Mac Pro :: Quadro FX 4500 X2 Is Not Working?
Jun 24, 2009I just got a PNY Quadro FX 4500 x2. I know some people has talked about Quadro FX 4500 before but after I got this card, I know it is different from single Quadro FX 4500 because it is two FX 4500 strap together, please refer to the product link here (URL)
I am currently using PC running Mac OSX 10.5.6 (iDeneb) and I think I probably need to flash this card before put into my computer. When I tried to use nvflash (the latest version) to flash the rom, I can back up two roms and it ask me two times when I used "nvflash -b" to back up each rom (rom 0 and 1). However, I can not put the fix rom back to my card. When I use "nvflash -4 -5 -6 -j" command. I know this must has something to do since my card has two roms.........but it is really beyond my knowledge and I don't know how to do it, when I tried to put the fix rom back to my card, it showed the error message below:

I think besides the flash rom problem, I also believe that I probably need someone help me to fix my original rom because the fixed rom I downloaded is not for FX 4500 x2, I couldn't find any fixed rom for FX 4500 x2, only FX 4500. Here I attach the original rom I back up from my card and hope some people can help me to look at it. Somehow I also think I might need to change my GFX string or something like that.
Again, this is just the problems I have found from now. After two weeks trying to search everything in the web I am very frustrating because it is hard to find people who use the same card like me. I am just a visual effects animator and I think some parts of flashing this card has gone beyond my knowledge. I know many people and genius here will know what's going on immediately and be able to help me out.

RAM: 6G ECC RAM

Mar 18, 2008I have a friend who's dell died that has a Quadro FX 4500 in it and he is willing to offer it to me for free. I figure it is better then my 7300 I have now and might hold me over until Apple releases the 8800 for last gen Mac Pros.
The only snag in this is I have to find the Mac Pro firmware so I can put it on this card and hopefully use it.

Feb 21, 2008why my FX 4500 will not work in my new mac pro (2008)? If the new mac pro is pcie v2.0 it should run the fx4500 pcie v1.x just fine right? The 4500 card did come out of my old mac pro (not a G5/non intel base mac) this would be lame as hell if I can't use it on my new mac, as the ATI 2600 is trash with an app Osirix.

Nov 10, 2007Finally took the plunge and switched from PC to the 24" IMac and couldn't be happier except. I bought the Samsung SCX-4500 laser printer/scanner (you know the pretty shiny black one) and when i click the scan to pc button, it doesn't scan anything. I know its not the printer because I had it hooked up to my PC and it scanned no problem. So it must be something with the IMac. I have installed the drivers for scanning too.

Nov 15, 2007I just bought a 24" Alu Mac, a Samsung SCX 4500 scanner/printer, and and Airport Extreme Basesation. (This is my first Mac ever.) Currently the printer is connected directly to my iMac via a USB cable. I had no trouble getting the print functionality to work, and only minor trouble getting the scanning to work. Now I want to break the working set up I have. Smart, huh?
I would like to plug the Samsung SCX 4500 into my Airport Extreme base station. My understanding is that once I do that, the print function will still work, but the scanning functions will not. Below are excerpts from a chat I had online with an "Apple Expert" before I bought the SCX 4500. The expert with which I was speaking explained there is no supported way to enable the scan function through the Airport Extreme but there was an unsupported way.
Unfortunately he could not tell me the unsupported way, but suggested that I search on "CUPS, Scan, Airport Extreme". See below if you are interested in the exact conversation.
I have done some searching but have yet to find anything that I could really understand, keep in mind I am new to Mac. Has anyone successfully hooked their Samsung SCX 4500 (or some other all-in-one) to the USB port in their AirPort Extreme and got both the scanning and printing to work?

Mar 3, 2008It was slightly faster than than the GeForce 8800 GT running our six 3D accelerated games.
In another session, we performed a RAM Preview render on 15 Motion 3 templates. The Quadro FX 5600 (and GeForce 8800 GT) were slower than the Radeon HD 2600 XT in 14 out of 15 tests. The Radeon X1900 XT beat the nVidia cards rendering all 15 templates.
Tomorrow we will post results on our Windows Vista 64 tests (Prey, Doom 3, 3DMark06, etc.). As a preview, the Quadro was faster than the Radeon HD 2600 XT but slower than the GeForce 8800 GT running Prey and Doom 3. In the 3DMark06 benchmark the Quadro was faster than the GeForce 8800 GT.

When I turn MacPro on, immediately the sound "Beepp" is so loud and continute, it scared me then I turn it off. So what happened? Does the card have problem? Or my Mac? - The Quadro 4000 is supported on the Mac Pro '08, the Radeon 5870 is not.
- X-Plane 9: the Radeon 5870 is not faster than the 4870 in the '08 Mac Pro. Maybe the Quadro 4000 will be faster?
- 2 GB VRAM on the Quadro... any chance gaming will benefit?
- Usually the "Pro-3D" card loses to good consumer 3D cards in gaming. Will this be true this time too?

Apr 4, 2012I've pulled every card out of my system and tested one by one and whenever I have the Quadro4800 card in the MacPro I get a 4VDC/Video controller error in the apple hardware test. I'm using the card as a GPU only in a Davinci Resolve environment. Is this normal?

