OS X :: Creating External Bootup Drive In 9.2.2

Feb 28, 2009

One of my macs is an older Power PC G4 867GHZ 1.5G Ram and it is running OS 9.2.2. I have software on it that has been rock solid for a while and thus I haven't upgraded that machine. The main boot up drive is starting to give me errors and crash and I cannot repair the issues with normal tools. I want to clone the internal startup drive to an external drive to use as the boot up. Is this possible with something like SuperDuper or is this even possible to do at all in 9.2.2?

IMac (Intel) :: Moving Files To External Drive Not Creating Hard Disk Space

Sep 2, 2014

My 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity.  350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie.  I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.

After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash.  I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.

I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).

Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else?  How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?

Software :: IBook G4 Unable To Mount New Internal HD - Bootup With External Hdd

Jan 10, 2009

i bought a ibook G4 off of a friend and knowning it needed some repairs it needed a new Harddrive. He had a 100Gig Seagate replaced in it before me and I tried a new 60Gig when I got it.either one of us couldnt boot either HD, we can not find the new Internal HD with the Mac. I can boot off a External HD holding down ALT. And i already tried clearing the P-ram many times.

Also when i go to load a 10.3 OSX disk it loads and either gives me a red circle X or like sorta artfacts and shifts the apple screen to the side of the page. Ive spent hours trying to fix this and have no luck. do i need a 10.4 or 10.5 disk? i did add 256MB ram to it so heres the specs. I have no clue what to do. ALSO! when i boot the external under the specs it wont show the HD under disk utilty or the about my pc info...

Power Mac :: G4 Ejects DVD Drive On Bootup?

Mar 21, 2012

Since aquiring my own Mac G4 digital audio for dirt cheap (£0 ) I've been reassembling the peices. It works entirely, but I have a strange problem with the optical drives. Since the guy I had got it from removed almost everything (RAM, CD/DVD, HDD), I used spare parts to get it running. It boots into OSX 10.5 fine and everything seems to work ok, but upon powering the mac up, it ejects the DVD drive tray when the gray screen shows. It's done it with every drive I have tried and stops me from booting from CDs.

Is there any reason it could be doing this? These drives I know work 100%.

Hardware :: Creating FAT32 Partition On External Hdd On Mac Osx?

Oct 5, 2008

I am trying to reformat a 500 GB USB HDD to one FAT32 partition so that I can use it on a Mac and a PC. I have seen many references to using the disk utitilty and creating a partition in MS-DOS format, but my computer does not have that option. The only four options I have are Mac OS Extended, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Unix and Free Partition. Am I missing something here?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Keeps Creating An 'F' Drive In XP?

Aug 14, 2010

I have loaded XP with boot camp on about 20 IMAC's over the last 6 months at my work. Everything has gone fine until about 1 month ago. When finished instaaling the Mac drivers and when rebooted, in XP, boot camp creates not only the 'C' drive labelled "Boot Camp", but also creates and mounts permemently a 'F' drive on the Windows computer. The 'F' drive is no longer mapable on the XP. I can't have an 'F' drive because other softwatre on the XP need to map a 'F' drive.

Why is it creating an 'F' drive and how do I get it to stop, like the other 20 installs that went fine.

Some details, - yes the Windows partition is very large, usually 500gb

No, I keep it from connecting to the internet - some one said that might be the reason.

MacBook Pro :: Creating Space On Backup Drive?

Sep 10, 2014

It appears that I have run out of space on my backup drive,

I have an older MacBook Pro running OS10.7.5.  The computer itself is on its last legs and I'd like to create a "latest backup" to insure I have a solid copy of files and programs in case the machine dies before i have a chance to weed out useless programs and files and save music, etc.

How do I create space on the back up drive, and which back ups can I safely remove, while still insuring I have the most recent backup of all programs/files/music/videos and so forth.

Is there any way to use my Windows Laptop to copy the bootable Disk Warrior DVD onto my external HD and make it bootable on my Macbook Pro? (ideally without having to buy software?)

Windows On Mac :: Creating Bootable Backup Of Entire Drive?

Jan 3, 2011

Currently I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (400GB) and OSX 10.6(100GB). I mainly use windows 7 (don't ask why). Anyways I am wondering how I can create a bootable backup of my entire drive (both partitions) form my windows side. Also the software should be able to handle incremental backups, so that the backup don't forever and ruin the backup drive. I have tried a few different pieces of "cloning" software but they don't seem to handle the GPT partition (the efi partition?) very well. I don't know much about partitions. My goal is to create a fast (incremental) bootable backup so if I plug my backup drive in and hold option down four (2 windows and 2 osx) bootable partitions should appear. If that is not possible switching the hard dives is also an option.

Windows On Mac :: Creating A NTFS Bootcamp Drive For Vista?

