Just installed Lion on my Early 2008 MacBook Pro. I am trying to setup iCloud Mail & Notes for the first time in the System Preferences. iCloud asks me to "Choose an email address." I already have a MobileMe address so I enter that. iCloud responds by saying that address is already taken. Of course it is, by ME! Whe won't it accept my email address?

If I am on iCloud, should my mailbox in MAIL say iCloud or MobileMe?

I have migrated my Mobileme data to iCloud because my iMac supports Lion. However, my wife's iMac, running Snow Leopard cannot be upgraded (if that's the right word) to Lion so cannot migrate. She currently has a .mac email only ID through Mobileme which is functioning OK but my question is, will she still be able to use it when Apple switches off Mobileme?

From what I can figure out, MobileMe stores my emails on the server. Does that mean I don't have a copy of my emails on my hard drive even though I check email using the Mail application on my MacBook Pro? Â In the sidebar of Mail I notice there's a section called "On My Mac" with a folder called "Local Backup" with a bunch (but not all) of the same folders that are under ".Mac Account". The most recent email in these folders is from 2010. I have no idea how this folder got there or if it's even needed.Am I obsessing over this for nothing? I feel like I should have a backup of my emails after reading that once I've migrated to iCloud, I'm cut off of MobileMe. I need to delete my MobileMe account from my iPhone before migrating to resolve an Address Book historical sync problem. That means the only copy of my emails will be on MobileMe which I won't be able to get to. Unless of course, Mail saves them somewhere on my hard drive. Â

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!Â
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.Â
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

After moving Mobile Me to iCloud, I am having 2 problems with the Mail application. On my Laptop running Lion, I'm not able to send email using my ".me" account. Error message says "connections to the server 'p99-smtp.mail.me.com' on the default ports timed out." The incoming mail server is now showing "p99-imap.mail.me.com." I do appear to be receiving mail to my .me accounts. On my Power PC G5 (running OSX 10.5.8) I am no longer receiving mail from my .me account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a forwarding email address that I give out to everyone as my main address - it saves hassle with different addresses, changing of ISP and instances such as the Apple shift to Mobile Me. However, I want to set-up MobileMe so that my forwarding address appears as the from address in emails. How can I do this? I've tried to add it as one of the addresses in the Mail app Preferences pane but this seems to create a problem with sending.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm using this software with my MobileME account, and an error occurs when I send mails with attachments. I'll give an example: Imagine that I want to send an e-mail to someone, and I want to attach a 10MB file to it. When I do that, the e-mail takes quite some time to send, because I'm not sending 10MB but... 3 or 4 times more!
Exactly. This happens over and over again. The e-mail sent is always 3 or 4 times larger than the original e-mail. I've checked - and re-checked this - several times using iStat widget. If I send a 10MB e-mail, the total upload is going to be over 30MB!
I'm having problems with mac mail. It won't accept my icloud/ mobileme password. So I'm unable to get my mac email on mail... It was working fine for years, no suddenly not...Â
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed the 10.6.2 2 days ago, shut down the computer, and let it rest overnight. When I booted, I had no immediate problems. Then that whole mobileme outage thing occured. No biggie, everything functioned fine. After the outage, I had booted Mail to find that only my mobileme account was added. I tried a mail/accounts sync, but nothing happened. I re-added each other account (gmail and college) with no problems, even all the mail was still stored that had been downloaded.
Now I'm finding some little tweaks are off. My "unread messages are bold" was unticked, despite never having altered these settings. Signatures for the accounts were 50/50, with some being removed and some remaining. Anyone else experiencing weird things like this since the combo of the 10.6.2 update and mobileme? The only additional change that happened on my computer was installing Parallels 5 upgrade.
Will I still be able to use the Mail program w/my .mac email address after moving to iCloud? Will it still reflect the same moves btwn my iPhone and mail program after moving all this BS to iCloud?

I have an old pre-Intel G5 Mac desktop and want to keep using Mobile me Mail and Entourage because they work so well and I have been using them for 10 years. I cannot get the mail system to work having moved everything else to iCloud. Followed the instructions but it just does not work and the mail.mac.com server will not accept my password. Any ideas?

I use IMAP accounts and not exactly sure why I should use iCloud for Mail. I don't need my messages sync'd since IMAP already handles that. Will iCloud Mail disregard my messages in this case?Â
I have two Macs and multiple iOS devices. I've been trying to understand the benefits of using Mail in iCloud. It seems it will push rules, smart mailboxes and folders to all your devices. That would be a nice benefit. I'm just concerned what it will do to my messages. I have local folders that are listed "ON MY MAC" on my Macbook Pro. Will those get pushed to my iMac and vice versa?
Emails I send on my iPad are not showing up in the Sent items box in Mail on my iMac at home.I am using Gmail, and they of course show up in the Sent items mailbox there in Mail.

I set up my icloud account at work using Mail because I was tired of writing personal messages from my iPhone. Initially I opted to not save any messages locally, since I prefer keeping my personal correspondence in the cloud and on my private devices. Unfortunately if I choose that option, then no messages are displayed in the inbox or sent folders. I am accustomed to the IMAP way of things, where Mail displays the server contents when online and in offline mode, no messages are displayed because they aren't saved locally. Is this possible with iCloud?

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.
It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.
Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.
If I use the iCloud suggested settings as per: ENTERING iCLOUD MAIL SERVER SETTINGS IN SNOW LEOPARD
as per Roger Wilmut's suggestions -[URL]...will all my other incoming and outgoing mail accounts still work as usual?Â
