I was just wondering why there are so many ".caf" files in the "all documents" section of my new MBP and if I should just ignore them if they are part of something else like GarageBand.
Is it possible to move an item from the "More" section of the Contextual Menu up to the main section? In the attached screen shot you can see an item "Snag Path Unix" at the very bottom. I use this function about 100 times a day and it is very inconvenient that I have to go through a submenu for that.
I found xml files in my documents. Did these come with my Mac? What are they? In their info it says they were created Dec. 31, 1979, which is way before I got my Mac.
I'm not tech savy at all, so I need any advice people might have about this. A couple of hours ago all the files in my Documents folder disappeared. The folder is there, but only two documents are in it (the two I was working on today).
I can't find any of my files by searching in the finder window. I have no idea where to start on this. I haven't backed up any of my files because clearly I was operating under the misconception that losing all of my documents all at once could never happen to me.
Every time I sign into MSN or start a conversation with someone, MSN creates a file in my doc's. Is there any real reason for this and is there a way to stop it? I find it incredibly annoying as it changes the order of my folders so I forever clicking the wrong one. I have tried hiding it, but it just created another folder.
I burn a cd every month of my documents and photos. My Mac has no problem reading the files from the disc, but my PC seems to only "read" the photos. When I try to read the text files (.doc, .rtf, etc.) I get an "access denied" msg.My Mac is Tiger 10.4.11, WORD is 2004, both fully up to date; everything pretty vanilla. My PC is a senior citizen with W98, and WORD 2000 and is not connected to the Internet.
I can't download files through google documents, anyone else having this problem? The file is sent/shared with me through Google docs.
The response I get when I try to download is:
Sorry, we are unable to scan this file for viruses. This file exceeds the maximum size that we can scan. Download anyway. So eventhough I click download anyway it still will not download.
I'm a new MAC user. Why can't I save files to sub-folders under Documents? Also why do I have to provide my password every time I update or move a file?
All the documents, files and icons displayed on my desktop keep disappearing and then reappearing whenever I do anything - though especially when I save or update something, create a new folder or rename a document/file. Sometimes they don't reappear at all and I am forced to restart the system.
I use a Mac Mini Power PC G4 (1.2) with OS X 10.4.11 and I have an external hard drive which I use to save most of my files and documents onto.
id like to upgrade but am not sure if my MBP 17" 2.16 is capable. also, if it is, will i have to save all my documents/files/itunes/etc to an external hardrive before the upgrade? if so, is there an easy way to do this? that would take a lot of time and im pretty sure i probably wont even get all of it!
I decided to post because I've been paranoid lately by possibilities that I may be hacked by someone or may have a virus on my Mac. I purchased my Mac in June of this year. I was messing around on "Finder" today and was looking at documents and stuff when I noticed some documents in the finder that were not familiar to me. I kept looking and I actually found A LOT of documents with numbers and things that were not familiar to me. Once I saw this, I went to the activity monitor.
I saw my username of course along with process names that looked familiar to me. I kept scrolling down and then I saw the username "daemon" and the process name was "distnoted". What is this? Am I just paranoid about this or is something going on? My computer speeds are fine and the computer itself is acting completely normal. I DO use uTorrent and Frostwire, though I don't download just anything.
I am recieving an error message when I try to copy new files (images, documents) to mac from flash drive/SD card. The message is saying "operation cannot be completed because an item already exists with that name." They are brand new therefore not the same name? I cannot even put them in a brand new folder..
it seems that I have lost all my documents in my documents folder on my MacBook Pro. They were there a couple of days ago, I did not delete them and no one uses the mac other than me. How can I get my documents back??? I am running Lion OS (i think)
I've used Handbrake to rip a dvd to my Macbook and put it in itunes. This only ripped the main video, which is what I was expecting, but is it possible to rip the bonus sections as well (either as seperate videos or all in one video with the main one)? I'm going to give Mac the Ripper a go for backing up my dvds because as far as I can tell this will give me a file that will be just like the dvd with the menus and the bonus sections. Is that right? If handbrake can't do what I'm asking, can I add the file Mac the Ripper creates to iTunes or would I need to use Mac the Ripper to create a back up of a dvd and Handbrake to make a copy to use in iTunes?
Tried searching for this but unfortunately could not find anything. How do I get rid of this purple shaded area of my disk and restore my disk to full size? It's supposed to be 320 GBs. I attempted to delete a Bootcamp partition but it didn't seem to delete correctly. I understand that I will not have 320 GBs free, but shouldn't I have more than 297 GBs on a brand new UMBP?
my printer stopped working (os 10.4.11) some people told me to delete the printer and then re-add it in the prefs section. well, deleting it was simple enough but now i can't re-add it. i hit the add button and it does nothing. why is this happening, and how can i fix it?
I'd been planning on getting a 2TB Time Capsule to replace my old 1TB one, but kept putting it off. I was at Best Buy today and happened to walk over by the Mac section, and saw a sign saying that the 2TB Time Capsule was only $249.99. Needless to say, I bit the bullet. When I got up to the register, one of the girls rang me up, and the guy next to her was sort of in awe at how much the discount was, so it seems like this was pretty brand new. I asked them if this was happening in all Best Buy stores, and they said that they believed that this was the case. Oddly, only the 2TB ones were discounted, and not the 1TB. So this made the 2TB about $85 cheaper than the 1TB, since at Best Buy, the 1TB sells for $334.00
This evening the middle section of my screen is being funny! It goes like this when I move the hinge and pushing the case can fix it temporarily! What has happened? Can I fix it?
For some reason, collections/videos that appear in the iTunes U section cannot be sorted by name. Even if you add a sortname to the videos, they can't seem to be sorted. What gives? I've had a few things that came in out of order (it looks like some files were re-released and with about 50 items, it makes it a chore to hunt down the correct file to view.
I bought a macbook pro the last september it was sell with osx lion. The first time i went to appstore i saw osx lion under the purchased with installed button But now is disappeared. When i go to osx lion page the button shows the price. How can i fix this problem?
My daughter has a dance project in school. She wants a song to start at the beginning, stop at 1:05, start again at 2:07 and go to the end. I tried creating a seperate file so I could do starts and stops on both to do this, but the playlist sees it as a duplicate.
I was on the purchases section of the App Store and accidentally hit the little x and the app got deleted from this section. How do i get it back to download again.
I downloaded and installed the updates for the OS and now there is no "shared" section in the finder at all. Shared items are checked in the preferences. Selecting "go" and "network" doesn't do anything. I checked in the system preferences and the name of the workgroup is correct. The other computers in the workgroup can see my shared folders, but I can no longer see anything shared.
