Ive just gotten a 2nd hand eMac G4 800Mhz running OSX 10.4.1 when I put a dvd in to play nothing happens - the appliactaions folder says I have a dvd player (occupying 38 odd MG of space) but when I try to opn it i get this message �There was an initialization error. My computer science professor, who also uses tiger (on an older machine than mine), has a much better DVD player that he uses for class.
His has a tracking bar (which the dvd player i have does not) and a lot of other things I'd like. So how do you get a better DVD player for Tiger?
Ive tried over and over to upgrade. I uninstalled the old flashplayer, installed the new version, did a disk repair and nothing.The only way for me to view a flv video is to go to “open with” and use Realplayer. It says it’s successfully installed but when I try to view a video the only thing that happens is that another window pops up that is completely blank but has a title that reads:

I have just bought an older G5 PowerMac.....1.6, 1.25gig Ram. It came with Tiger and DVD's were recognised and dvd player started. I added another hard drive and installed leopard on this drive.....now DVD,s won't show u at all. The superdrive see's cd's ok and I can rip them to itunes but dvd's..
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro 15" wouldn't turn on a couple of days ago but yesterday i turned it on and everything seemed to work. Then i realised that the iSight and bluetooth weren't working. Apart from that it was fine. I then decided i wanted to use windows through bootcamp but when i tried to start it up it just black screened and didn't boot up. I then realised that it might be my graphics card so i went into system profiler and found this. I then tried both the PRAM reset and a SMC reset it didn't fix it. Is there anything else i can do? Or should i just take it to apple?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was told my date and time was pre 2010 ?!?! checked and yup it was showing Jan 1st 2001.. set the date and time manually charged the iphone via USB then went out.Tried to text my wife and noticed her number was no longer recognised (Number only showing, not name) and that all texts sent this morning where appearing at the bottom of my text list not the top as normal (Figured this out as the iphone had synched with the messed up time and date on the Mac). I re entered her number and when I try to call it it tells me the number is not recognised??
View 7 Replies View RelatedOk so I've got a MBP bought back in november, with Mac OS X Leopard. My problem is, when running windows, Bootcamp 2.0, no mic will be recognised. Neither the built-in, nor any one you connect will work. Doesn't matter if it's usb or jack, it won't work (even though it's recognised).
I'm working with Realtek HD audio drivers, as I didn't even have sound after installing Bootcamp.
I have a mini, about 4 years of age, since the update to 10.6.4 when the mouse is attached to the keyboard it is nor recognised on startup unless I unplug it and plug it in again, when it springs to life. It is not an apple mouse, just a cheapo boa usb mouse. The keyboard (aluminium, same age as mini) is plugged into a powered usb hub. I have played around a bit and even when the keyboard is plugged directly into the mini the mouse is not seen at first. However, when the mouse is plugged directly into the mini there are no problems.
I have swapped the mouse with a variety of other mice including one from an ancient imac, it makes no difference. Is this a symptom of possible keyboard failure to come, or something else?
My Macbook will not boot up. I am now faced with a plain grey screen with no apple logo, chime sound or activity wheel appearing.
Like most Macbook users I know, I rarely go through the booting up process from day to day use unless the System Updater requires a restart, but this time there was a different reason for me restarting the system.
When I was expanding an archive with Stuffit Expander, the app froze up. I went and deleted the archive file knowing that it was corrupt, but I did this too soon before the app had a chance to close down properly. It became stuck as a process that couldn't be closed down. Its dock icon didn't have a 'Force Quit' menu option so, I chose to perform a restart.
The Macbook went through the startup process but took a very long time. (I guess after reading around the forums this was fsck attempting to scan and repair the potentially damaged hard drive). I mistakenly performed a hard reboot thinking the system had hung.
The second time, it displayed the apple logo and wheel for about 2 minutes before showing a circle with a line through it and no further activity. When I rebooted again the apple logo and wheel were displayed with the hard drive activity audibly in a repetitive on and off state. I left this for about 15 minutes before deciding to turn it off. At the present moment it starts up to a plain grey screen as mentioned at the beginning. I tried experimenting with removing the extra 2gb memory module but there was no difference with or without it. I tried resting the NVRAM with Option-Command-P-R but all I got back was the startup chime (i.e. the muted volume I had it at has now reset to the default level).
When Option is held down on booting, the mouse cursor is visible over the same blank grey screen. No volumes show up. I have selected the Finder Preferences option to hide all volumes from showing up on the desktop, but I doubt this would affect volumes from showing up on the boot up screen.
I have tried booting from the 10.4 CD that came with the Macbook and the 10.5 (retail) DVD. The 'C' or 'D' keys do not have any effect either.
I think my options now are either to try and obtain a firmware reset CD which might make it possible to recognise volumes again, or there's the possibility that I'll have to get a new hard drive. Can you suggest anything else I might be able to try?
On the subject of hard drives, if it turns out that the Macbook's hard drive is beyond repair and I need a new drive I only have a caddy for 3.5" PATA drives which I use for Time Machine. With an appropriate 2.5" SATA caddy is there any way I could access the filesystem in Windows? How else could I format the drive to the correct FS?
I have a HP Photosmart B110 printer/scanner and I'm running OSX 10.7 Lion, I have no dramas printing but the scanner is not recognised.If I go to System preferences> Print & Scan, it shows the printer but won't show the scanner!! I obviously want and need to use the scanner but am unable!

have in the past few weeks uprgraded from tiger to leopard.Everything has been ok but i think i might have deleted some vital part of Quicktime player when i tried to clean up.I only realised this when i decided to get Quicktime player pro which i have paid for and have the key..I have tried to download quicktime from apple support website and just about any other website for that matter but zero.zilch.Installer takes me through the process but i get no player.
I have tried to remove all components of quicktime but to no avail.the download intalls but goes nowhere.Have tried to maybe 'jumpstart' it by double clicking quicktime time movies but there is just nothing going on.

Digital movies play just fine on my camera, a NIkon Coolpix but once I import them to either quicktime or windows media player they do not play smoothly. Any ideas why or what I can do to correct this?

I have an iMac g4 800mhz, 768 mb of ram 40 gb internal HD and 250 gb external HD. I plan on upgrading to Tiger this wednesday. Also, my mac has been a bit quirky over the last year or so. The internal HD seems to almost spin constantly. It spins and spins....spins down, then right back up again. Weird. Once in a while the apps act strange as well. So, I plan on doing a clean install of Tiger. Everything is backed up on the external HD.
My question is, does anybody know how Tiger will run on my system? Will doing a clean install eliminate these "quirks"? And finally, will quicktime 7 finally run smooth with the upgrade? Right now, Quicktime isn't as smooth as it used to be with Quicktime 6.
So i finally got around to upgrading a couple of my powerbook g4's. Im upgrading a powerbook g4 from tiger to leopard. My question is how can i do a full reformat (not the archive install) and keep all the programs i have on it like ms office and adobe?

I am wanting to revert back to Tiger from Leopard. What is the best way to accomplish this safely? I use iCal extensively and Apple really messed with it. The added features in Leopard do not add enough real functionality to make me willing to lose solid features.
