View 5 RepliesIs there a way to determine what my home IP address is when I'm not at home? Here is the reason for the question: I'm using my iPad as a mobile platform when I don't need all the horsepower of my MBP. However, to allow myself access to my files, I have my home router set up to route the appropriate ports to allow me to VNC into my MBP from my iPad. It works like a charm... until my ISP changes my home IP address. That is precisely what happened, and because I needed to get access to certain files, I had to call a neighbor and ask to have them check [URL] from my network.

MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.5 date and time set automatically to use a network time server (domain controller). After a few weeks of the end-user utilitizing it on their home network, the time reverts back to January 6, 2012. How can I set a secondary location if the first location is unreachable?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my iTunes media folder to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive. The new one is located on a hard drive attached to my Airport Express. Since then, I keep getting messages stating that certain items weren't copied to my iPhone because the originals couldn't be found. When I check, the iTunes media folder has reverted to the location on my iMac's main hard drive.
How can I prevent this? At best this is annoying, but it also is using up hard drive space unnecessarily. Is this behavior avoidable, or is it something that goes with the territory when you move your media folder to an external hard drive?

I recently purchased two 2GB memory modules from OWC to upgrade my MacBook 2.4 Core 2 Duo. The memory arrived and I verified the packing slip matched what I had ordered. The install went smoothly. Upon turning on my Mac, instead of booting up I got a gray screen and 3 repeatable beeps. These sounded like "warning alerts", so I immediately shut down and tried to power up again - with the same result. I reopened my Mac and confirmed everything was done correctly by popping out the sticks and re-inserting to make sure the modules we're properly seated. Turned on the machine and got the same thing. Nervously, I re-installed the factory modules and (thankfully) my Mac booted up just fine. So does this mean that the memory I received is DOA? Is there anything else those 3 warning beeps might have been indicating? I'm 99 percent sure the memory I received is matched for my machine, so all I can assume is that it's faulty? Can anyone verify my assumption before I contact OWC to help me rectify the situation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a store bought copy of iWork '08 and I have since bought office for mac. I no longer use iWork and i want to sell it on eBay, but when i was looking over the documents that came with it I noticed it had a product key included. Now I didn't think I ever put a product key in when I initially installed it so I tried installing it on my newer macbook (not the same macbook as it was originally installed on) and it never prompted me for a product key. I want to sell this copy and i'm pretty sure the key has never been used, but how do I find out if it has? Is it fine to sell to someone? If it doesn't prompt me for a key, does it mean it wont prompt them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedEquipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content.
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details.

Yesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

This relates to: [URL]. We are trying to determine the compatibility of the air keyboard to the macbook unibody. Can someone with an air tell what these basic measurements are:
* from side to side
* from top to bottom
* the exact size of the Esc, F1-F12 and eject keys (one would be enough)
If you would like to go further you can measure others as well, but if those 3 match than the rest probably do as well considering that it has already been confirmed that the keys from an old non-unibody macbook can be swapped to the air or mb unibody.
I like when Mac products "just work" -- except when they don't. In this case, I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and a mid-2007 iMac. I also have a 500 GB Time Capsule updated to the latest firmware. Not that it should matter, but I also have MobileMe. I've turned on the "wake on network" feature on the iMac. If I tell the iMac to stay awake, I can reach it fine (same as in Leopard). If it goes to sleep, it's unreachable. The way it's supposed to work, from what I'm reading, is that it's supposed to be accessible by advertising to the Time Capsule that there are services available (e.g. file sharing, screen sharing, etc). how can I be sure it's properly advertising this info to the Time Capsule?

I've been using OSX since it first came out but one thing I still don't understand is how you determine where a new finder window will appear.
I recall someone once saying open a window, press CTRL then close the window and the next window will appear in the same spot as the now closed window. That doesnt work, nor does pressing command or any other combination I have tried.

I am trying to find out how many files I have on my Internal HD so as I can match them to the copied files on my external HD before I re-format to make sure they have all copied.
My external is MS-DOT (FAT32) and the internal OS Extended Journaled giving me a difference of roughly 7GB, I can only bring up the capacity, available and used information.
I'm always creating playlists (and then constantly changing, revising and updating) on iTunes for a few different bands I play in. I also keep folders on my idisk of those same sets of songs. If I update/change/delete a list or folder in one place (which happens constantly) I have to do it in the other.
Anybody know of a way to have your iTunes playlists determine folders on your idisk, or the other way around, or any solution to this? Some cool OSX function? Or a third party software solution perhaps?
I have an old G4 tower and no monitor for it. I wanted to go through old files and I used to just login remotely (screen sharing, SSH or AFP) and do what I need. I don't know why, but now no services seem to be running. I know for certain that the computer is connected to the LAN network. Basically, I'm trying to find out what services may be running. I'm not trying to get past any security, just access my files. If it's stuck at the login window, will no sharing services start? I guess not, since no user is logged in.

I'd like a Terminal or AppleScript command to determine if a logged in user is using a virtual display.
The scenario is: user1 is in front of the local computer using user1 account (owns /dev/console); user2 is using using a virtual display for the local computer via ScreenSharing on a remote computer.
I know `stat -f%Su /dev/console` will give me who is in front of the local computer, but I need another command to determine if user2 is using a virtual display on the same local computer.