OS X :: PC CD RW Won't Mount On Mac Pro
Feb 6, 2009Have a number of PC-created CD RW disks (UDF format) backups. Some will mount on the Mac Pro (Superdrive, Apple shipped, Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D). Those that don't mount can't be ejected except during a Restart. Disk Utility can't do anything with it--all useful options are grayed out. The drive appears in Disk Utility, as does the disk, but it's grayed out too.

Jul 12, 2008Currently running 10.5.1, skype crashes all the time as soon as I try to call or IM. Same for YHOO msgr. So I thought I go for an upgrade and downloaded the last update to 10.5.4 (560MB). As soon as I try to install the file the updater gets stuck in the first window (configuring installation). I left it alone because I thought it might needs some more time (Powerbook G4.1.5, 12"). Nope, after 3 hours still no moving along for the bar and I just end up shutting the machine down via the power button. I really would love to use skype and the other msgrs again, get the upgrade to work. Download the patch again? I don't even know where the already downloaded patch sits, if I can't install it I will certainly like to delete the 560MB.

Nov 17, 2010I tried searching for a solution for this and can't find any. I've seen one other threat in here about similar problems but the variables in my case are different. Here's the thing, a friend of mine lent me her usb pen-drive. She uses it on a pc mostly at work. When she gave it to me she forgot to copy some files i needed so she plugged it into her macbook pro (one of the new ones from this year, intel, snow leopard and stuff), copied the files i needed on it and i took it home. I have an intel imac, bought on april 2009. I plugged the usb pen-drive on my keyboard usb port and nothing happened. So i took it out, plugged it in again and nada. I did it a 3rd time and this time it showed me a message saying that this pen-drive needed more power and i had to try plugging it into a different usb port. So i plugged it in the back of my imac and nothing happened, not even the "insufficient power" message. It doesn't mount, won't show up in the desktop nor in the sidebar of a finder window.
I checked the disk utility and the pen-drive shows up there. I see the "main" pen-drive and it's "partition" (i dunno how to call it... mmm... you know, like you're seeing the "parent" drive and its "son" drive but they're "one and the same") and i can see its tech info and i noticed it's formatted NTFS. Since it worked just fine on my friend's macbook pro, i can't figure out why isn't it working in my imac. I know macs can't write NTFS, only read (mine doesn't at least) but hers wrote info in the pen-drive no prob. Another thing i noticed is that the "son" drive is grayed out. I can see its tech info but it's grayed out. Verifying the drive simply shows a message saying "Verify volume failed: Invalid request.".
So, i have no clue as to what's going on. I could give it back and ask my friend to format it as journal or whatever it's called to be mac os compatible and copy the info back again, but i don't know if that'd be a solution until i'm able to try it in a few days. Can't ask her to format it fat32 since the file i need is larger than 4gb, so yeah. Any clues as to what could be the problem? I even tried unplugging any usb peripherals and no dice.
OS X :: Mount ISO As CD In Drive
May 23, 2007I understand macs can mount .iso with a simple double click, but I want my macbook to treat an iso file as if it were a CD in the cd drive. This is easily done on a C with PowerISO or Alcohol120% I should be able to do it on a mac too, shouldn't I? But I can't seem to figure out how to. When I double click the iso to just mount it, it mounts fine, i can access files and everything, but if I run a program that reads of the CD i of course get the "Please insert CD". Now, I have the CD right here, that's no big problem, but the using drive kills the battery life like nothing else.

Nov 13, 2008I recently Installed Windowns on my MBP via boot camp and I also installed a MacDrive 5 day trial version so I could move some files from the external (1Tb WD My book pro) to the windows side. Everything went smoothly and then after my file transfers on the windows side, then in a hurry I just unplugged the firewire cable and shut the mac down. Now when I start up in OS X the drive doesn't mount. I starts up ok and then the only thing I see is a task called "fsck_hfs" eating up my CPU and memory. The drive works fine in windows with Macdrive so it's not a HD failure because all of my files are still there and usable, It's jut that Leopard can't see the darn thing. So how could I get Leopard to see the HD again without re-formating and losing all my files on it?

Mar 10, 2009I have an interesting problem in that my USB drives aren't mounting to the desktop. I've tried two separate flash drives and an external hard drive. When I check Disk Utility, I can highlight the drives and click 'mount' and the 'mount' button will darken for a few moments as though things are working but then the button just returns to its normal state and the drive still does not appear on the desktop. Despite this, Disk Utility's log shows the message 'Mount of "xxxx" succeeded' every time. Disk Utility sees the drives (obviously) and will verify them. Only mounting appears not to work. Meanwhile, I can plug my Wacom tablet into the very same USB port and it (the tablet) works perfectly. My iPods and iPhone will sync just fine from the same port. Why is this happening and, more to the point, what should I try in order to fix it? I know it's not a simple matter of restarting because I've done that a number of times already without success no matter what Disk Utility says.

Jan 7, 2010So, i'll try to be as detailed as possible. I have been using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB portable hard drive (reformatted to HFS+) with my 13" Macbook Pro for a while now. I use my computer to rip my DVDs and put them on the hard drive to play on my Xbox 360. Things were working great until it stopped mounting on my Macbook (or any other computer running OS X). The strange part is that it is still recognized in disk utility, but when i try to "mount" it it says something to the effect of "an error has occurred, try repairing the disk". However, when i attempt to repair the disk it says that it is fine. Also, i have tried to use an external power source so power is not the issue.
