I ran clean my mac for the first time a couple days ago. ever since then I have been noticing that random apps won't open. I've only found 3 so far but it's a big problem. they are transmission, pixelmator, and activity monitor. now transmission and pixelmator I can redownload but how do I get activity monitor again.
View 24 RepliesI use a program called 'CleanMyMac' and I've got a few questions, when I run the cleaning feature, under the 'User Cache Files'
If you notice, there's a red box on the left of that entry, is it ok to clear those two entries? because every time i click on the red boxes it says:
'Removing gray-listed items may result in unexpected behaviour of some applications'
I want to know what to do with these entries as they seem pretty important.
So who has this and what are your guys thoughts on it? I am curious, I was thinking about getting it. Is it worth it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use CleanMyMac to clean up once in a while. its great when deleting apps and such, you just send it to the trash and it finds all the extra stuff, deletes it, and quits on its own. Same when it comes to external drives, it deletes unneeded files from those as well. Once in a while I go into it to clean log files and such, I do not understand what the Universal Binary part is. I run a MBP 5,3 model, with snow leopard. Do I need to keep those files? It says its something that has to do with powerbook.

I know that OS is pretty much impervious to most viruses, but I have been hit by viruses before, and those few instances have turned me into a very cautious person.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI wanted to delete from my desktop some useless for me files like some ipsw files downloaded earlier, pwnage tool, but when I wanted to trash those ones, CleanMyMac asked if I'd like to uninstall pwnagetool, I marked yes, because I thought that there may be some register files, than trashed the rest of files (cleared trash) and after rebooting my Mac seems to be formated, I mean whole settings, iLifes libraries disappeared, settings were zeroed but apps and data in Documents and Downloaded were the same. (I am almost sure that the problem was in deleting files with CleanMyMac), anyway at first I thought that was a glitch, recovered time machine backup and did the same, than restarted Mac - the same, now I am 100% sure about that, but I have to waiting another 6h with my very fast WD MyBook - because that time is required to wait with it if you want to recover 120GB, I wish I had TimeCapsule.

I've been doing it with pen and paper for a while but there must be something out there - maybe even a widget? I guess I'd like it to have some degree of security (a password for the password manager - how do I remember that one) so maybe a widget doesn't work. A small app then - preferably freeware.

There seems to be a solution, but I have no idea how to remove this (I do have an external WD HDD). I just don't find anything related to Western Digital.
I let a friend use my computer and was wondering if there is anyway to determine what files she may have uploaded using her own AOL account on my machine. Is there any upload file record or upload manager that can detect all uploads? Is there some sort of MAC OS Up-Load Manager that can show all uploads regardless of what account was used to perform the upload? This might be a Safari question I suppose?

I had permission troubles, but iSync was working perfectly. I repaired all permissions with Leopard, then upgraded to Snow Leopard, now when I try to open iSync, I get this message:
iSync can't be launched.
The sync manager is not available.
Can you guys recommend a decent, free password manager? I was a big KeePass fan when I used Windows, however KeePassX doesn't have auto type on OSX. I tried 1Password, but I didn't like it very much and I definitely would not pay $39.99 for it.

I scouted the net and ended up finding out I should check my Activity Monitor, which I did. There is a "WD Button Manager" that will flash up for a second and then disappear . It says that it is using 96% of my CPU.
(Does this explain why my mac is slow? Even as I type this there is a delay for a second and then the words appear!)
I think its for a Western Digital external HD I had a while back but I never use now.
So i tried to find the program and did, I tried to drop it in the trash and delete it but it gives me the message, cant trash because it is open.
But I cant open it when I click on the icon, it opens omnioutliner? (no idea what this program does!)
I am trying to find a way to have my computer automatically boot into the Startup Manager by default. Right know I know you can set it to boot into Verbose, Debug, Single User and Safe mode with the nvram. But is there an option to set it to the Startup Manager.

My issue is that it is taxing my CPU % it runs anywhere between 90% to 200% even higher some times and is using up 2.93 GB of my Vertual Memory.I can turn it off but it's not a very long term solution to have to remember that all the time.Â
