10.5.6)

OS X :: Unable To Use Network Printer / Error 256 Using Printer Utility

Dec 3, 2010

I have been given an iMac g3 with osx 10.4.11 installed and airport card. My son will have this as his first computer. It is up and running and surfing the net using the airport connected to our home network. I have searched the forums and tried all the results I could find but am still unable to print from the iMac to my network printer.

iMac G3 10.4.11 osx slot loaded, airport wireless. Officejet all in one 6310 usb to pc running Vista. I have tried all the usual SAMBA and LPD methods listed going for generic printer, but get error 256 using printer utility, and NT_status_no_memory when using samba with all the settings, when trying LPD the printer service just stops.

I use LPD://user:password@workgroup/server/sharename and same for smb. I have set up a seperate account for the mac on the vista pc with password and started lpd service I've also edited the registry for lmcompatibility, printer sharing is enabled and both machines have the same workgroup name (WORKGROUP).

OS X :: Best Way To Distribute Files / Have Limited HD Space?

Jan 3, 2011

Ok, here's what I have:MacBookPro 15"85 GB hard drive2 GB RAM139 GB of photos on the hard driveExternal hard drives:128 GB drive that contains old PC files (including about 30 GB of photos not currently in iPhoto library)500 GB portable WD hard drive for Time Machine backups (188 GB free)1 TB brand new Seagate Expansion desktop hard drive, totally freshThe problem:Finder says I have 1.8 GB of free space on my hard drive. I have to do something about these 139 GB of photos. I access them more than anything but my HD is so clogged that things are not saving well. Even iPhoto library tells me it can't save changes, and I am just trying to delete photos! I am thinking of running my iPhoto Library off of an external hard drive. Do I even have enough memory to transfer it? Should I just upgrade my internal hard drive and use the externals for backups? What would you do at this point? I want to eventually install Photoshop and Lightroom. Just bought Photoshop Elements 9 and hope to use it with iPhoto. How do I put all these hard drives to good use?

OS X :: Airport Won't Turn On After Brother Printer Driver Installation?

Sep 26, 2009

After I installed Snow Leopard everything has been working fine but I installed the latest Brother fax/printer driver and supporting apps yesterday Airport stopped working. So I restarted the computer but still won't turn on, no matter what I do. I'm not 100% sure if they are related but it's hard to believe they are not. I can remove all the Brother related stuff but I still need the printer driver.

Has anybody had this problem and can anybody suggest a solution?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Make And Distribute And Image To Multiple Macbooks?

May 29, 2012

I am looking for a nice tidy option to create an image of a "master" client and distribute to a group of student Macbooks.  All the Macbooks are the same model and are all running Snow Leopard (though they were released with Leopard).  Initially, one of the teachers created a user account (called student) with all the software and settings that we needed,  on one of them and used Migration Assistant to copy that account to the others.

I prefer to have a master image I can restore to at any time. I figure that Disk Utility will do the job - I'm just not 100% sure of which steps to take. So far I have created my "master" macbook that is set up just the way I want it. Next I was going to attach it to the mac I use to run everything on (ARD etc) via firewire and boot the master in Target mode. Then I would run Disk Utility on my mac and use the New Image button to create an image called "studentPOD.dmg"  (There is room on my mac for this, or I can put it on an external USB disk) Is this correct, and once I have the image, how do I get it onto the other Macbooks?  Is there anything special I have to do to make it bootable?  They all part of a student POD and can be re-imaged at anytime without worrying about losing data...so I can afford to experiment...

Info:
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Disk Utility

Hardware :: How To Add A Network Printer?

Jan 24, 2010

My son gave me a working (on a pc) HP 2600n Color Laser Printer. I know it works, printed a test page from the menu.

But when I try to install the software, the printer doesn't show up in the add printer dialogue box. I'm connected via ethernet to my LinkSys 5 port Switch. Is that OK?

Is there some trick to making this work? I also looked for this specific printer in the find printer dialogue and Apple doesn't even list it. I'm using Snow Leopard... shouldn't the OS have just about every driver known to man?

