View 1 RepliesI have been given an iMac g3 with osx 10.4.11 installed and airport card. My son will have this as his first computer. It is up and running and surfing the net using the airport connected to our home network. I have searched the forums and tried all the results I could find but am still unable to print from the iMac to my network printer.
iMac G3 10.4.11 osx slot loaded, airport wireless. Officejet all in one 6310 usb to pc running Vista. I have tried all the usual SAMBA and LPD methods listed going for generic printer, but get error 256 using printer utility, and NT_status_no_memory when using samba with all the settings, when trying LPD the printer service just stops.
I use LPD://user:password@workgroup/server/sharename and same for smb. I have set up a seperate account for the mac on the vista pc with password and started lpd service I've also edited the registry for lmcompatibility, printer sharing is enabled and both machines have the same workgroup name (WORKGROUP).
I wondered if it was in anyway possible to print wirelessly from my MacBook. Seems simple enough right? Well, the thing is I don't have a wireless printer. It's a normal inkjet Epson and it's connected via USB to my desktop which is running Vista Home Premium. Is there anyway I can somehow forward the document to my desktop and it'll start printing? Oh yes, my router is standard, it doesn't have any USB ports. Also anyone know any wireless HDDs? Time Capsules rather pricey especially in the current climate.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Macbook Air, my first Mac! After a couple days figuring out how to navigate I am starting to get the hang of it. I want to network with my old Laptop PC to be able to see some files that I plan on keeping there. My question is this: Is it easier to set up a home network with Vista or XP?
I have Vista on my PC right now(and I've tried a few online guides to view my files but I can't get it to work) but I also have a copy of XP. I was thinking of wiping my hard drive on the PC and installing XP instead.
switch to OS X over a year ago and ever since that i have had problem with my network connection to my Vista fileserver (no it is not Vistas fault).
OSX finds my Vista computer occasionally, but almost ever when the Vista computer has been turned off over night and the OSX comp have been on over the night!
I have tried smb://IP but that only works for 20min or so, then it drops the connection, when i retry i only get an error message that says that i should control the servername or IP and try again, and if that doesnt work i should contact a sysadmin, that error message is not very usefull!
I have a Dir-655 Router if that has anything to do with this!
I have a 2.8GHz alu iMac running vista 32-bit through the latest version of bootcamp. All the latest drivers updates etc. are installed.
Today I was downloading a torrent using μTorrent. After I started it I left the computer running, my connection was fine at that point, as it usually is. When I came back (it didn't go to sleep), around 250mb had downloaded but it had since stopped. I saw that I didn't have a connection. I tried searching for networks, but the computer couldn't find any, which is strange since it normally finds around 6-7 networks, including my own. I ran network diagnostics, which told me there might be problem with the computers network adaptor or something, and that I had to connect it and then try again. I had no idea what that means, so I logged off and on to see if that solved the problem, it didn't. I restarted to OSX and my network was fine again. When I restarted again in vista it was still fine, so the problem was gone. I would like to know what exactly went wrong though, and whether it had to do with the torrent or not. I've left the mac running on vista while I was away before, and this has never happened.
they share the same wireless connection.
Can I share files between them?
How do you get a Windows machine running Vista to recognize a closed/hidden network? I have a hidden network that only works with certain MAC addy's, and I added the MAC addy of the Vista machine, but it can't see it / join up. I found something online that said you had to go into some old DOS interface to do it, tried that but it still didn't work. Any advice or experience with this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Vista business edition 32-bit (without SP1) on my Unibody Macbook Pro (late 2008 model). After that, I installed
1) Bootcamp 2.0 from a retail Leopard DVD and its upgraded version (2.1)
2) nForce 730i driver (from NVIDIA web site)
3) Geforce 9000M series graphics card driver (from NVIDIA web site)
Currently there are still several driver issues:
1) "Network Controller" driver is not working.
2) "Apple iSight" driver is not working.
3) No wireless device shown up in my device manager.
4) No sound.
I don't have my original MacOSX DVD with me. Does anybody know how to fix those problems?
My Macbook just went out of warranty then my superdrive went out. I need to use it very often so this is a huge problem since I cant afford to fix it. I do however have a compaq laptop running vista that is connected to my macbook via wireless home network. Is there a way I can use the cd/dvd drive to play/burn from my macbook? I would just copy the files over but there is no hard drive space on the PC and I do not have any flash drives I need to burn cds from itunes and I have a project for school I need to burn on a dvd.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy G4 laptop never had any trouble seeing/reading/writing to my Vista PC. My Mac Mini won't see it though. It has been a long time since I configured my G4, but I don't remember having to do anything special.
I've opened Directory Utility and don't see any SMB to configure. I checked Help on my Mac Mini and it wasn't clear enough for me to get all the information.
Just replaced a 500 gb time capsule with a new dual band 1 tb time capsule (first one died). My iMac, ipods, ps3 and wii all can connect to the network and work great. My wife's HP laptop, which worked fine 3 days ago, isn't connecting well. It picks up the "excellent" signal to connect to the local network made by the time capsule, but can not connect to the bigger internet. In other words, no browsing, email...etc. the signal is "excellent, and all other devices in the house can "see" and use the internet
View 3 Replies View RelatedOK so I just upgraded my Mac to Office 2011, which includes Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). I know that I cannot connect TO a Windows Vista Home Premium computer from the Mac, but according to the MS help files, I can connect FROM Vista Home Premium to the Mac.
