Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.

I have seen a commercial of an iMAC sending email and a swishing sound occurred when the email was sent. I wonder how one turns on the sound that indicates the email has been transmitted? And, are there choices of different sounds for this purpose?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't get any audio whether I'm in Itunes, online, or my own videos. No matter what application I'm in I can not hear anything. I've checked my settings and my volume is on and it is NOT muted.
It was functioning properly til the last couple days.
I know some people won't be able to resist calling this thread stupid, because it is. That being said, my HD in my new i7 is fairly loud, but it doesn't bother me in the least bit. In a strange kind of way, I actually like the sound of the HD, it reminds me a little of the sound of rain. Im I the only one?
(The dog whistle noise on the iMac I returned on the other hand drove me insane, I would have stabbed my pen through its yellow little face if that wouldn't have prevented apple from accepting it back)
I'm having an issue where the sound is playing from the internal speakers and rather not the built in speakers. (The speakers that play the OS X DURRRR and Ear Breaking Memory Beeps) I've tried upgrading the Realtek Audio Drivers from the site and Snow Leopard CD to no success. Does anyone know how to fix this. It's not like this in Vista, but I can't play my games in Vista because I dun have enuff RAM.

Random question, but does anyone know how to get a usb microphone to play through speakers? - i.e. I want to use it in a karaoke kind-of-way!!

View 3 Replies View Relateddoes anyone who has the 24in iMac have any problem with the sound from the speakers? Sometimes when I listen to music on iTunes I will then get a screeching sound for a few seconds then it will go off.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have looked through the threads here ENDLESSLY!!!! And I, unfortunately, still seem to be at a loss on what to do.
As of right now, I have a headphone output going to the Red and White RCA analog to my surround sound input just like the ones here
The headphone male end is going into the very far left headphone jack of my iMac. I have a 5.1 surround sound system and I know that this isn't being used to it's full potential.
I am not fully sure on what to do with the Audio in / optical audio in port... If I connect a fiber optic cable to that into my digital input on my surround sound, is that all I need? (this?) No RCA plugins or anything....?
Also, I have read endlessly on the FireWave and I am not really sure what the point of that is...? I don't know how it comes into play with hooking up my surround sound system to my iMac.
I have the Sony HT-DDW670
My Blueberry G3's sound is entirely too loud, even on the lowest volume setting. Any way to get it quieter? I have to turn the sound down on each program, which is annoying, and any OS sounds are freaking overkill.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wasn't sure whether to post this on the Windows on Mac forum or this but!I purchased the new 2.93 GHz 24-inch iMac yesterday at the Apple Store and the everything works perfectly in the Mac OS. In Boot Camp, however, the sound quality gets really bad.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy G4 iMac has been making a weird fan sound (a flickering sound, as if there were a piece of paper in it or something). Last night I turned it off and the weird fan continued running. I tried to unplug my mac and plug it back in, but the fan just starts right back up. The computer won't start, I've tried holding the start button but nothing happens. I need my computer today to work.

ok the issue is that I'm constantly hearing the ticking or clicking sound from my mac mini. Could any tell me what could be making those sound?
Occasionally I will turn on my IMac and I wont have any sound. When I try to turn up or down the sound, there is a restriction symbol in the sound box that pops up and nothing will happen. The old restart usually works. However, when I try to plug in headphones or an external audio cable, nothing changes. I still get sound out of the computer, and it works like there is nothing in the jack. All software is up to date, I reset PRAM and did the "unplug everything" drill. Still no change. When I did the unplug everything, its almost notorious for having the first problem of "no sound".
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently posted a thread but was thinking could anyone really really simply tell me in numbered steps how to get surround sound for my iMac, and what i'd need to buy. I have a home cinema system with all the speakers which go through RCA connectors (phono) into the system.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAlright, this is really annoying. I've been trying to record myself playing music on imovie to show people, but my line in won't pick up any sound! I've tried system prefrences>sound>line in and turning it all the way up and I've tried Utilities>Audio MIDI>Line In and turning that all the way up. I've tried everything I could think of and NOTHING is happening!

The video and sound are not in sync on my G5 10.4.11. What can I do?

After re-arranging my set-up, I suddenly have no sound from my external speakers (JBL Creature II). After the first panic, I figured I would try with my MBP. Odly, they work just fine with that. Then i tried with my headphones from my iPhone - no sound at alle. I?ve resetted PR-RAM (twice), and is now stocked - and pissed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedGot an '07 iMac, and just reinstalled Win7 on it, while playing around with the partition sizes. Before, everything worked fine. Now, I have no sound (though, if I strain my imagination, I think I can hear something). According to Windows, everything's working fine; says the driver is functioning just as it should. I've reset the computer, no dice. I've checked things in OS X, and its just fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy mac has been locking up in BC2, the problem seems to be specific to that game, but also specific to this computer. I have a feeling it is a sound card issue. Heres how it goes. [URL:....] I'm on an i5 / 5850m / Win7 Ultimate.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that there's a headphone output jack and an audio input jack on the iMac. Is there anyway to hook up my 5.1 Logitech speakers to the iMac? What kind of adapter would I need or is it even possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a creative 5.1 speaker setup and just recently found my old sound blaster external card from my PC from years ago. I went on the creative website to try and download drivers for it and their weren't any (surprise, surprise). So I've been trying to figure out how to use my speaker setup so I can watch movies from iTunes in 5.1 surround sound. When I plug in the card through USB the sound tab in the system preferences reads it as the SB Live! card (which it is).
Then when I go to the Audio MIDI Setup, it also reads the card and the speakers I have connected to it. When I go the configure speakers tab, it shows them and all when I click on them to test them, it shoots out noise through each speaker. But when I go back to iTunes and enable surround sound in a movie, nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there any software I can download so I can use my speakers?
I've had the Belkin AV360 for less than a week now and I am no longer getting any sound from any HDMI devices plugged in. Video displays just fine but no sound. I did change my sound input on the iMac earlier today but I've tried switching it to other settings and still no go.