Is this printer going to have a name or an IP address and if its the latter how do I determine the IP address of the printer? But it still baffles me that the mac install software on the CD doesn't do all this automatically.

OS X :: Can't Get New Wireless Printer To Find Network

Jun 6, 2009

I've been trying all day to get my new wireless printer to find my wireless network. No joy.

I have an airport extreme router connected to an AT&T 2WIRE modem. The guys that installed the AT&T stuff recently said I normally wouldn't need the airport extreme because the 2WIRE serves as both modem and router, however it does not work with an airport express, which I have in another room to boost the signal. So when the printer looks for the (SSID) network, it sees my apple network, which is what my macbook and windows vista laptops also see and connect to. After that, I'm entering the wireless network key from the 2WIRE.

I need some advice, I have a wireless printer that I would like to share using my home network but Im not sure what would be the best way to do this, since I have never done anything like this before. What I have is a wireless printer(HP), a MacBook (wirelessly connected), a MacMini (wired connected), a PC laptop (wirelessly connected) and a linksys router. Is there a way to share this through my router or do I need to install the printer in one of the machines and then share the print? What would be my best alternative to share this printer?

OS X :: Printing To Windows XP Network Printer Using Mac

Jul 15, 2010

Being the only Mac user in my house -however streamlined it is-, does hold a few problems. I have set up my iMac, and have happily joined my Windows home network, file sharing does work easily and neatly but as I found out the other day, printing from a Mac that is connected to a Windows based network can be very difficult. So for a long time now, I have been trying to set up my iMac (connected via WiFi) so that it prints over my home network. The printer; an EPSON TX100 is connected to the USB port in a Windows XP desktop and I have set up Printer sharing. The desktop is connected to my D-Link G604T.

I have added the printer through System Pref: Print & Fax:+:Windows tab: 'network':'computer':'printer' and have tried using both the Generic Postscript driver and the specified printer driver.

When I go ahead and print, the printer icon appears in the dock and then quickly disappears without a printout. I have replaced the ink and paper but still no luck. I have tried the methods suggested on some other threads, but none have succeeded. I would be happy to provide any extra information and try anything. Networked printing works with all Windows computers in the house including a NEC laptop, so why wont it work with a Mac?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Print To Network Printer Over VPN

Feb 16, 2012

I have a networked printer in my home network. I also have a (working) PPTP VPN set up to connect to that home network while on the road. When I open the VPN tunnel, I can adress all devices on the network, including the printer. I can ping it as well as open its Web front end (via Safari). The only thing that doesn't work is: I can't print over the tunnel! I've tried turning on "send all traffic over VPN", but that didn't help. Some research on the web seems to indicate that the solution lies in an option "Exclude Local LAN from Tunnel". This, however, is not an option for the built-in PPTP client in Lion.

Intel Mac :: Printer Doesn't Appear On The Network?

Jun 7, 2012

I have installed my HP designJet 500+ printer on to my iMac g5, which opperates OS 10.3.9 and I have no problems printing directly. However, I am trying to print to the same printer using my intel based iMac opperating OS 10.6.8 but I can't seem to 'see' the printer on the network.

I have made sure that the share printers button is checked on both computers and I have no problem establishing a netwok between the two computers (via ethernet).

Although the designjet is market as both shared and default printer on the G5, it doesn't actually appear in the shared printers list on the computer.

OS X :: MacBook Printing To Network XP Printer - Hangs On

Nov 3, 2008

I'm trying to connect my leopard macbook to a Canon Pixma MP210 that his hooked up to an XP machine. Sharing is enabled in XP on the printer and I can successfully add the printer to the mac in system preferences. I've downloaded the proper drivers from Canon's website and selected them for the printer. The problem is that when I try to execute a print job, the print queue comes up and hangs on status "printing."

Also, on the XP machine, the print queue recognizes a job is being requested but the status hangs on "spooling." The document never actually prints. Finally after a couple minutes, the print queue in the mac has an error stating: "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error."