Jan 23, 2009

I have recently attempted to create a partition to install Microsoft Vista Home Premium 32Bit. The partitioning part is not a problem. I decided to use a 32 GB partition, viola it was created. So I inserted the disk and got everything to work. The installation started up. However, when it came time to selecting which drive to install Vista in I ran into some problems.

I selected the 32 GB partition that was also labeled as BOOTCAMP. However, when I selected it. It wouldn't let me go any farther. It said that it required an NTFS drive. However, when I created the partition I never had the option of selecting which type of drive I wanted. I tried creating a 35 GB partition to see if it would make any difference. But under my Get Info it still is labelling the drive as a FAT32.

How do I make it so it partitions as a NTFS?

Applications :: Creating A Virtual Drive (not Simply Mounting)?

May 28, 2010

I've been scouring Google for a while trying to find a way to do this, but to no avail. I have a playstation emulator on my mac and am attempting to mount an iso of a game to play it. (As a legal sidenote, I do legally own the game and ripped the iso myself from the original disc, so there shouldn't be any issues with that -- I just don't want to have to use the cd and keep it with me, etc.).

I have been able to get a perfect .iso, .dmg, and a folder containing the files. The only thing I can't manage to do is mount it in such a way that the emulator will see it as a disc and not a mounted image. That is, the typical Disk Utility kind of mounting. I have tried it with Roxio Toast versions 7 and 10 (10 is the latest, but I had heard that 7 mounts it in a unique way) to no avail.

There is an old program called Virtual CD-RW ([URL]), but the application won't even open when I downloaded the demo version (double-click/selecting "open" simply didn't have any response at all). However, the kind of language used to describe it seem to be what I am looking for: manipulating kernels in such a way that other applications see it as an actual, physical cd-drive.

Assuming I don't have any more luck with Virtual CD-RW (still trying though), is there any other program/OS way to accomplish this?

OS X Mavericks :: Disk Utility Crashed Whilst Creating Partition And Now Missing Hard Drive Space

Jun 3, 2014

Disk Utility Crashed whilst creating a Partition, and I now have ~100GB missing, which was the amount I had allocated to the new partition.

The new partition didn't get created, and I now have 100GB missing from the Hard drive. I have a 1TB hard drive, and when I go to Disk Utility, it says:  Capacity : 999.35 GB (999,345,127,424 Bytes)Available : 586.1 GB (586,103,844,864 Bytes)Used : 310.52 GB (310,524,317,696 Bytes)

Which adds up to about ~900GB.

I tried Repairing Disk in Disk Utility, booting into Recovery Mode and Repairing Disk there, but neither made a difference.

I have recently bought a MacBook Pro (10.9.4) with a 128 Gb solid state drive. My intended backup strategy is to have all my documents on an external 1 Tb USB3 drive (i.e, not in the MacBook Pro)  and to back up that drive AND my Macbook (system, applications, mail etc) to another, powered 2Tb drive. I’m assuming I’ll have to partition the 2Tb drive first, by the way.

Mac Pro :: When Creating "OS & Apps Only" Drive - What Folders To Move Or Copy

Feb 20, 2010

I have a simple two drive set up on my G5, one for data, one for Applications & the OS. I think I've left too many items on the App & OS drive, and am wondering if you can tell me what else I should move. Or put another way , what standard file or folder names should be included in the OS & App drive, and what can be safely moved to the data only drive. . I've searched around the forums, MROOGLE, but with no luck... Here's an attached screen shot of my finder. the drive named "macintosh HD" is the drive want just for OS & Apps (not sure how to imbed the image right in the posting) It's the original 160GB drive that has only 35GB of space remaining. What can be moved, and will it make my machine and apps boot more quickly?

I am getting an external drive today to store music, photos, etc. Simply enough to set them up and have items go directly to it instead of internal drive? I know it is, just want peace of mind

MY big ?...I have lots of music on itunes on my pc...can I take it off the pc and out onto the external to use with my imac? Still have to do two separate partitions, or? Or, easier to get all my music onto ipod, then use Expod to download to the external? Once it is all on the external, how do I call it up, easily? itunes automatically search to play music from it and save new music to the external or do I have set it up or assign things differently?

OS X :: Creating 3rd Partition On An Already Double Partition Drive?

So here the deal. I have a single hard drive in my MacBook Pro. Its made up into 2 partitions (one for os x and the other for data). I want to make the OS X partition into 2 separate partitions (so I'll have a total of 3) without erasing any data. I want to use that new partition to install windows. When I select the OS X partition, and set it to format at NTFS, it says the size cannot support the filesystem (25GB in this case). What size does it have to be then? Or should I format as FAT32?

I know FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit so I don't want to do that because I want to install some games on the Windows partition. How should I go about doing this?
