Sep 1, 2014I have a new Mac Pro running Maverick bought when my IMac running Leopard died on me. The reason I never upgraded the old IMac was because of FCP 6 which I did not want to lose. I backed up regularly onto Time Machine and kept my FCP project files on an external hard driveÂ
I was part way through editing a project when my IMac died. I bought 7toX thinking I would be able to import it but now find that I can't because you have to have FCP 6 or 7 already installed to do so, which you can't with OS 10.9.4.Â

Sep 12, 2014I just purchased a new 15" MacBookPro, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB memory and using OS X 10.9.4
I have a SanDisk Compact Flash disk with MXF files on it from my Canon XF 100.
I have had no problem importing the files onto my MacPro. using a Ultra Card reader with USB2
But now I am using a Transcen USB3 Card reader on my new MacBookPro and it does not recognize any of those same files to import.
I get the message, "No importable files selected."
The only difference I can see between the old MacPro and new MacBookPro is that when I select "Import Media" the CANON XF drive shows up as a DEVICE on the MacBookPro instead of a CAMERA like it does on the MacPro.
Final Cut Pro X :: File Naming Scheme Change When Importing AVCHD Files
Jul 1, 2014After updating to 10.1.2 it seems that FCPX now uses a different file naming scheme on imported AVCHD files. Â
Previously on import, it would use a file naming scheme based on date ie. '2014-06-14 10_49_47 (id).mov' etc. which is great for me as I could see exactly what date & time that clip was created at a glance in the event viewer, also when a camera on a shoot had it's time out by an hour due to an incorrect daylight saving setting, I could use easily go through the clips tweaking the time in the file name & then they would show in the correct order in FCPX.Â
Now 10.1.2 just imports the clips using the useless file naming scheme of 'clip #1.mov' etc ...
Any way to get FCPX to import using the old naming scheme - or am I now boned if I have a camera set incorrectly ...
OS X :: Setting Desktop Backgrounds - Browse Files Within Finder
Jul 15, 2009I have only been a Mac user for about six months now but there is a problem I can't figure out (maybe it can't be done). Is there anyway when you are browsing files within Finder (or viewing a picture in Preview) that you can select a photo and have it immediately become your desktop background. I know in Windows I was always able to do this by just right clicking on the file and set background was an option. The only way I've found to set the background on my Mac is to right click on the desktop and then choose the "Change the Desktop Background" option and do it there. I can also do it within iPhoto or Picasa. But quite often I'm just browsing through my files in Finder and I run across a picture I'd like to use for my background. Surely if you can do it in Windows you can do it somehow in Mac OS.

The files are mp4 which I've never had an issue with importing before. The program was working just fine a few minutes before this happened.

Jun 19, 2014I´m completely new to the world of plug ins etc and has shot for the first time with a Sony PMW EX1. I now need to convert the footage to import it to FCPX. (I normally shoot with a DSLR so no trouble with import)Â
I have downloaded the PDZK-LT2 - Camera Import Plug-In Version 1.0 for Final Cut Pro X from Sony and opened the zip filed, moved what I got (file, dmg, zip and pdf) to the Application Support File in the Library. If this isn´t what I´m supposed to do - what and where?Â
Should FCPX recognise it when I want to import the footage and choose the plug in instead of the normal importer, or do I need to run it through the new plug in first, then import the new files to FC?? I can´t find any beginners info on this and it´s a bit lonely here trying trial and error with a tired head. I assumed it would just show up when I try to import it.Â
OS X :: Importing Hard Drive Footage In To Final Cut Pro
Jul 1, 2008I got a Sony HDV HC9 today and I'm trying to upload some footage into Final Cut Pro. Now every so often it's coming up with "DV device cannot be initialized". I have no clue why this is. Is it something to do with the iLink being on or off? I have the import settings as 1080i50i so that shouldn't be a problem. I think i'm just doing something silly without knowing but it's driving me mad.

