OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Mute Startup Sound On IMac
Apr 23, 2012I was using it for a long time StartupSoundPrefPane11b3 with no problems, but this week I had to erase my hd and restore the disk from time machine. Since then I can't use anymore your program, I checked the boxes "Turn on startup volume control" and "Mute" and turn on the lock. After turn off and on again I get the startup sound. I went to system preferences, and "Startup Sound" program but the "Mute" checkbox is not active anymore. I'm running on a Mid 2007 iMac with 10.7.3 Lion software.

Mar 26, 2012So as the title says when I boot up my iMac, on occasion, it seems to have the "Updating" Status bar, then the mac boots normally, then the sound is disabled. As I said though this dose not happed all the time but when it dose the only way to fix it is by rebooting the iMac once again. OS X V10.7 Lion :: IMac Sound Doesn't Work After Upgrade?
Jun 27, 2012I have an Intel-based iMac which I just upgraded two days ago from Snow Leopard to Lion (10.7.4). I did an upgrade-in-place (as opposed to a fresh install) and did a software update after the installation completed. I have my computer scheduled to wake up each morning at 6 a.m. When it wakes up, the sound doesn't work unless I reboot the computer. If I open up iTunes and try to play music, there is no sound (unless I reboot). The song progress meter at the top of iTunes won't even move when I hit the play button. When I open the Sound preference and click the Output tab, I do see the Headphone port and the output volume is set all the way up.

Dec 2, 2009Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.

Oct 6, 2009I can't get any audio whether I'm in Itunes, online, or my own videos. No matter what application I'm in I can not hear anything. I've checked my settings and my volume is on and it is NOT muted.

Aug 19, 2010I know some people won't be able to resist calling this thread stupid, because it is. That being said, my HD in my new i7 is fairly loud, but it doesn't bother me in the least bit. In a strange kind of way, I actually like the sound of the HD, it reminds me a little of the sound of rain. Im I the only one?
(The dog whistle noise on the iMac I returned on the other hand drove me insane, I would have stabbed my pen through its yellow little face if that wouldn't have prevented apple from accepting it back)

Sep 20, 2009I'm having an issue where the sound is playing from the internal speakers and rather not the built in speakers. (The speakers that play the OS X DURRRR and Ear Breaking Memory Beeps) I've tried upgrading the Realtek Audio Drivers from the site and Snow Leopard CD to no success. Does anyone know how to fix this. It's not like this in Vista, but I can't play my games in Vista because I dun have enuff RAM.

As of right now, I have a headphone output going to the Red and White RCA analog to my surround sound input just like the ones here
The headphone male end is going into the very far left headphone jack of my iMac. I have a 5.1 surround sound system and I know that this isn't being used to it's full potential.
I am not fully sure on what to do with the Audio in / optical audio in port... If I connect a fiber optic cable to that into my digital input on my surround sound, is that all I need? (this?) No RCA plugins or anything....?
Also, I have read endlessly on the FireWave and I am not really sure what the point of that is...? I don't know how it comes into play with hooking up my surround sound system to my iMac.

IMac :: Restriction Symbol In Sound Box
Apr 18, 2010Occasionally I will turn on my IMac and I wont have any sound. When I try to turn up or down the sound, there is a restriction symbol in the sound box that pops up and nothing will happen. The old restart usually works. However, when I try to plug in headphones or an external audio cable, nothing changes. I still get sound out of the computer, and it works like there is nothing in the jack. All software is up to date, I reset PRAM and did the "unplug everything" drill. Still no change. When I did the unplug everything, its almost notorious for having the first problem of "no sound".
