Mac Pro :: Nvidia Quadro Fx 4500 Firmware?
Mar 18, 2008I have a friend who's dell died that has a Quadro FX 4500 in it and he is willing to offer it to me for free. I figure it is better then my 7300 I have now and might hold me over until Apple releases the 8800 for last gen Mac Pros.
The only snag in this is I have to find the Mac Pro firmware so I can put it on this card and hopefully use it.

Apr 4, 2012I've pulled every card out of my system and tested one by one and whenever I have the Quadro4800 card in the MacPro I get a 4VDC/Video controller error in the apple hardware test. I'm using the card as a GPU only in a Davinci Resolve environment. Is this normal?

Jun 24, 2009I just got a PNY Quadro FX 4500 x2. I know some people has talked about Quadro FX 4500 before but after I got this card, I know it is different from single Quadro FX 4500 because it is two FX 4500 strap together, please refer to the product link here (URL)
I am currently using PC running Mac OSX 10.5.6 (iDeneb) and I think I probably need to flash this card before put into my computer. When I tried to use nvflash (the latest version) to flash the rom, I can back up two roms and it ask me two times when I used "nvflash -b" to back up each rom (rom 0 and 1). However, I can not put the fix rom back to my card. When I use "nvflash -4 -5 -6 -j" command. I know this must has something to do since my card has two roms.........but it is really beyond my knowledge and I don't know how to do it, when I tried to put the fix rom back to my card, it showed the error message below:

I think besides the flash rom problem, I also believe that I probably need someone help me to fix my original rom because the fixed rom I downloaded is not for FX 4500 x2, I couldn't find any fixed rom for FX 4500 x2, only FX 4500. Here I attach the original rom I back up from my card and hope some people can help me to look at it. Somehow I also think I might need to change my GFX string or something like that.
Again, this is just the problems I have found from now. After two weeks trying to search everything in the web I am very frustrating because it is hard to find people who use the same card like me. I am just a visual effects animator and I think some parts of flashing this card has gone beyond my knowledge. I know many people and genius here will know what's going on immediately and be able to help me out.

Apr 20, 2008I bought a NVIDIA 8800GTS, since I saw it was possible to flash the card (thread in these forums). So I got the same card and was all excited! Unfortuantely I do not own a PC but I hoped I could flash the card within my MacPro (early 2008). Too bad that the flash utility nvflash.exe has to be run in a DOS environment. After fighting for a while I want to post my findings and maybe somebody know the solution.
Standard Dos BootCD will work on the mac but the USB keyboard won't be recognized :/ After trying the Hiren's Boot cd - I could use the keyboard, but there was no way the Loader could mount a RAM disk - I guess the MacPro handles ram differently than the standard PC. All I wanted to do is to access the NTFS filesystem so I could save my original NVidia ROM. No success I tried the HP USB Flash utility which creates a bootable USB flash drive with DOS on it but the MacPro doesn't recognise the drive as a bootable disk :/ Tried the same with an iPod but no success neither. So all I want is to boot into Dos with my MacPro - have a "writeable" drive so I can save my rom with the nvflash.exe and flash the card with the new and EFI64 rom version (which can be also found within another thread). Any1 an idea ? I think I am at the end of my knowledge... A .dmg that can be used to restore a Bootable DOS FAT32 partition that can be modified via OS X would be the bomb.

May 5, 2009I was able to try the new NVidia 3D-Shutter-Glasses on a PC, and I liked it.
It is something I dreamed off in my C64-days long time ago ;-)
I think about getting a MacPro and installing a flashed NVidia-Card with the connector for the shutter-remote. I hope to have the card running under OSX as a normal card and, when booting into Vista ( for games only), I then can enjoy the 3D-effect.
Now: is there a new generation Nvidia-card with the 3D-connector that will be flashable for OSX? That would be great news for me. I know the new Quattro-card has this connector also for OSX (?), but this thing is way off limits in terms of pricing.

Apr 13, 2012My 24" iMac has been exibiting strange behavior lately... It appears to be if a graphical nature where the screen will randomly flicker or go blank in a variety of colors (black or white or yellow or red or blue). Sometimes a preceeding indicator that this is going to occur is that the system becomes on responsive or extremely delayed, text and other graphics appear garbled/corrupted/scrambled.Â
I've used Mac Hardware Test, Disk Utility, TechTool Pro 6, anti virus software - even took it to a local authorized Mac repair shop (not Apple Store) and the results are the same - Everything LOOKS fine with no problems reported. I've reinstalled the OS and even gone as far as completely wiping the drive and starting from scratch, just incase it is/was some kind of odd software conflict. Yet, the problem persists and the Console always captures something like this just before another epic fail:Â

Desktops :: Need A Video Card/Replace A Video Card?
Sep 4, 2009Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

I recently bought Unity but it turns out the Nvidea GeForce 8600M GT graphics card isn't fully supported because of a memory leak which is a problem with the drivers.
Unity Support have told me to update my drivers. I understood Mac drivers were always built in to the OS and no drivers were available from Nvidea but I see they now have one Mac driver for another card.
What is the actual state of affairs with this graphics card does anyone know? There have been a lot of reports of faulty ones and now this.
This is a just about year old top of the range MacBook Pro and it doesn't support graphics??
IMac :: Nvidia / ATI Radeon For Video Editing?
Nov 26, 2009My cousin is considering getting a new iMac, and he's not sure if he should go with the $1199 model that comes with an Nvidia GeForce 9400M or the $1499 model that has an ATI Radeon HD 4670. He's going to be doing a lot of video editing with Final Cut and Motion, and not so much 3D gaming. But perhaps some 3D modeling and animation. Is it worth the extra $300 for the ATI graphics card, or will he find that the Nvidia card is good enough for what he wants?

I spoke with multiple Geniuses. I spoke with AppleCare. Everyone is telling me that this is the card for my Mac Pro model. They looked up the model number and confirmed it. The original ATI card works in the machine.
I received the card, installed it, booted the machine, and had no video. Just two blank 20" displays. I tried using one display, reset power management, did a few other things while on the phone with a Genius. Nothing.
AppleCare sent me a new card (same model). Same issues. I'm looking at two blank displays right now. I'm as frustrated as I could possibly be. Are all the people I spoke to at Apple completely wrong and could this be the wrong card? Multiple people looked up the model number and they all point me to this card. It doesn't work, and since my ATI card works, I doubt it's the machine.
