I have an MP3 file I'd like as a ringtone. I remember on Vista you just right clicked it and renamed it to M4R. Done.
How do I do this on a Mac? I convert to AAC, open it in Finder, rename it to M4R. Won't open.

Everything works fine, except iPhone Ringtone which does nothing, doesn't make any templates appear in the window or anything.
Strangest thing. I have tried everything to delete a ringtone from my iphone. I have even deleted the source file but the tone still reappears.
I even unselected all the tones from my phone (in iTunes) then synced (so that nothing transfers). But even then that stubborn ringtone still appears!
How do I set the ringtone on my MacPro for when I receive a call via my iPhone?

i have a problem with i tunes, i'm trying to make a ring tone for my iphone from an existing file in my library. to do that i need to press "create an acc version" from the "advanced" tab amongst other procedures but the problem is that the aforementioned option is grey, meaning it can not be pressed, i have a similar problem where a simple thing as copy/paste can't be done on the computer because that to is grey and their fore i just cant press it.

I know this is an ongoing issue that many people are having but does anyone know if a fix is going to be put in place to address this? It seems that whenever I transfer a 320 kb album with artwork from my itunes to my iphone and have itunes converting it down to 256 to conserve space that it gets rid of the arwork. If you had 10 .mkv files (Matroska Multimedia Container files) ranging from 4GB - 7GB in size, and you wanted to convert these files so that they could be viewed in iTunes, on your Apple TV, and/or on your iPhone, how would you do it?
Additional criteria that matters to me:
I don't really care if the movies show up in ultra mega super-duper hi-def in iTunes or on my aTV, just so long as it looks pretty darn good I would really like to avoid having each of these files show up as 4GB m4p files on my iPhone, so that I can avoid having 3 or 4 measly movies taking up all the space on my device...My ideal size range would be anywhere between 500MB (on the very low end of the scale) and 2.5GB (on the very high end of the scale)...somewhere right in the middle would probably be best... I would like to have a single file that was compatible with all of my devices, as opposed to having an aTV version of a movie, and an iPhone version of the same movie

We have followed all the instructions available on-line and changed the song to an AAC file, reduced it to under 30 seconds etc etc. It is described as a ringtone in the Get Info box but we cannot move it to the Tones folder in the library and therefore cannot sync to the iphone.

I downloaded the free Ringtone maker in iTunes. It shows up under Apps in my iTunes page, but there is no option to open it. I've tried double-clicking but nothing happens. When I run the mdls command on a ringtone file to fetch its duration, the output is always null. For e.g running
mdls -raw -name kMDItemDurationSeconds SomeTone.m4r on the terminal returns (null) as the output. When I check the info for the ringtone in iTunes, I see that it's 14s long. Same issue when I try to fetch the total bitrate for the ringtone using mdls. It also returns null. Why does mdls fail ?

I'm using a Macbook pro OSX 10.4 Tiger, and have been experiencing a very bizarre, spooky, specter-like occurrence happening as of late when I watch streaming videos off common site such as Hulu. I'm using the newest version of Firefox and my roommates and I have wireless internet with various routers rigged sort of haphazardly throughout the apartment. Sometimes whenever my cellphone alarm goes off, or an incoming call comes in, the ringtone will come through the speakers of my computer! This takes place even if I'm on a different floor or in another room. It has even happened when my cellphone is put to silent! Can anyone explain or speculate why this is happening? It always freaks me out, and won't go away unless I close the video or browser.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used Macthe Ripper to rip my sons chuggington dvd to my macbook pro, then i used handbrake to convert it, i managed to copy the converted file to my itunes library, but when i symc my iphone 3gs, it says it won't copy the file because it can't be played on my iphone.Several forums mention using the iphone/ipod touch preset when converting in Hnadbrake, now i may be a numpty, but i cant find this preset anywhere?! The closest thing i can see is an apple button/setting.when i selected apple and told it to play again, it said it would overwrite the prev converted verison. I found out something interesting that brings back two years. Remember that old iPhone, the one that came out on June 2007. Well I think his accessories will save us some money for this new iPhone 4. I went inside my garage and found my old iPhone dock that Apple provided with the original iPhone. I said ?hey maybe this dock will fit the new phone.? And it did EXACTLY what I predicted. The new iPhone 4 dock FITS in the old original iPhone dock. I just saved myself $30 for a new dock!