Final Cut Pro X :: Importing Media From Multiple SD Cards?
Aug 21, 2014After using FCP 7 for years, I have finally moved to FCP 10 and completed a course which didn't deal with this basic question. I have for example 3 SD cards, with video clips on them, lets call them, 1/ wide shot, 2/ close up and 3/sundry. I have created a library and have no problem importing data from SD_1, but I cannot work out how to eject SD_1 and insert SD_2 to import data and so on. Even after the MBP has imported, rendered and shows all background processes as "Idle" if I try to eject SD_1 it shows a message, "Card in use".

Mar 26, 2012My mac mini is an i5 2.3ghz with 8 ghz RAM with a 240 GB SSD. I import and edit a lot of videos using imovies and final cut.  a week or so ago final cut x started slowing down a lot and crashing and then imovie started wit hthe same simptons, i've tried reinstalling both, deleting the full .plist and preference files, i tried installing a fresh lion install and then installing just imovie and final cut and the same thing happens. does anyone have any idea of what the problem might be ? the fact that i used a fresh installation of lion and saw the same issues makes me believe it's a hardware issue but nothing else seems to slow down or have problems. Is it maybe the RAM? Â

Sep 10, 2014Importing a small motion movie into fcpx and I get this error "There is not enough disk space available at the selected destination. Please choose another one or clear some space" the destination is a new 6TB raid thats empty. I've created a new library on that drive and still get the same error!Â

Jan 2, 2010We got a Flip video camera for Christmas, and I'm trying to find a way to easily import the videos into a specific folder on my MBP.
I'm sure there's an automator action or folder action to do this, but I don't even know where to begin for that.
What I want to do is be able to drop the files from the Flip into a specific folder, but I want those files to be automatically renamed into a sequential order once they are dropped in. As it stands, the files are named VID00001, VID00002, etc., and when those are dragged and dropped into a folder on the HDD, the retain that numbering. They are erased from the camera, and the renaming starts all over again.
What I want to do is to be able to drop those new files from the camera into the same folder, and have the numbering pick up at 00003, 00004, etc.

May 18, 2010I have just got my first mac and I am really enjoying it so far. I am trying to import video files from the hard drive in to iMovie, the video clips were captured using a Panasonic lumix tz7. I think the format is AVCHD or m2ts? , and my Mac is a macbook pro 17inch i5. Is there something I could be doing wrong or some software that I needed when I purchased my computer (when I purchased it from the apple store the genius's said that format was compatible).

Apr 25, 2009I have imported my DVD collection into my hard drive so I can have the entire TV series on my Mac without swapping DVDs all the time (I want to access them via Front Row). Currently the format is AVI and cannot be imported into iTunes. I can however open the movie in quicktime, save as a reference file, then import into iTunes. However, this would take me hours and hours with my video library. If I convert them to *.mov format, it would also take hours and hours. I know there's a program called videodrive that will import them all, but I'd like to buy it only as a last resort. Surely there must be a way to do it via Automator or something?

Jul 15, 2009I'm using a rather old version of iMovie (iMovie 3, actually) and this old dinosaur is having trouble uploading some clips I took of my screen using the trial version of Screen Record 2. I used it once before (Same program, same file format and everything!) and it worked fine, but now all of the sudden it won't accept the files.

I have no problem importing the Garageband file into iMovie, however I cant find how to make them go in sync - for example when I start singing in the GarageBand file isn't when I start singing in the iMovie video.

Aug 1, 2010I use a MacBook which is installed with Leopard and is running the latest version. After an email crash, I had to export a number of my folders to my desktop. Now that the problem has been resolved and I want to import those mbox folders back into my iMail (which is running my Gmail accounts) I am not able.
I use the File-Import function and follow the steps. It looks like it is working but after the import the files and the folder are not there.

ITunes :: Converting Files When Importing - AIFF To AAC?
Jun 5, 2012I was working with my brother import his cds into Itunes on his new Mac. I told him to import them as AAC files, but unfortunately he thought I said AIFF. He has imported his whole collection at CD quality, but now his computer is nearly full with his Itunes library. Is there a way to move the files to another hard drive, then create a new Itunes library, and have Itunes convert the AIFF files to AAC files when you drag and drop them into a new library? Or does he need to re-import his whole cd collection? The other option I thought of is to export as AAC from Itunes?