I'm running both computers on the same wireless network, yet the Vista machine cannot connect to the Mac....can't even ping the Mac IP, as a matter of fact. The IPv4 addresses that show are the router IPs (from ipconfig), and they of course begin 192.168.xxx.xxx.
I have an Airport Extreme network with an XBox 360 hooked up to it via ethernet. I would like to be able to use the XBox 360 as a media extender using the Windows Media Center running in Vista on my MacBook Pro. Vista Ultimate is running under VMware's Fusion and not as a bootcamp partition (not sure if this matters, but thought I'd mention it just in case). The MacBook Pro is using Wi-Fi (N) to connect to the Airport Extreme.
I followed the directions on the [URL] page, and all four things below that are required to be checked (given permission to run) or running as directed, yet I still get the message stating the Xbox could not be found. UPNP is indeed running.
What am I missing? Do I have to open ports on the Airport Extreme, even if the computer and xbox are on the same network? Do I have to open anything on the MacBook Pro on the Mac OS side?
I bought a new extreme router, and hooked the HP network printer up, and now I can see it in the print prefs, but cant seem to print.
Anyone know how to fix this? I have tried HP support but they don't seem to be much help.
I am having difficulty connecting to/using my school's network dell printer (a Dell m5200n).
I have the printer's IP address which I have input into add printer "Address," but do not know where to go from there. I am using Line Printer Daemon protocol and do not have the drivers for the printer.
Is there some simple fix for this?
I can't find my HP PSC 1350 printer. The printer is connected to Windows Vista sadly. Two of my Windows XP computers can connect and print. I have even downloaded an HP setup assistant and that can't even find it.
btw im new to the mac world, trying to figure out the basics.
My son gave me a working (on a pc) HP 2600n Color Laser Printer. I know it works, printed a test page from the menu.
But when I try to install the software, the printer doesn't show up in the add printer dialogue box. I'm connected via ethernet to my LinkSys 5 port Switch. Is that OK?
Is there some trick to making this work? I also looked for this specific printer in the find printer dialogue and Apple doesn't even list it. I'm using Snow Leopard... shouldn't the OS have just about every driver known to man?
Is this printer going to have a name or an IP address and if its the latter how do I determine the IP address of the printer? But it still baffles me that the mac install software on the CD doesn't do all this automatically.
How can i add my hp printer which is on network to my mac 10.7.3.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Desktop running XP connected to a Linksys router. Also, there is a Canon MX700 connected to the router via ethernet. I would like to set this up so that both the Mac and PC can print to the Canon over the network. The Dell prints fine to the Canon, but when I try to enter the IP address of the printer (192.168 etc.) into the macbook, things do not work. A window comes up saying "192.168... is busy. Will try again in 20 second.

View 3 Replies View Related3 iMacs on network (running Leopard) are not recognizing the printer that is connected to iMac running OS X 10.3.9. Attempted to make some changes in Terminal on the Leopard' macs in regards to the CUPS protocol that the 10.3 version of OS X uses to recognize networked printers but it didnt seem to work.
Note: I did attempt to add --- cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd" --- to the Terminal in accordance with an article on Apples support area but the Terminal responded with "unmatched".
I'm trying to print some documents from my new MacBook aluminum. The printer is connected to a computer which is running Vista. I can print documents from my old dell laptop and my PC desktop which are both running XP over the network. I can also share files between them all. I can see the files that are shared with the MacBook but I cannot select the network printer. Please keep in mind that I am new to OS X leopard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying all day to get my new wireless printer to find my wireless network. No joy.
I have an airport extreme router connected to an AT&T 2WIRE modem. The guys that installed the AT&T stuff recently said I normally wouldn't need the airport extreme because the 2WIRE serves as both modem and router, however it does not work with an airport express, which I have in another room to boost the signal. So when the printer looks for the (SSID) network, it sees my apple network, which is what my macbook and windows vista laptops also see and connect to. After that, I'm entering the wireless network key from the 2WIRE.
Here's our situation:We're going to install 7 new network printers (the multifunction copier type) in our network of about 100 OS X computers (and a few PCs).I was wondering if there is a way to "copy" the print&fax settings from one computer to all of them. This would save us the time of manually adding and configuring each driver.I had a look at /Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist. "The document "InstalledPrinters.plist" could not be opened". Which seems logical as it is a 0k file.Nothing of use in /Library/Preferences either.Any hints/solutions?(We currently still run 10.5.6)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying everything I can think of to get 2 PC's on our home network to print on my Canon MP610 which is connected via USB to my MacBook Pro and the two PC's recognise the printer and add it as a device but when I try to print, the message "access denied, unable to connect" is displayed. If it's of any relevance, I cannot get the PC's to access the Public folder on the MBP over the network either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need some advice, I have a wireless printer that I would like to share using my home network but Im not sure what would be the best way to do this, since I have never done anything like this before. What I have is a wireless printer(HP), a MacBook (wirelessly connected), a MacMini (wired connected), a PC laptop (wirelessly connected) and a linksys router. Is there a way to share this through my router or do I need to install the printer in one of the machines and then share the print? What would be my best alternative to share this printer?
